DESCRIPTION:During school half-days\, we offer afternoon\, hands-on\, project-based design workshop that allows students to be designers in a studio.\n\n\nAvailable on select School District of Philadelphia (SDP) half-days and full-days\, we offer a hands-on\, project-based design workshop that allows students to be designers in a studio. Students will learn the design process through activities and exercises to design and build a project individually and/or as a team. Each studio introduces how we see design everywhere and projects based on one or more design disciplines. \n \n\n$45 School Age Studio for Morning (9:30AM-12:30PM) or Half-Day (12:30-3:30pm): Includes a snack with a pick-up option available to Moffet Elementary School\n$20 Extended Care 3:30-5:30pm: All attendees encouraged to bring a snack during Extended Care\nEach studio has a maximum of 10 students\nInstructors are design professionals of varied disciplines\nAll materials included\n\n \nFALL 2025 DATES\n***Please note\, as of October 1st our studio will be located at 1714 N. Erike uses (her twenty years) of training and experience in architecture to design and develop initiatives\, public programs\, and experiences for clients and the design curious. \nDesign Discipline/Interest: architecture\, landscape architecture\, sustainable design\, movement \n \nLOCATION DESCRIPTION\nAccessibility: \n\nThere is a zero-step entrance into the building with steps and chair lift to bring you to our floor.\nUpon reaching our floor it ramps down to our studio.\nThe building was an existing building\, in our space there is small 1.5- to 3-inch lip between the two areas of our space that has been highlighted with purple light to see the change in levels.\nOne accessible bathroom are available on our floor.\nPlease reach out with other specific accessibility questions or requests and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.\n\nAvailable on-site: \n\nTwo bathrooms on our level\, with one (1) accessible bathroom.\nThere is a communal kitchen with a sink\, microwave\, and a refrigerator.\nWater fountain and refilling station.\n\nTravel details: \nSilk Screen Studios is located in the Norris Square neighborhood in North Philadelphia/Olde Kensington area of Philadelphia. \n\nWalking: Cross-streets of Hancock and Berks.\n\n\nBiking:\nBring your bike into the building\, or use the bike room is in the loading dock area along Hancock Street\nIndego Bike Stations available at 2nd & Norris Sts (2 blocks away)\, Front & Berks Sts/Berks MFL (3 blocks away)\nAccessible via SEPTA:\nBerks stop on the Market-Frankford Line (3 blocks away)\nBus Route: 3 on Berks Street\, 57 on N. Take a closer look…\n\n\nWe’ll explore the design principle of patterns through textile design\, and taking a closer look into our world. \n \nABOUT DESIGNER(S)\nEmily “Birdie” Busch is a working sonic and visual artist that strives to reveal things in a way that doesn’t seem like a dissertation but rather a keyhole and places a lot of intention on distilling the complexities of our stories down to core truths via the paths of art and song. She records and performs original music in tandem with making multimedia art\, with a particular fondness for everyday Philadelphians and the neighborhoods they call home. Sometimes the two are intertwined or one influences the other. She come from a lineage of Polish immigrants that settled in Camden\, NJ in the latter 19th century\, and a lot of her work is informed by her love of the folk art of her own ancestry\, as well as collage and pattern work. \nErike De Veyra\, designer\, project manager\, and founder/head coach of Design Gym\, demystifying design to designers of all ages and levels through tools\, activities\, workshops\, experiences\, and providing expertise to increase access and representation in the design industry.
