DESCRIPTION:A fun engaging night of trivia quiz exploring Philly veg history plus free vegan snacks!\n\n\nWho doesn’t love a night of TRIVIA?! \nWe will be hosting our first Vegan Trivia Night at the American Vegan Center to celebrate Veg History Day on Jan 31st! \nGrab your witty friends\, family and neighbors in a night of fun\, facts and food snacks! \nAdmission is free to the event\, which begins at 6 pm\, but all players must register in advance (see below). Teams of up to four people are encouraged\, though you can also play as a solo team. \nQuestions will cover food\, animals\, the environment\, and Philadelphia’s rich veg history. The initial questions will be easy but will increase in difficulty over the course of four rounds of play. In addition to several smaller prizes\, one winning team will take home the grand prize for the evening: Dinner for four at one of Philadelphia’s best vegan restaurants\, Primary Plant Based! \nThis is a great opportunity to hang out with vegan and non-vegan colleagues\, to test your own knowledge and maybe learn a fun fact or two in the process. Cooking tips and taste testing!\n\n\nThere has been a longstanding debate about “the best jollof rice” among West Africans. This friendly dispute centers the richness of West African food and cultural pride. \nJollof rice is something of a national dish in Nigeria\, Senegal\, and Ghana. In the rest of West Africa\, Jollof rice is the main sought-out dish at every party and event. What makes Jollof rice so unique is its multitude of flavors and distinct versions from each country. No Jollof rice is the same in West Africa! The recipe is always open to interpretation. \nWatta Kesselly\, a native of Liberia in West Africa\, will demonstrate her veganized version of this popular dish that she so enjoyed growing up. Attendees will learn cooking tips and key vegan seasonings that are bound to replicate the cultural aesthetics of Jollof Rice. The Jollof will be paired with another West African staple food\, plantains! \nThis is a must-attend cultural experience. Come share the love of Jollof! \n \nWatta Kesselly began with American Vegan Society (AVS) as a food demonstrator at the American Vegan Center (AVC) in 2022 and was invited to join AVS staff as AVC Events and Cuisine Manager in Summer 2023. Watta is a food enthusiast who brings a wealth of knowledge about behavioral health\, artistic creations\, and teaching. Watta has a master’s degree in education from Temple University.

As with her well-received 2022 ‘Holiday Survival Guide” class\, Pirello will walk attendees through the preparation of delicious plant-based foods that tickle the taste buds without compromising healthfulness.\n \n \nAs always\, Christina will spotlight seasonal choices that work well for winter in general and/or your own holiday gatherings. She’ll be demonstrating the making of Winter Squash Risotto\, Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad\, and Maple Pistachio Bundt Cake. Samples of each dish will be provided to in-person attendees.
