SUMMARY:The Translingual Remix: A Practical Literary Translation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:An in-person workshop with Transversal\, co-sponsored by Blue Stoop and The Head & The Hand. \nTranslating literature into another language builds bridges and amplifies voices through shared stories. It’s also a challenging but highly rewarding creative practice that draws on skills like knowledge of multiple languages and cultures\, close reading and research\, and problem solving. In this workshop\, Emily Hunsberger (Mount Airy-based literary translator and member of Transversal\, Philadelphia’s literary translation collective) will help pull back the curtain on different approaches to the translation process\, guide participants through a practical exercise with literary texts\, facilitate an affirming conversation to reflect on the experience\, and suggest next steps for developing a personal translation practice. \nThis workshop is designed for folks with 1) an interest in creative writing and translation and 2) proficiency in English and at least one other language. No experience in literary translation is required\, and texts for the translation exercise will be provided by the facilitator. Participants will have the option to translate a text into English or into their other language(s). \nSpace is limited. All ticket proceeds benefit Blue Stoop and The Head & The Hand.

SUMMARY:Morning Story Time with Ms. AJ at H&H Books
DESCRIPTION:Ms. AJ will lead us in story and song throughout the year–along with some special guests–as we explore a new theme each month. Expect percussive instruments to share and play provided by our friends at Unless Kids\, a couple of great reads\, and a song circle\, in our gender-inclusive space where all identities are encouraged to thrive. \nOur Thursday afternoon story times are geared towards kiddos 12 months and younger\, while our Sunday morning story times are for all ages. \nOn 3/30\, we will celebrate Women’s History Month and read Beauty Woke by Nonieqa Ramos\, Broken Butterfly Wings by Raquel M. Ortiz\, and Little Leaders: Visionary Women Around the World by Vashti Harrison. \nDuring story time\, we will be accepting pre-loved toys from attendees to give to our pals at Unless Kids\, who kindly provided our instruments. \nAdrienne Barnett (aka Ms. AJ) is a child educator and musical theatre advocate who began her teaching career in 2007. Come share her passion for all things musical and literary at H&H!
