SUMMARY:The Wissahickon in November (Gerry's Hike)
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at W Johnson Street between Wissahickon Avenue and Lincoln Drive (view in Google Maps)\nJoin Trail Ambassadors Debbie Hoellein\, Jim McClory\, Brenda Rich\, and Patty Davis as we do our yearly hike to the Henry Houston statue in Gerry Schweiger’s memory. Gerry was a beloved trail ambassador and Debbie was lucky to have him as her mentor. He led a series of hikes called “Trails Less Travelled” that took us all over the park. This hike is similar to one he used to lead. It travels through the Houston Ramble on the way to the statue\, and Historic RittenhouseTown and Thomas Mansion on the way back.\nGerry thought the Houston statue was the forgotten statue of Wissahickon Valley Park. He would be happy to see that thanks to the Germantown Neighborhood Connection\, it now is less forgotten. We’ll be seeing the results of Phase 1 of the project.\nOur route is a little less than 3 miles long and some of the trails are rocky. Children 12 years of age and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult\, but\, please\, no dogs except for service animals.\nCheck out a preview of our hike on Komoot below! \nDistance: 3 miles\nAudience: Ages 12+\nParking and Transit: If you’re driving\, there should be plenty of free street parking along W Johnson Street. Remember to never leave valuables behind in your car. If you’re taking transit\, our location is serviced by the 53 and 65 buses. See map for details.\nRestrooms: There will not be restroom access during our hike.\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain\, extreme heat\, muddy conditions\, or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.\nRegister below!
