SUMMARY:Public Archeology Day at Newlin Grist Mill
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we dig into history with archaeological excavations at Newlin Grist Mill and learn more about the site through the evidence under our feet! \nThe Public Archaeology program seeks to evaluate archaeological resources and explore research questions concerning the development of the Newlin Grist Mill historic site while enhancing public knowledge and providing opportunities for the public to participate in the archaeological process. \nExcavations are conducted under the leadership of resident archaeologist Keith Doms with assistance from members of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology and volunteers from the community. Individuals and groups throughout the region volunteer one Saturday per month assisting with excavations and artifact cleaning. The project is bringing to light new evidence that reshapes earlier perceptions.

The Habitat Stewards group meets once a month to work on outdoor tasks related to habitat restoration and species conservation. Projects vary by month but include things like invasive plant removal\, tree planting\, garden maintenance\, trail cleanup\, and outdoor classroom care. \n1pm to 3pm. Pre-registration is required. SUMMARY:Building For The Birds
DESCRIPTION:Join Bird Town Pennsylvania\, Newlin Grist Mill\, and Valley Forge Audubon Society at the Media Borough Community Center for an afternoon to benefit the birds! Bird populations around the world are declining due to habitat loss and other factors\, but we can help by making sure our birds have places to nest each spring.\n\nParticipants will work together to build nest boxes for several different bird species that will be installed in the park at Newlin Grist Mill\, including in the newly-built wetland habitat. They will also have a chance to learn about bird identification\, bird biology and conservation\, and explore bird-inspired art.\n\nOpen to students ages 9+. Participation is FREE\, but pre-registration is required! To register\, please email Jessica Shahan at jshahan@newlingristmill.org. Please provide number of students\, number of adults\, and participant ages.
