DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, September 24\n4–6 pm \nCost: $5 \nPennypack Farm & Education Center\n685 Mann Rd\,\nHorsham\, PA 19044 \nIn this twilight tour of Pennypack Farm & Education Center\, get to know the farm’s fall and winter production systems and strategies. \nDuring this farm tour\, Co-Farm Managers Kirstie and Steph Jones will share their expertise on producing root vegetables for the winter CSA program\, preparing and planting hoophouses for winter growing\, cultivating fall greens\, and implementing cover cropping strategies to improve soil health and prepare fields for the next growing season. We’ll also learn about harvesting and caring for root crops while gaining practical insights into seasonal farm management. \nThis interactive event offers a valuable opportunity to ask questions and learn directly from experienced growers in a hands-on farm setting. \nAbout the host \nFounded in 2003\, Pennypack Farm & Education Center is a 13-acre diversified vegetable farm co-managed by Kirstie and Steph Jones using organic practices to grow for CSA and a food donation program. \nAccessibility notes: \n\n\nAttendees can expect to walk on flat and sloped\, uneven\, and unpaved terrain. \n\n\nAttendees will be in direct sun for a portion of the event. \n\n\nThere will be seating for a portion of the event. \n\n\nWe are willing to accommodate your dietary needs. Join us for the evening to mix\, mingle\, and share resources on all things agriculture.  Relax and enjoy the shade of tall sunflowers as we enter the fall season! During this gathering\, you’ll have the opportunity to network with other growers\, learn about agricultural events in the greater Philly area\, and share resources about growing food\, starting a farm business\, starting your own community garden\, and more! You’ll also hear from staff at Heroic Gardens\, Philadelphia Farm Service Agency\, Pasa Sustainable Agriculture\, and Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. This event is open to all new and seasoned growers\, including vegetable\, fruit\, and flower farmers and beekeepers in the Northeast Philadelphia region and surrounding areas. \nAbout the host/speaker(s) \nSince 2018\, Heroic Garden has been connecting Veterans and their families to the healing power of plants and nature—creating pathways for wellness\, purpose\, and community. Our work is rooted in the understanding that time spent outdoors\, working with plants\, can support emotional well-being while creating space for connection and shared experience. \nThe Sunflower Farm at Pennypack has expanded this impact by opening our model to the broader community. Join us virtually to learn more and come with all of your grant-related questions! \nAbout the Sustainable Ag Grant Program: \nThis grant program helps farmers adopt practices that emphasize sustainable agriculture. The initial round funded 16 innovative projects and is already helping farmers adopt practices that improve soil and water quality and reduce operating expenses through practices that are ecologically beneficial. \nPlease note: Only farmers in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed area are eligible to apply. During this informal social gathering\, you’ll learn about Philadelphia COC members and how to nominate fellow farmers to join the COC.
