DESCRIPTION:In an increasingly digital and virtual world\, working with wool has offered artist Holly Guertin a return to physical\, tactile experience. This talk explores how fiber and textile practices ground us in our bodies and reconnect us to material reality\, serving as a counterbalance to systems that often distance us from our humanity\, dignity\, and agency. \nThe presentation will feature works from Hand in Hand\, Holly’s upcoming solo exhibition on view July–October at Waterworks Visual Arts Center in Salisbury\, North Carolina. Through this collection\, Holly reflects on themes of connection\, reciprocity\, and communion between people and the earth\, using textiles as a medium to explore what it means to be human in relationship to land\, labor\, and one another. \nDate: April 15\nTime: 12-12:45 PM ET\nLocation: Virtual (Zoom link provided upon registration) \n\nAbout the Presenter: \nHolly Guertin is a contemporary fiber artist creating in felt\, embroidery\, and crochet. She received her BFA in Fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2011 and is currently based in the Philadelphia\, PA area. She has exhibited work at Twenty*Twenty House (2023 & 2024)\, Gallery 26 (2023)\, and Ogden Museum of Southern Art (2017). Her work has been featured in Surface Design Journal (2025)\, Dappled Things (2025)\, Colossal (2024)\, Business of Home (2023). In 2019\, Guertin collaborated with Anthropologie to create collections for Fall Home Goods and Holiday Decor inspired by her artworks. “All Like Sheep” (2011)\, “Pink Sheepskin” (2018)\, and “Rise and Fall” (2023) are exhibited in SCAD’s Permanent Collection. She is the Fiber Arts teacher and Chair of the Craftsmanship Department at Martin Saints Classical High School. In 2018\, he launched Eastern Hemp Company to advance research partnerships in agricultural systems\, plant-based materials\, and product development in the hemp and mushroom sectors. Oneal also works with Think and Grow Solutions to design hydroponic and aquaponic farms that support education and community development. A veteran and serial entrepreneur\, he contributes to statewide hemp policy and develops consumer brands including Atlas Alchemy and Pepper Bru.
