DESCRIPTION:Learn to how to find awe and joy in our everyday life with Claudia Apfelbaum.\n\n\nExperiencing awe takes us out of our hum drum existence and brings us to a state \nof inner excitement and reverence. It is something most humans experience on \noccasion\, often when we are in nature and when we see something unexpected\, \nmind-blowing and uplifting. Two rainbows arching one above the other can bring \na feeling of awe to the beholder.  \nScientists are studying the effect of this universal experience and have identified \nthat many good social and personal-life improving “properties” follow the \nexperience of awe. They have found that experiencing awe increases our feelings \nof social connection\, reduces stress\, increases our sense of generosity\, and \nimproves our overall sense of well-being!  \nNot only is this exciting\, it is possible to create moments of awe in our daily lives. \n \nIn this workshop\, we will talk about our experiences of awe and learn ways to \nincrease our capacity to experience awe in our daily lives. This in person workshop will be hosted by Claudia at Weavers Way Germantown in the Outreach office on 6/7 from 11-1pm.

DESCRIPTION:Come join us to learn more about “Welcoming Homes” a non profit in our neighborhood matching with immigrant youths with host families.\n\n\nDistraught\, dismayed desperate to do something? Come to the Welcoming Homes Zoom workshop to learn how to house or assist single\, young adult\, asylum seekers. “Welcoming Homes” matches refugee and asylum-seeking young adults\, living without family or a safety net\, with safe homes and caring families. Our families have room in their homes and in their hearts to provide a residential environment with opportunities for basic human needs met in a restorative atmosphere. \nCould yours be one of the region’s Welcoming Homes? Even if you don’t think you can take someone in your home\, there are other ways you can help. This session that will be hosted on 3/26 from 6:30-7:30pm. You will receive a zoom link to attend the workshop after your registration. \nMindy Maslin and Sidney Ozer\, a Germantown couple\, hosted 2 young adult immigrants long-term. They realized this homestay experience benefited both the guests\, and them\, the hosting family. Recognizing that the Philadelphia region has many young adult immigrants in need of homes and families as well as a likely population of potential families\, Mindy and Sid started Welcoming Homes.
