SUMMARY:"Homecoming" Curators Talk & Tour with Meg Wolensky
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate Curators Talk & Tour of “Homecoming” at the 20*20 House in Lansdowne!\n\n\nThe LEDC’s Art Committee warmly invites you to join us for a special Curators Talk and Tour of Homecoming\, an exhibition celebrating the layered realities of LGBTQIA+ domestic life\, on Saturday\, May 17\, from 6-7.30 PM at the 20*20 Gallery in Lansdowne\, PA. Light refreshments will be served. \nCurated by Meg Wolensky\, Homecoming brings together 20 artists from the Greater Philadelphia Area whose work invokes the comforts and complications of LGBTQIA+ domestic life across intersectional and intergenerational perspectives. Each artist centralizes LGBTQIA+ experience in their work\, carving space for themselves and their kin\, by blood or chosen bond\, to exist\, thrive and survive. \nJoin us for an intimate walkthrough of the show as Wolensky shares behind-the-scenes insights into the curatorial process and unveils hidden narratives embedded in the artwork—from technical details about material choices to personal stories that inspired each piece. Learn how each artist centralizes LGBTQIA+ experience and reclaims domestic space as a site of resistance\, joy\, and care. \nCome be part of this vibrant dialogue on LGBTQIA+ belonging\, memory\, and place. All are welcome! \n \n \nCurator\, Meg Wolensky is a queer artist based in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. Wolensky’s work has been exhibited in galleries\, museums\, universities\, and cultural venues across the country. With a PAFA BFA (’14) and Drexel Arts Administration MS (’16)\, she lends professional curatorial\, grant-writing\, and arts administration services to queer artists\, students\, organizations and initiatives. \n \nPublic gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays\, noon – 4 pm. \n \nThis exhibition is organized by the LEDC’s Art Committee\, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. SUMMARY:Object Memory Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:TheLEDC’s Art Committee invites you to celebrate the opening of our newest art exhibit\, “Object Memory” on Saturday\, February 22\, from 5-8 P\n\n\nThe LEDC’s Art Committee invites you to join us for the opening reception for Object Memory on Saturday\, February 22\, from 5-8 PM at the 20*20 Gallery in Lansdowne\, PA. \nWithout prompting\, some objects have the ability to transport us to another time and place. These imprints\, however\, are often fragile and fallible — shaped by telling\, retelling\, omission\, and embellishment. \nIn Object Memory\, artists Jen Blazina and Ashley Catharine Smith collect\, mend\, and revise objects — some inherited from family members\, others left behind by strangers — to explore how the things we inherit can become objects of myth\, shaping our understanding of the past\, each other\, and ourselves. \nJen Blazina is a record keeper of memories. She salvages discarded objects\, revealing their worth as vessels of personal history. By recreating fragile items in bronze and glass\, she renders them durable against the wear of time\, preserving traces of stories that might otherwise fade. \nAshley Catharine Smith examines the forces of emotional expectations and gender roles\, unraveling how they shape relationships and narratives of identity. Using objects from family members as a foundation\, her work confronts fractures of trust\, both within her family and in a society that has repeatedly betrayed the trust of women. \nPlayful at times and poignant at others\, Blazina and Smith’s charged objects evoke cherished memories and honor past lives\, while acknowledging the weight of anxiety and intergenerational trauma. Together they remind us that repair — whether of objects\, relationships\, or histories — is an ongoing process of adaptation and reinvention. What stories can we mend? In what ways do we revise them? And why should we make space for time-worn objects in our modern lives? \n \n \nPublic gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays\, noon – 4 pm. \n \nThis exhibition is organized by the LEDC’s Art Committee\, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the LEDC’s Arts Committee is to create\, foster\, and promote Lansdowne’s identity as a vibrant and inspiring artistic community. The LEDC’s Art Committee is dedicated to nurturing creative expression\, enhancing community engagement\, stimulating economic growth\, preserving and celebrating Lansdowne’s diversity\, and cultivating arts education and access. \n \nThe 20*20 House is a Lansdowne Borough-owned property. Originally a residential home built in the early 19th century\, the 20*20 House has been transformed into a community space with gallery spaces on 2 floors\, a dedicated workshop space\, as well as a yoga studio. \n \nAccessibility Statement of 20*20 House: \nThe LEDC and Lansdowne Art Committee are committed to provide a welcoming and accessible environment for all individuals\, including those with disabilities. We strive to ensure that our facilities\, services\, and events are as accessible as we can make them\, giving you the confidence to visit us. \nParking \nThere are several dedicated parking spaces on campus available to the public\, as well as additional street parking along Lansdowne Court. \nThere is a passenger drop-off area on the rear accessibility ramp. \nFirst Floor Accessibility \nInclusive Design: Our first floor is designed to be inclusive and ensure accessibility for all. \nApproachable Entrance: Our accessible entrance is in the back of the house. There is a ramp for whoever needs it. If possible\, please email us at arts@lansdownesfuture.org in advance of your visit so we can ensure that the gallery sitter is aware that this entrance will be used. \nAccessible Restroom: We offer two accessible gender-neutral bathroom for the convenience of all visitors. \nWide Walkways: Our walkways are wide enough to accommodate wheelchair users\, ensuring smooth and easy navigation. \nRest areas: There are benches and seating throughout the house for those who need to rest. A filtered water fountain is available to the public. \nSecond Floor Accessibility \nStaircase: The staircase has steep steps. It may be difficult for those who are tall or have mobility issues. \nCommitment to Improvement \nWe recognize the importance of continuous improvement in accessibility and are committed to making our facilities as inclusive as possible where we can. If you have any specific accessibility needs or suggestions for how we can improve\, please contact us. We will do our best to accommodate your requests and ensure a positive experience at the 20*20 House.

SUMMARY:Play Reading - Ushers in the House
DESCRIPTION:Please join BLACK MAGIC WOMAN Productions on Monday\, February 10\, at 6 pm for a script-in-hand reading of “Ushers In The House\,” a new one-act drama by Joseph P. Blake. Admission is free\, light refreshments provided. \nPLAY SYNOPSIS:\nAt 85\, Oscar Thomas is a Vietnam Veteran\, former Black Panther\, widower\, father\, and a grandfather. He’s also worked as a farm laborer\, spent four decades as a postal worker. In the sunset of his life he’s begun to contemplate his legacy and the possessions he wants to leave his family. The latter has forced him to grapple with the painful fact that items he considers heirlooms are insignificant to his family and viewed as relics of a past just as insignificant to them. \nA painting entitled “Ushers” is among the things Oscar has collected since his daughters were children. Oscar’s perceptions of the the world are now viewed through lenses where things like humility\, courage\, and familial loyalty are becoming as obsolete as a rotary phone. \nNote: A brief Talk-back with the actors and the playwright will follow this premiere reading!
