SUMMARY:AWE: A Watershed Experience in Mt. Airy with Lisa Kleiman and Margaret Kinnevy
DESCRIPTION:Meet at Carpenter’s Woods Trailhead Kiosk on Greene Street & North Mt. Pleasant Road\nOn this set of two walks\, we will explore waterways in Mt. Airy that are hidden in plain sight. Before embarking on this steady\, silent\, slow amble to the Wissahickon Creek\, you will be introduced to the terrain\, how it sheds water\, and how this action safeguards our drinking water.\nOver the Carpenter Run and through the woods we will go\, visiting varied surprise locations as we walk to Kitchens Lane Bridge\, where we will take in spectacular views of the Wissahickon gorge. Before and after the walk\, your guides will answer questions on how this watershed ecosystem matters to the greater region far and wide.\nThis walk will repeat at this location on May 9th\, allowing us to see the woodland before and after its emergence into spring. While the distance and elevation experienced on this hike are not difficult\, it’s important to be prepared with footwear appropriate for roots\, rocks\, dirt and possibly mud. Dress in layers for the weather\, and bring along water and snacks for one or two hours in the woods. Duration will be approximately 2 – 2 1/2 hours.\nDistance:~ 2 miles\nLevel: Moderate (some inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome.
