SUMMARY:Upcycled Handmade Books at Abyssinia
DESCRIPTION:Using old books and specialty paper we’ll sew our own handmade books!\n\n\nJoin us for an evening up taking apart and putting back together! We will repurpose old books\, cereal boxes\, and cardboard combined with specialty dyed papers to create our own books. You can bring your own paper if you’d like to customize your book into a lined notebook\, or if you have pieces that you want to incorperate into your book. Our finished books will act more as sketchbooks or artist books (unless you want to add the lines yourself?!) \nThe logistics: This is a low cost workshop that will offer supplies on a first come first served basis. Everyone signing up will have the opportunity to make their own book and we will have enough supplies for everyone. If you know you would like to repurpose an old book you can either bring your own hardcover book to take apart or you can arrive ON TIME to receive one of the first 10 that we have. Or if you’re going for more of a back pocket\, travel\, foldable situation then using cardboard and cardstock will be best for you! \nMost people will not finish their book with us but we will send you home with the supplies (everything but a sewing needle!) and instructions to hand sew your book yourself. If you arrive on time and get right to assembling your book you will absolutely finish with time to hang out and decorate a couple pages together. \nThis is a loose book making session that has a lot of room for personalization! Shown in the images are two different books made with this same style by two different artists. Show up with an open mind\, maybe some random paper you find in the recycling\, and some creative ideas and you’ll end up with something super FUN! \nCash only for the bar but they do have an ATM on site. \nOrganized by The Craft Coven\, this event is part of a community oriented series of creative enrichment projects focused on affordability for all. For more information on the group’s missions and to get involved more widely check out https://www.supplychest.org and become a Member for all the inside opportunities and classes. \nAccessibility: This location is unfortunately only accessible by stairs. The event will be held on the second floor. Walk into the side entrance\, go directly up the steps\, and the door all the way to the left is where we will be. This event is held at a bar. It is not in the bar but there will be drinking present. Anyone age 16+up is welcome to participate with the craft project and will be able to access the event without walking into or through the bar.
