SUMMARY:Start Patternmaking: Draft your own Personal Sloper (Plus-Size Exclusive)
DESCRIPTION:Drape and draft a basic bodice\, skirt\, sleeve\, and pant pattern block to fit your own body. This class is exclusively for plus-size sewists.\n\n\n*PLEASE NOTE: This workshop section is being offered exclusively for members of the plus-size community\, because patternmaking is a body-conscious process and it has been my dream (as a petite-plus person myself) to offer a space where other plus-size sewists can work together to make patterns for our bodies without judgment. If you typically wear a size XL or above\, this is for you! If not\, please register for the other section for all bodies. The course is open to folks of all genders 18+.* \n \nCurious about drafting your own sewing patterns? The best place to start is by creating a sloper\, which is a set of basic block patterns that can be used as the foundation for infinite design variations. \n \nIn this weekend intensive course\, professional patternmaker Ruby Gertz will guide students through her hybrid method of sloper development that combines flat patternmaking with draping in muslin for the fastest results and most optimal fit. \n \nThis class meets over one weekend\, in person\, on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-2:30pm. The course will run with a minimum of 4 students\, and is capped at 8 students. \n \n$250 workshop fee includes both days\, AND materials. Please bring a bagged lunch. You will want to wear or bring clothing to change into that is form-fitting for best results with measurement taking and draping on the body. \n \nIt is recommended that you have basic to intermediate sewing skills and a basic understanding of sewing patterns before taking this class. \n \nUnfortunately\, the studio is in the basement level of the building and not wheelchair accessible (though I am keeping my eyes open for a space that is fully accessible for future workshops). \n \nStudents who attend the course will have a first draft drape of a bodice\, skirt\, sleeve\, and pant pattern by the end of the course. Skills and concepts covered include fit\, grainline\, ease\, basic dart manipulation\, seam allowance\, and pattern trueing.

SUMMARY:Sew Basic: For People Who Know Absolutely Nothing About Sewing
DESCRIPTION:Sewing intrigues you but you don’t know where to start… Come learn about the basics of sewing in an inspiring and friendly atmosphere.\n\n\nIf only you could hem your own pants\, mend your torn clothes\, and reattach that button that fell off! This upcycling trend seems cool and you want to hop on board\, but where do you even start? Thanks to the Reagan administration gutting home economics programs in favor of STEM to compete with Russia during the Cold War\, most Millenials and Gen Zer’s never learned how to sew in school. \nIn this 2-hour class\, professional tailor and fashion designer Ruby Gertz will cover sewing basics from the ground up. You need ZERO experience to take this class! We will cover hand and machine sewing basics\, as well as how to choose a first project that can help you take your skills to the next level. \nRuby has over a decade of sewing teaching experience and has worked with children and adult students at all sewing levels\, from absolute beginners to fashion students deep in the thick of developing thesis collections for their BFAs. She is a friendly and patient teacher and excels at passing her love of sewing on to others. \nIn the class\, students will create a pin cushion that they can take home and use to store pins and needles. \nThis workshop is open to students ages 18+.
