DESCRIPTION:Feeling a chill already this winter? The perfect way to warm up is with a hot bowl of Swedish pea soup at the American Swedish Historical Museum! ASHM continues our tradition of the annual Pea Soup Dinner hosted by The Pea Soup Committee on Saturday\, January 31\, 2026 at 5:00 pm. \nÄrtsoppa\, or Swedish yellow pea soup\, is the traditional Thursday night supper in Sweden during the winter that dates back to the medieval period. In more modern times\, pea soup is served regularly during the winter in restaurants and homes and is a common Thursday school lunch in Sweden\, often accompanied by pancakes. ASHM’s Pea Soup Dinner is served with sharp Swedish cheese\, mustard\, and bread\, with Swedish pancakes and coffee for dessert. There will also be a cash bar. Gather with friends and family to enjoy time together at the Museum. Don’t miss out on this delightful meal! \nTickets are $30 for museum members and $35 for non-members. Reservations are necessary as seating is limited. Registration ends January 26\, 2026.

Julbord\, or “Christmas Table\,” is a Scandinavian feast where a wide variety of foods are served buffet style\, or\, as Swedes say\, smörgåsbord. \nA traditional Julbord takes place on December 24th and is one of the highlights of the Christmas celebration for Swedes. Some menu items on a traditional Julbord are remnants of Viking spreads from mid-winter solstice celebrations\, while other originate from the turn of the twentieth century in Sweden. A modern favorite dish\, meatballs\, was only added in the 1970s! Regardless of the food served\, the most important and consistent element of Julbord is gathering with loved ones and sharing a meal during this special holiday season! \nTry out this incredible Swedish tradition for yourself at ASHM’s annual Julbord Dinner. The spread includes Swedish favorites like Christmas ham\, several types of herring\, meatballs\, salads\, and bread. A selection of ASHM Christmas Market craft vendors will also be open from 5-7 pm\, so you can shop while you enjoy a drink and some hors d’oeuvres before dinner. Eventually\, the government prohibited the catching of crayfish except for a short time in late summer. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of the ASHM Balcony exhibit Across the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway to America. \nEnjoy traditional Norwegian recipes\, a special kransekake from MANDEL bakery\, and the opportunity to meet Susan Satkowski\, Honorary Consul General to Norway. \nAcross the Atlantic explores the trans-Atlantic journey of the first organized group of Norwegian immigrants to sail to the United States. Traveling aboard a small sloop called the Restauration\, the 1825 voyage took three months and challenged the strength and resolve of its passengers and crew from the very onset of the journey. The exhibit highlights the Sloopers’ experiences on the open sea and their eventual arrival in the United States. \nAcross the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway is part of Crossings Bicentennial in North America. The exhibit is made possible with support from the Sons of Norway Foundation. What\, you have never tasted a crayfish or decorated your outdoor space with red crustaceans and paper lanterns? Well\, the Swedes would say you are missing out on one of the most enjoyable traditions of summer: Crayfish Party!\nPlease join us on the Museum’s stunning terrace overlooking FDR Park for a crayfish dinner on Friday\, August 16th to experience our take on the Swedish crayfish tradition! Enjoy a buffet of crayfish and Swedish meatballs\, along side potatoes\, cheese pie\, cucumber and beet salads\, desserts\, and a glass of aquavit\, all outside under our beautifully decorated tent.\n$60 for ASHM and SACC Philadelphia members and $70 for non-members. Register online by August 12th.

DESCRIPTION:Spend a gorgeous summer evening at the American Swedish Historical Museum in FDR Park enjoying regional and international beers alongside Swedish-inspired eats! \nSmörgåsBeer party-goers can play trivia and lawn games as well as a traditional Swedish “tipsrunda” or quiz walk through the museum. There is no better way to pass a summer evening than tasting new beers\, ciders and more\, challenging friends to unique games\, and dancing the night away to great music. Amazing prizes will also be raffled throughout the evening to support the museum. \nTickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. A discounted designated driver price of $15 is also available. Attendees must be 21+ to participate in the alcohol sampling and must present a valid ID. This event is designed for an adult audience and is recommended for participants 21 and over.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on June 22nd for ASHM’s Midsommarfest! Midsommar is one of Sweden’s most important holidays and a day to rejoice in the coming of summer at a time when daylight is at its longest. Following tradition\, Swedes decorate with greenery and flowers as they sing songs and dance around the maypole\, celebrating the start of the summer with family and friends. \nHoist the maypole at ASHM’s Midsommarfest this year! The event is fun for the entire family with traditional Swedish food\, live music provided by the Last Chance duo\, and games and activities. Flower crowns and refreshments will be available for purchase. Check out our Swedish used book sale and Mormor’s Attic Shop\, which is filled with second-hand treasures. Tickets are $8 for ASHM Museum Members\, $10 for nonmembers\, $5 for children 5-12\, and children under 5 are free.
