SUMMARY:Morning in the Meadows with Lisa Kleiman and Susie Gettes
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Northwestern Avenue and Forbidden Drive (200 W Northwestern Ave)\nParking: There should be plenty of parking in the nearby Northwestern Ave Parking Area. See map for details.\nBathrooms: Porta potties at Northwestern Ave\nDistance: 7 miles\, with options to shorten it\nDifficulty Level: Moderate (some inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nAudience: Ages 18+\nThe Wissahickon is known for its hilly\, rocky terrain\, but it is also the home of three meadows! Join Trail Ambassadors Lisa Kleiman and Susie Gettes for an early 7-8 mile hike linking these three meadows as we enjoy the morning light\, the sounds of the birds\, and the varying terrain.\nThe hike will be at a moderate pace over hilly rocky trails which may be muddy. Restroom stop 1/4 of a mile into the hike. For those interested in a shorter distance\, hikers will have the option to return to the starting point after looping through each meadow. Those interested in additional exploration will also have the option to explore one of the feeder creeks in the park\, adding 1.5 miles to the total distance. This will primarily be an exploration/fitness hike\, but we will stop briefly to discuss the history of each meadow.\nRegistration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome.\nFor more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.\nRegister below!

See map for details.\nRestrooms: There will be access to porta potties at Northwestern Ave.\nWhy is the Andorra section of the park such a beloved area? Because it has it all! Trail Ambassadors Margaret Kinnevy and Trish Fries have planned a mini-adventure that explores a little bit of everything.\nAs we saunter up to where the forest meets the meadow\, we will pause to notice features of the trees\, plants\, and waterways that are hidden in plain sight. We will pass by much that is not hidden\, such as an environmental center\, a food forest\, a pollinator garden\, historic ruins\, and more. There will be time to have your questions answered about the built and natural environment\, and the people who have lived\, worked\, and played in this area.\nRegistration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. SUMMARY:WPA in the Wissahickon Part 1 with Debra Brackett\, Peter Curatolo\, and Doug Gibson
DESCRIPTION:WPA in the Wissahickon: Wonderful Park Assets or Worrisome Park Additions – Part I\nMeeting at Northwestern Avenue and Forbidden Drive (see map here)\n*This hike was initially scheduled for February 22. If you were signed up already\, you do not need to register again.*\nEver walk past a structure in the Wissahickon and observe a cornerstone with the initials WPA and a date? We’ll share highlights\, some history about the buildings\, and the controversy about the scope of work in the Wissahickon. This hike is part one of a series and will focus on the northern section of the park. The route includes some steep and rocky ascents and descents and is about 5 miles long. Children 12 years of age and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult; no dogs except for service animals\, please.\nDistance: 5 miles\nDifficulty Level: Difficult (many inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nAudience: Ages 12+\nParking: There should be plenty of parking in the nearby Northwestern Ave Parking Area.\nRestrooms: There will not be bathrooms available for use during our hike.\nRegistration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery.
