SUMMARY:Bells Mill Road Clean-Up for Earth Day and MLK Day
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Bells Mill Road and Forbidden Drive\nParking: Bell’s Mill Road will be closed starting at 7:00 am\, so please plan where you’ll park ahead of time! There is plenty of neighborhood street parking near the Manatawna and Northwestern Trailheads\, but any parking location will require hiking into our meeting location. See map for details.\nBathrooms: There should be porta-potties on Forbidden Drive and Bells Mill Road.\nJoin Friends of the Wissahickon in celebrating BOTH Earth Day and Martin Luther King Jr Day (after having to cancel our service day in January) with a special large-scale clean-up along Bells Mill Road! For this effort\, the Road will be closed from Lykens Lane to Germantown Avenue\, providing volunteers with safe access to a heavily traveled road. By removing litter along the roadway\, we can prevent trash from washing into the creek during rainstorms and help protect habitat and stream health.\nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities:\n• Litter clean-up\n• Hiking up to 2 miles (we’ll be traveling up and down Bells Mill Road picking up trash)\nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants\, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email one business day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people\, please reach out to us first. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.\nRegister Below!
