SUMMARY:Wick & Grip\, Prop Repair Workshop + Fire Jam at Metal Inc Studio
DESCRIPTION:Wick & Grip is a hands-on maker and repair workshop focused on building\, maintaining\, and customizing fire and flow arts gear.\n\n\nWick & Grip is a hands-on maker and repair workshop focused on building\, maintaining\, and customizing fire and flow arts gear. This event is rooted in DIY skill-sharing and practical knowledge\, with guided support from experienced builders\, makers\, and safety leads. Participants will work on their own gear (or experiment with Philly Flow Academy’s for-repair props) and learn techniques they can keep using long after the workshop. \n \nOfferings include: \n \nWelding Repairs with Joe Campbell \n Joe will provide welding support for appropriate fire prop repairs. This includes structural fixes like broken spokes\, damaged crowns\, or other metal issues. Welding support is repair-focused\, and availability may depend on time and materials. Tip your artists. \n \nDIY Wood Prop Box Building with Tex Kang \n Build a custom wooden prop box designed for your gear. Tex provides the wood and guides participants through layout\, assembly\, and construction. Arrive with a simple game plan and bring any specialty hardware you want to use\, like hinges\, locks\, handles\, fasteners\, or decorative materials. \n \nGrip Tape Techniques with Alicia Talia \n Learn how to tape grips for comfort\, control\, and durability. This session covers clean wrapping\, functional layering\, and customization for different props and handling styles + help with kevlar wrapping. Bring your own grip tape or purchase our leftovers. \n \nBasic Leatherworking with Joel Dunham \n An introduction to leatherworking for fire props. Participants will cut\, shape\, and edge leather pieces for grips or protective elements. Sewing\, molding\, and finishing techniques will be explained for completion after the workshop. A small materials cost is expected. \n \nFire Safety Lesson with Noel Yee \n A practical fire safety lesson covering core principles\, awareness\, and best practices for personal and community fire spaces. This supports safer gear use and better decision-making. \n \nHeads up!! One to two months of advance planning is recommended so participants can gather materials and think through their designs ahead of time. Workshop vibes – focused and productive (also\, party vibes\, pizza and brews are welcomed!) \n \nMore details will be shared soon. \nAdditional offerings may be added as the event comes together. \n \nQuestions or want to offer a skill?
