SUMMARY:How to be Online (And NOT Overwhelmed) Virtual Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to put your business out there online without feeling like you’re drowning in notifications.\n\n\nSocial media\, email lists\, websites\, newsletters; the list of places you’re “supposed to be” online never seems to stop growing. For many creative entrepreneurs\, the result isn’t visibility. It’s paralysis. \nIn this virtual session\, business coach Kate Gilbert cuts through the noise to help makers and small business owners build a sustainable\, intentional online presence that actually fits their life and business. Drawing on over a decade of running Twist Collective\, a successful online knitting magazine\, Kate knows firsthand how to show up consistently without burning out or losing focus. \nThis talk will help you: \n\nIdentify which online platforms and tools are actually worth your time\nCreate a simple\, repeatable system for showing up online with intention and consistency\nMove from overwhelm and overthinking to a clear\, actionable plan you can start using immediately\nBuild an online presence that reflects your brand and supports your goals\n\nBy the end of this session\, you’ll leave with a grounded\, realistic framework for being present online in a way that feels manageable and purposeful. \nAbout Tools of the Trades Virtual Pass:\nTools of the Trades is an annual hybrid conference dedicated to connecting artisans\, makers\, and creative entrepreneurs in Philadelphia and beyond to the business resources they actually need. We believe that creativity is the engine of our economy\, but community is the fuel. \nThis event is part of a continuing education workshop series designed to help craft-focused businesses accelerate growth and find success on their own terms. We don’t just teach business; we facilitate a space where expertise is disseminated across generations and where no question goes unanswered. \nThe Tools of the Trades Virtual Program Pass provides you access to five live virtual programs offered monthly from April to August 2026. SUMMARY:Maker Education Summit
DESCRIPTION:Calling all teachers\, educators\, and those looking to bring STEM education to their communities. NextFab\, alongside STEM Ed Consulting\, are hosting a day of learning and professional development to engage educators serving diverse populations. \nThis one-day event will be hosted at NextFab\, at 1800 N American St\, in Philadelphia\, where participants will work hands-on\, learning how to start or level up their makerspace\, connect with other educators and makers\, and take home a customized project. Starting with a tour of NextFab\, our technical experts will lead hands-on workshops to help participants make either a custom leather accessory\, cheeseboard\, or piece of textured jewelry to take home. After learning hands-on\, the day will break for lunch before moving into interactive workshops and demonstrations\, learning about makerspace safety and laser-cutting. Closing out the day\, participants will learn about the opportunities and how they can be a part of the Maker Education Movement\, an initiative dedicated to empowering K-12 schools in the greater Philadelphia region to embrace and advance maker education. \nIntegrating the maker mentality in the classroom allows students to own their learning while developing career readiness. SUMMARY:January Second Thursday at NextFab
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be featuring the Fixers Guild Repair Fair for our first event of the year! Why replace it when you can repair it? In these popup Repair Fairs\, the volunteers of the Philly Fixers Guild will help you fix your stuff\, free of charge\, and they’re ready for the challenge. Got tangled jewelry\, IKEA furniture that needs assembling\, or a vacuum cleaner that’s on the fritz? Sit down with one of their volunteers and they’ll help you hands-on with fixing it. While they do have some limits\, they encourage a read of their ground rules before bringing in your items. \nThis independent collective of talented volunteers from differing technical backgrounds is committed to the idea of “repair rather than replace.” These volunteer Fixers do not simply fix items for people but rather work with them to teach the troubleshooting and repair process. Ultimately\, our community will benefit from less waste and improved economic conservation. \nSign up for a  January slot here. \nTours of NextFab will be available\, and light drinks and refreshments will be served. \nWhat are Second Thursdays? \nFor 17 years\, the Crane Arts Building has hosted monthly art exhibitions\, performances\, and openings on the Second Thursday of every month. Similar to First Fridays in Old City\, but not wanting to compete\, Second Thursdays were created to highlight the creative community of the North Philadelphia neighborhood – and well it stuck! \nAmerican St. is becoming a booming street for artists\, makers\, and creatives of all types\, and we invite you to come out to be a part of this. Between the Crane Arts Building and the Clay Studio\, the NextFab building at 1800 North American St. houses seven businesses that also open their doors on the second Thursday of every month\, at 1800 N. American St.’s creative work ranges from maker classes\, sourcing salvaged materials\, empowering artists\, building bicycles\, supporting artisan businesses\, a gorgeous floral market\, and a restaurant mixing up amazing cocktails. All are welcome to this open house-style event! \nWhile at the Wheelhouse building be sure to check out our neighbors:\n\nThe Resource Exchange\nSor Ynez\nKeystone Bicycle Co\nBeaty American Salvage (City Ore)\nCenter for Creative Works\nVirida\nFarm N’ Sea Pets
