SUMMARY:Family-Friendly Hike with FOW and Hike+Heal
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Blue Bell Hill Park\nWe’ve learned so much from our Wellness Consultant\, Brandi Aulston\, especially that healing and wellness aren’t linear; it’s a continued investment in ourselves. We’re happy to invite you to a family-friendly hike led by Brandi and her organization\, Hike+Heal\, where you can focus on you and your loved ones’ wellness. This hike is a great chance to connect with the outdoors and your community! Together we’ll engage in interactive exercises\, reflect and practice mindfulness\, and experience the beauty of the Wissahickon.\nThis hike will be set closer to dusk so we can have a little lightening bug capturing activity! Please bring your own jars/kits if you’d like to participate.\nBrandi Aulston\, MHA/MHE and founder of Hike+Heal Wellness LLC\, is a wellness entrepreneur extremely dedicated to women’s overall wellness to help eliminate health disparities and increase diversity in the outdoor space for inner city women of color. Since 2019\, Hike+Heal has created a safe space for strong community connections for people who desire to prioritize their self-care while connecting together in a powerful and healing way in nature. Hike+Heal was one of nineteen winners of the 2021 Pennsylvania COVID-19 Champion awarded by the Pennsylvania Parks & Forests Foundation.\nPlease note: this event will be recorded. Please fill out the photo waiver here.\nIn order to attend participants must print and sign this waiver from Hike+Heal. Please bring it\, completed\, to the event. SUMMARY:Watershed Wellness Walk at Blue Bell Hill with Margaret Kinnevy and Lisa Kleiman
DESCRIPTION:Meet at Blue Bell Hill Parking Lot\nIf you visited the Blue Bell Hill in March\, return with us in April to delight in the exuberance of spring. Evident in the woodlands will be the spring ephemeral flowers and vernal streams. Learn of the role they play in the ecosystem of the watershed.\nDuring our walk\, we will be guided into slowness\, stillness\, and quietude to better receive what is happening in the life around us and within.\nOur path will take us on trails of varied terrain\, connecting with nature through slow paced observation and sensory awareness intended to increase our appreciation of the environment and enhance our connection to nature.\nDuring the first hour of the walk\, we will explore deliberately\, covering only about 1 mile in distance. We will approach the area slowly and quietly\, tuning in to the environment with our senses; invitations and prompts will be offered to heighten our awareness of all the forest has to offer us.\nAfter we return to our starting point\, those interested can continue the experience with a more traditionally paced hike on different trails on the hill allowing for observation and appreciation of another landscape and adding another hour and about 1.5 – 2 miles of distance.\nWhile the distance and elevation experienced on this hike are not difficult\, it’s important to be prepared with footwear appropriate for roots\, rocks\, dirt and possibly mud. Dress in layers for the weather\, and bring along water and snacks for one or two hours in the woods.\n \nDistance: ~1.5- 2 miles\nLevel: Moderate (some inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. \nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.\nRegister Below!
