SUMMARY:Indigo Workshop: Dye Your Own Durag!
DESCRIPTION:A practice of resist & remembrance—learn indigo dye techniques to customize your own durag or headwrap rooted in Black resistance and care.\n\n\nThis workshop is an invitation to gather and remember. \nIndigo has always been more than a color. Across Africa and the Black diaspora\, indigo—blue gold—has held stories of beauty\, labor\, survival\, and resistance. \nIn this hands-on workshop\, guests will learn beginner-friendly indigo dye resist techniques while customizing a durag or headwrap. \nDurags and headwraps carry deep cultural memory. In Black history\, head coverings have been tools of protection\, identity\, resistance\, and self-expression—from African spiritual traditions\, through enslavement and survival\, to contemporary expressions of pride and care. In Afrocentric spiritual traditions\, the head is sacred—the seat of consciousness\, intuition\, and divine connection. Covering the head has long been a way to preserve energy\, honor ancestors\, and move through the world with intention. \nParticipants may bring their own durag or headwrap to dye\, or select a ticket tier that includes a headwrap or hand-crafted durag provided. \nThis workshop is intentionally held as a space for people of African descent and ancestry—not as exclusion\, but as care. A space where shared lineage allows for ease\, safety\, and cultural continuity. This gathering is an offering for intentional\, collective remembrance\, and creative practice rooted in traditions that preserve memory through doing. \nWhat to Expect\n\nIntroduction to the cultural and spiritual history of indigo\nBeginner-friendly indigo resist dye techniques\nHands-on dyeing experience\nA finished\, wearable piece infused with intention\n\n\nThis experience blends art\, history\, and ritual—leaving you with a custom\, unique\, wearable piece of art! No prior dyeing experience is necessary. Just come as you are!
