SUMMARY:Vegan Soul Food Cooking Demo
DESCRIPTION:https://www.meetup.com/blackphiladelphia/events/305903628/?utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=share-btn_savedevents_share_modal&utm_source=lin\n\n\nThe origins of soul food emerged out of struggle and survival mechanisms of enslaved African people in the Deep South. They were given scraps of animals\, such as chicken feet and heads\, pigs snouts and intestines\, oxtails\, and other leftover organs\, low in quality and nutritional value. Using these\, they refined African traditional recipes into dishes that have become staples in American food culture. \nTo commemorate Black History Month\, we will be paying homage to African American soul food traditions in a budget friendly\, veganized way\, \n \nMenu: \nChicken (oyster mushrooms)Mac-n-cheezeKale Greens \nAll gluten-free\, soy-free\, nut-free \n \nFebruary is Black History Month and Vegan Cuisine Month\, so bring your family and friends to this celebration of Black culture and history with great discussions and a spectacular taste testing session! \nBio:Vegan Chef Taslim “Taz” Patterson witnessed health issues in her family\, so in 2016 she did a personal 30-day vegan challenge\, which resulted in her losing 20 pounds. But Taz was just guessing what to do. \nTaz started to veganize her favorite foods for her friends\, family\, and community; she would mimic the smell and texture of foods. Her passion for making delicious vegan foods turned into her business Royal T Vegans in 2017\, and she went completely vegan for good. She operated out of a ghost kitchen and began to vend\, meal prep\, and host events. \nTaz partnered with Philly radio station Power 99 providing food for their vegan week at the end of 2019. She has hosted several events (live demos)\, sold hundreds of platters\, and donated food to organizations. Taz’s passion is fueled by making food affordable and healthy for people. Look for what she does next @RoyalTVegans.
