Please inquire at team@yjroutdoors.com \n \nRolling Rangers MTB Skills Progression Camp is a week-long ride + trailcraft experience for ages 12–16 who already ride confidently and are ready to level up—both on the bike and on the trails we all share. We start by sharpening core MTB fundamentals at speed and in real terrain: bike lean\, “peek & push” cornering\, front/rear wheel lifts\, ratcheting\, and clean line choice through loose and rough surfaces. From there\, riders progress into features and flow—log-overs\, small drops\, and controlled landings—building the skills that unlock bigger\, safer riding. \nAs the week ramps up\, we move into YJR Level 3 techniques and “ride readiness” so riders can handle advanced features with confidence and good judgment. Expect dedicated sessions for track-stands\, bunny hops\, and purposeful body movement (like the lunge-drop) that translate directly to larger drops\, jumping progression (singles → tabletops → doubles/gaps\, as appropriate)\, and optional advanced trail elements like wall rides (only when conditions\, coaching\, and readiness align). \nBut this camp isn’t just “ride harder.” It’s also trail building and maintenance in a real way. Campers learn how trails are designed\, built\, and sustained—and then they do the work: using trail tools\, shaping tread\, managing drainage\, improving durability\, and leaving the park better than we found it. We weave in bike systems and field skills so riders can be more independent: derailleurs and chainrings\, quick-release/thru-axle basics\, dropper posts\, plus tube/tire systems\, air systems\, and a practical look at first aid and what belongs in a saddle bag. \nThe week blends coached riding\, feature sessions\, trail work blocks\, and “field lab” skill stations—finishing with an optional family ride or showcase lap that celebrates progression\, stewardship\, and earned confidence. \nLevel 2 focus (control + terrain + trail features) \n\nBike lean + “peek & push” cornering\nFront & rear wheel lift foundations → log-overs + light feature work\nRatcheting + timing for tech climbs and awkward terrain\nRiding loose/rough terrain\, small drops\, and roll-down options\nBike systems: derailleurs\, chainrings\, quick release et al\, dropper posts\n\nLevel 3 focus (advanced technique + readiness + progression) \n\nTrack-stands (balance/control) + bunny hops (feature clearance)\nLunge-drop mechanics for stability + bigger feature control\nRide Readiness: saddle bag contents\, tube/tire systems\, air systems\, first aid\nLarge drops + jump progression (singles\, tabletops\, doubles/gaps as appropriate)\n\n \nAbout YJR Outdoors / Yo! Just Ride / John Raisch \nJohn has over 20 years of professional business\, technology and entrepreneurship experience\, and over 10 years of youth adventure sports experience and volunteerism. \nJohn is an expert in both mountain biking and snowboarding instruction and riding\, with a notable dedication to teaching and fostering growth within these sports communities. His qualifications are a testament to his commitment and expertise in nurturing athletes across different age groups\, particularly focusing on the youth. \nCertifications \n\nUSA Cycling Level 3 Coach & Team Manager\nBICP Level 1 – Ride Guide and Fundamental Skills Instructor\nNICA Level 3 Coach License\nPICL Certified Coach Trainer\nWilderness First Aid certified\nCertified Bear Creek Snowboard Instructor\n\nAbout Rose Hammerman / Philadelphia Free Range \nUsing natural materials and developmental approaches to learning\, Philly Free-Range educates families and communities in group settings ranging from all ages and stages\, with a myriad of landscapes. Wanders in the wooded landscape will engage children’s senses to their natural space. Earth crafts will be threaded throughout the week\, utilizing materials from the landscape.

SUMMARY:Houston Playground June Learn to Ride Clinics
DESCRIPTION:1-hour Learn to Ride clinic for youth/adults. Bikes & helmets provided. Bring water\, dress for weather. Closed-toe shoes required.\n\n\nLearn to Ride Clinic\nThis 1-hour Learn to Ride clinic is designed for youth riders who are ready to build confidence\, balance\, and the basic skills needed to ride independently. \nYJR Outdoors provides bikes and helmets for participants\, or riders may bring their own bike if preferred. Our instructors use a calm\, step-by-step approach that breaks learning to ride into small\, manageable skills. The goal is to help each rider feel safe\, supported\, and successful — whether they are brand new to biking or almost ready to pedal on their own. \nWhat We’ll Cover\nHelmet Fit and Safety \nWe’ll begin with a simple safety check focused on helmet fit and comfort. Riders will learn why the buckle matters\, how the straps should sit around the ears and under the chin\, and how the helmet should fit securely on the head without sliding forward\, backward\, or side to side. \nBike Handling Basics \nBefore pedaling\, riders will get comfortable moving and controlling the bike. We’ll practice walking beside the bike — “push it like a shopping cart!” — using two hands\, basic steering\, stopping\, and safely getting on and off the bike. \nBraking and Balance \nRiders will learn how to use the brakes as an “anchor” to stop and stabilize the bike. From there\, we’ll work on balance-bike-style movement\, including pushing\, skating\, and finding balance while gently “fluttering” the handlebars to stay upright. \nGliding Before Pedaling \nOnce riders are comfortable balancing and steering\, we’ll introduce short glides. Gliding helps riders feel what balance on a bike is supposed to feel like before adding the complexity of pedaling. \nGlide to Ride \nAs riders build confidence\, we’ll move toward the first pedals. This may include practicing a strong starting position\, keeping the head up\, using “squash bugs” pressure through the pedals\, and learning the tripod position for starting from a stationary position with one pedal in the power position. \nWhat to Bring / Wear\nPlease bring water and dress for the weather. Riders should wear comfortable clothing that allows them to move easily. \nClosed-toe shoes are required. No Crocs\, sandals\, flip-flops\, or open-toed shoes. \nBikes and helmets are included\, but participants may bring their own properly working bike and helmet if they prefer.
