SUMMARY:Philadelphia’s Green Transformation: From Research to Action
DESCRIPTION:Join the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society & Penn IUR to learn of community-driven efforts to make Philadelphia cleaner\, greener\, and safer.\n\n\nPlease join the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) and Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) for a discussion of the community-driven efforts to make Philadelphia cleaner\, greener\, and safer for all. \nPanelists will address how non-profit leaders\, community organizers\, and researchers work to improve and maintain Philadelphia’s diverse public and underutilized spaces. PHS’s long running LandCare program has been the subject of interdisciplinary research at Penn for almost 15 years — looking at its impact on real estate values\, crime\, safety\, health\, and well-being. \nThrough PHS’s programs like LandCare\, Tree Tenders\, and Community Gardens\, it equips communities with resources while also serving as a trusted partner to expand green infrastructure and influence public policy across the region. \nPanelists will also explore opportunities in research and practice to deepen the impact of programs such as these. \nPanelists include: \n\nCharles Branas\, Chair and Gelman Professor of Epidemiology\, Columbia University\n\n\nShane Jensen\, Professor of Statistics and Data Science\, The Wharton School\, University of Pennsylvania\n\n\nMatt Rader\, President\, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society\n\n\nTony Sorrentino\, Incoming Chief Executive Officer\, Fairmount Park Conservancy\n\n\nJames Wright\, Project Manager for Strategy and Operations\, Center for Health Justice\, Perelman School of Medicine\, University of Pennsylvania\n\nModerated by: \nSusan Wachter\, Co-Director\, Penn Institute for Urban Research; Albert Sussman Professor of Real Estate\, Professor of Finance\, The Wharton School\, University of Pennsylvania \nPhoto courtesy of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society \nNOTICE OF PHOTOGRAPHY\, FILMING\, OR RECORDING AT PENN IUR \nOn any day\, the Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) may have a photographer or videographer in the building\, or otherwise be recording or transmitting audio and/or video. You may choose to absent yourself from any area that is being filmed\, photographed\, or recorded. \nPlease note that any photographs\, videos\, and recordings belong to Penn IUR and that no one will receive any payment or other compensation for an appearance in any video\, photograph\, or recording.
