SUMMARY:First Friday Opening Reception: "From the Earth\, We Rise"
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the opening of “From the Earth\, We Rise” at The National Old City Apartments\n\n\nJoin us for the Opening Reception of From the Earth\, We Rise! Featuring work by SKimberly Stemler and Nancy Gordon. \nFriday\, October 3rd\, 6p – 8p \n \nAbout the Exhibition: \nFrom the Earth\, We Rise is an exploration of movement and surrender in human nature’s purest form. Showcasing the work of artists Kimberly Stemler and Nancy Gordon\, striving to balance their expression of inspired nostalgia with their colorful brushstrokes. Stemler’s investigative nature draws upon a deeper understanding of connection with her own ancestry\, questioning one’s own identity. Her main subject matter is divided between landscape\, object\, and myth. She draws heavily on the wistfulness of memory\, creating a space for viewers to reflect. Gordon continuously shows a vibrant enthusiasm to break away from the bounds of realism\, and delve deeper into the potential of what abstraction can be. Gaining her influence from the Impressionists\, her work lives in its own natural world. With the work of these two artists\, this exhibition celebrates the everchanging growth of both body and soul. From the way we came to the way we return\, From the Earth\, We Rise reminds us of the joy we can find in the horizon\, until the sun sets on our next tomorrow.  \nLearn More

SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Linda Celestian and Amy Orr
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at 6:00 PM on Thursday\, July 24th\, for a two-person artist talk with Linda Celestian and Amy Orr\n\n\nPlease join us at 6:00 PM on Wednesday\, September 17\, for a two-person artist talk with Linda Celestian and Amy Orr in the Oar Pub\, Park Towne Place. Light refreshments will be served. \nBoth artists are featured in the Park Towne Place Permanent Collection\, which houses over 150 original pieces of art. \nLinda Celestian’s work pulls from her memories and feelings about nature\, while Amy Orr involves the reinvention of manufactured material like plastic. Come learn more about their practice and the Permanent Collection. \nSchedule \n6:00p | Open doors \n6:15p | Artist talk begins \n7:15p | Tour of the Permanent Collection in the Towne Center \n \nAbout the Artists \nLinda Celestian grew up in upstate New York. She attended Moore College of Art receiving an MFA in Fashion Design and completed a year of postgraduate study in Painting and Sculpture. After a few years as a designer in the Fashion industry she returned to fine art experimenting with new techniques and materials. \nShe works with paint in its fluid form manipulating it to imitate natural occurrences. \nShe enjoys exploring natural techniques to sculpt her fiber creations\, including nuno felting\, shibori dyeing\, and rust dyeing. Silk has been her preferred material because of its diaphanous qualities. Inspired by nature\, small sculptures are stitched to linen circles like specimens and can be installed as collections. Elegant wearables harken back to her fashion roots. \nHer large\, suspended sculptures command a space while concurrently feeling weightless and free-floating. \n— \nAmy Orr is a multimedia artist whose work often involves the reinvention of manufactured materials; plastic and plastic cards in particular. The understanding and perception of plastic and ephemera is changing quickly. Where Amy’s work was once a lighthearted narrative about consumerism and culture\, it is now overshadowed by the environmental disaster that our single-use practice has caused. \nAmy is drawn to materials for their color\, abundance and original intent. Whether constructing a patterned composition or figurative mosaic\, the plastic fragments become a sparkling wasteland of personal histories and common stories. With a background in textiles\, Orr’s work can be understood with references to the crazy quilt\, in which fabric scraps are pieced together to create a whole cloth that is greater then the sum of its parts. \nPreviously a tenured professor\, administrator\, designer\, and art publication editor\, Amy Orr is now a studio and street artist. She accepts commissions for portraits\, logos and architectural installations.

SUMMARY:Portrait Photography Workshop with Donald E. Camp
DESCRIPTION:Donald E. Camp joins us at Maja Park to lead attendees through a portrait photography workshop.\n\n\nDonald E. Camp joins us at Maja Park to lead attendees through a portrait photography workshop. Using thermal printing cameras\, Donald will lead guests through the stages of portrait photography\, and guests will get to take their work home with them. Audience members should plan to arrive at 5:30 and stay for the entirety of the workshop\, as Donald will be leading guests through a step by step process. \n \nDonald E. Camp is one of the photographers featured in the InLiquid Exhibition\, Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection. On view from August 8th – September 27th at the InLiquid Gallery at 1400 N American St. Learn more here. \n \nAbout the Exhibition: \nTwenty years ago\, New Orleans underestimated the impact that Hurricane Katrina would have. Once Katrina hit land\, aging infrastructure failed\, and an entire city was thrown into an unimaginable hellscape of flooding waters and crumbling humanity. The United States Government proved institutional neglect and systemic inequalities were\, and are still\, very much a part of the American way of life – especially for people of color. Donald E. Camp and Clarence Williams\, two acclaimed Black photojournalists with Philly roots\, who experienced the devastation first-hand\, alongside poet and spoken word artist\, Ursula Rucker\, reflect on that history in Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection. The exhibition curated by accomplished artist/photographer and cultural activist Lonnie Graham recounts\, photographically and poetically\, the experiences of those who endured Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.  \n \nRevelations: An Evolution of Introspection includes a haunting series of images captured by Clarence Williams in the days and weeks immediately following Hurricane Katrina’s landfall and the subsequent failure of levees. His photos highlight the sheer chaos of the time for those seeking shelter among the bodies of the deceased who were abandoned. In a more subtle approach\, Donald E. Camp uses mud washed inland from the event for his non-traditional photographic techniques\, using the residue of the disaster to create his photographic portraits. Williams’ and Camp’s different approaches illustrate how artists understand and contextualize the world around them to communicate their ideas. Finally\, Ursula Rucker lends her words in a series of poems\, originally published in her and Clarence Williams’ book “Drown the Devil\,” to convey the anguish of those who experienced Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. \n \n——- \nThis workshop is part of the Parkway to Park Festival. SUMMARY:Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection - 2nd Thursday Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Reception for ‘Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection’ at InLiquid Gallery\n\n\nJoin us on 2nd Thursday at Crane Arts and get an inside look at Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection curated by Lonnie Graham\, featuring work by Donald Camp\, Ursula Rucker\, and Clarence Williams \n \nAbout the exhibition: \nTwenty years ago\, New Orleans underestimated the impact of Hurricane Katrina. After Katrina hit land\, aging infrastructure failed\, an entire city was thrown into an unimaginable hellscape of flooding waters and crumbling humanity\, and the United States Government proved institutional neglect and systemic inequalities were (and are) still very much a part of the American way of life – especially for people of color. Two photographers\, Donald Camp and Clarence Williams\, reflect on that history today in their two-person exhibition Revelation: an Evolution of Introspection at the InLiquid Gallery in the Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia\, PA. With this exhibition\, InLiquid aims to educate our community and share resources to prevent such tragedies from happening here in the Kensington area of Philadelphia. Ideally\, this artwork and the education our programming will provide can also be shared as a resource in cities throughout the country as global climate change continues to evolve and creates the need for greater emergency preparedness in all areas.  \n \nBoth Camp and Williams share a similar career path\, coming of age as Black men in Pennsylvania and entering the workforce as staff photographers for local news outlets in Philadelphia\, The Philadelphia Evening Bulletin\, and The Philadelphia Tribune\, retrospectively. Through their photojournalist careers\, both sought to ensure agency to the Black subjects they captured so that readers would see Black men presented in more nuanced and dignified ways than just through mugshots\, as was and is still all too common in the representation of these subjects. Though they share a similar origin story\, they both arrived at two very different places in terms of their visual interpretation of the world and the representation of their life experiences.  \n \nRevelation: an Evolution of Introspection includes a haunting series of images captured by Williams in the days and the weeks immediately following Hurricane Katrina’s landfall and the subsequent failure of levees. His photos highlight the sheer chaos of the time for those seeking shelter among the bodies of the deceased who were abandoned. In a more subtle approach\, Camp uses mud that had been washed inland for his non-traditional photographic techniques\, using the residue of the disaster to create his photographic portraits. Williams’ and Camp’s different approaches illustrate how artists understand and contextualize the world around them to communicate their ideas. Through this communication\, we can understand the profound complexity\, resonant effect\, and sublime intricacy of the human experience. \n \nThe InLiquid Gallery is located within the Crane Arts Building\, which is wheelchair accessible. There is limited accessible parking at the front of the building and a ramp leading to the main entrance. The main building door is not automated. Two all-gender bathrooms with multiple stalls are available for use — one with urinals\, one without\, and both with 1–2 wheelchair-accessible stall(s).

SUMMARY:The Luminous Forest Artist Talk with Lanny Bergner
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an artist talk with Lanny Bergner in conjunction with his exhibition ‘The Luminous Forest’\n\n\nJoin us for an artist talk with Lanny Bergner \n \nInto the Mesh: A Walk Through Nature \nInLiquid\, in partnership with Gravers Lane Gallery\, is pleased to present “The Luminous Forest”\, a fiber exhibition featuring an installation by Lanny Bergner at the Crane Arts Building. A reception will be held on June 12th\, 6:00-9:00 pm\, with an artist talk 5:00 – 5:45 pm. This immersive installation at the InLiquid Gallery invites viewers to explore a meditative world where organic wonder meets meticulous craftsmanship. \nAs a resident of Fidalgo Island\, Washington State\, Lanny Bergner has been inspired by the lush diversity of nature in the Pacific Northwest woodlands for most of his life. Daily nature exposure – whether through forestland hikes or garden walks – nurtures Lanny’s appreciation for the mysterious life force existing around him. \nThis series of work reflects Lanny’s response to that environment. He creates his vision using man-made materials of metal mesh\, monofilament\, wire\, acrylic pigments and glass frit that he flame paints\, knots\, twists and hand models\, transforming these elements into ethereal constructions. \nViewers are invited to enter a forest-like environment expressed through embossed mesh wall panels accentuated with leaf shapes\, as well as with hanging pods containing luminescent biomorphic structures. Wall-mounted basket forms in dialogue with suspended geometric works complete the assemblage and act as codices for the gallery installation hinting at the mysteries of it all. \n \nLanny Bergner has worked with metal mesh since 1983 and maintains a studio on Fidalgo Island\, Washington state\, in the Pacific Northwest. He received his M.F.A. in sculpture from Tyler School of Art\, Temple University\, in 1983 after earning a B.F.A. in sculpture from the University of Washington in 1981. His work is in numerous museum collections including the Renwick Gallery\, Smithsonian American Art Museum\, Washington DC; Philadelphia Museum of Art\, Philadelphia\, PA; Seattle Art Museum\, Seattle\, WA; Museum of Art and Design\, NY\, NY; Fuller Craft Museum\, Brockton\, MA and the Central Museum of Textile\, Łódź\, Poland\, The Woodmere Museum of Art\, Philadelphia & the Abramson Cancer Center\, University of Pa. \nIn 1995 he was the recipient of the Betty Bowen Memorial Award administered by the Seattle Art Museum\, and in 2005 he was awarded a Gold Prize at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Cheongju\, Korea. In 2010 he was one of five American artists who exhibited in the 13thInternational Triennial of Tapestry in Łódź\, Poland. \nIn 2023 Mr. Bergner was invited to lend five of his sculptures for display in the “Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses” retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the Palais du Louvre\, Paris\, France. After the Paris run in April 2024 the exhibition moved to Brisbane\, Australia with subsequent worldwide locations pending. \nIn addition to his studio practice and exhibition schedule Mr. Bergner has taught workshops at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg\, TN and at Touchstone Center for Crafts in Farmington\, PA as well as at several National Basketry Organization Conferences. Internationally Mr. Bergner has conducted workshops at Geelong Fibre Forum in Victoria\, Australia\, and at Timeless Textiles in Newcastle\, Australia. \n \nARTIST STATEMENT \nLanny Bergner (born in Anacortes\, WA\, 1952) is a mixed-media metal mesh sculptor with a body of work ranging from small basketry to large-scale installations. \nHe creates his sculptural works using industrially woven stainless steel and copper mesh that he cuts into shapes and flame paints with a butane and/or propane torch. He then hand models the mesh creating bas-relief accentuating the flame painted design. With linesman pliers he connects the mesh together transforming the material into \nthree-dimensional semi-transparent biomorphic and geometric constructions. He finishes each piece by hand-stitching seams with coated wire. \nThe resulting forms reference the natural world\, both micro and macro. Plant biology\, undersea creatures\, cellular structures\, earth geology and otherworldly cosmology inspire his creations. His visually intricate works engage the viewer with glimpses into a universe where nature and manmade materials coalesce while celebrating the mystery and wonder of it all. \n \nThe InLiquid Gallery is located within the Crane Arts Building\, which is wheelchair accessible. SUMMARY:First Friday Opening Reception: The Hues that Guide Us
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the opening of The Hues that Guide Us at The National Old City Apartments\n\n\nJoin us for the Opening Reception of The Hues that Guide Us! Featuring work by Sandi Neiman Lovitz and Val Rossman. \nFriday\, June 6th\, 6p – 8p \n \nAbout the Exhibition: \nThe Hues that Guide Us is a dynamic exhibition that explores the impulsive and persuasive power of color\, featuring artists Val Rossman and Sandi Neiman Lovitz. Both artists share an intrinsic connection to the language of color\, using it as a conduit to explore and express deeply personal experiences. Rossman’s work is a blend of careful planning and unpredictable disruptions\, where layers of painted shapes\, empty spaces\, and marks represent the constant interplay between control and chaos in life. Her process\, filled with vibrant color and spontaneous gestures\, reflects a joyful and adventurous exploration of the self\, rooted in the belief that beauty\, joy\, and quietude are essential in navigating a turbulent world. \nLovitz\, similarly\, channels the transformative power of color to create expressive\, spontaneous works that embody hope\, happiness\, and empowerment. From her early infatuation with a robin’s egg blue to the revelation of abstract art by Franz Kline\, Lovitz has always been driven by color’s ability to transcend the limitations of words. Her paintings are layered with rhythms and bold bursts of color that invite the viewer to engage in a conversation of their own\, tapping into feelings and stories beyond the surface. In The Hues that Guide Us\, both artists celebrate the unexpected and transformative possibilities of color\, inviting us to embark on our own visual journey\, where intuition\, emotion\, and creativity merge. \nLearn More: \nhttps://www.inliquid.org/satellite-events/the-hues-that-guide-us

SUMMARY:A quiet roar
DESCRIPTION:The opening reception for A Quiet Roar at the May 28\, 6 to 8 pm at the Hyatt Centric.\n\n\nA CELEBRATION OF QUEER ARTISTRY:  \nA QUIET ROAR OPENS AT HYATT CENTRICPride Month Exhibit Features Bold Works By LGBTQIA+ Philly Artists  \nKeith R. Breitfeller\, Brian David Dennis\, and Patrick Michael Carrow \n  \nPHILADELPHIA\, PA (May 14\, 2025) – Hyatt Centric Center City Philadelphia\, the upscale lifestyle hotel in Rittenhouse Square\, is continuing its annual Pride Month celebration with the opening of A Quiet Roar\, a multidisciplinary exhibition curated by InLiquid\, featuring the work of three Philadelphia-based LGBTQIA+ artists: Keith R. Breitfeller\, Brian David Dennis\, and Patrick Michael Carrow. The exhibit runs from May 15 through July 14\, with an opening reception on Wednesday\, May 28 from 6–8 PM. \n \nThe public is invited to celebrate the opening of A Quiet Roar at the May 28 reception from 6 pm to 8 pm\, where guests can enjoy complimentary light bites from Patchwork Restaurant and pay-as-you-go cocktails from the adjacent bar. All artwork and accessories on view will be available for purchase. \n  \nA Quiet Roar invites guests to reflect on themes of interconnectivity through color\, form\, and materiality. This multidisciplinary exhibition brings together the work of three Philadelphia-based LGBTQIA+ artists—Keith R. Breitfeller\, Brian David Dennis\, and Patrick Michael Carrow—whose practices are united by a deep\, intuitive understanding of how objects and ideas relate. From hyper-saturated pointillist canvases and emotionally charged installations to sustainable fashion accessories crafted from upcycled textiles\, each artist channels personal history and material sensibility into a broader meditation on connection. Whether in the shared studio practice of Breitfeller and Dennis\, or the tactile storytelling embedded in Carrow’s handbags\, A Quiet Roarmakes space for introspection and joy in equal measure. \n  \nArtists Keith R. Breitfeller and Brian David Dennis\, partners in both life and art\, offer a cohesive visual dialogue grounded in contrast and complement. Breitfeller’s paintings—comprised of countless individual dots in shifting color palettes—are influenced by pointillism and modernist composition\, seeking a meditative stillness amidst sensory overload. Dennis’s multimedia installations\, often built from salvaged materials\, are energetic and transformative\, drawing attention to the overlooked textures of everyday life. His work merges spontaneity with formal precision\, guided by influences ranging from Josef Svoboda’s theatrical set design to the emotive intensity of Francis Bacon. Patrick Michael Carrow\, founder of Patrick Michael Accessories\, contributes a tactile dimension to the exhibition with his one-of-a-kind handbags crafted from surplus fabric swatches. With a discerning eye for pattern\, texture\, and proportion\, Carrow allows the materials themselves to guide his design process\, celebrating sustainability and individuality through wearable art. \n  \n“We’re proud to continue our partnership with InLiquid and to present A Quiet Roar during Pride Month\,” said Elizabeth Fricke\, Director of Sales and Marketing at Hyatt Centric Philadelphia. “This year’s exhibit showcases the quiet strength\, creativity\, and dialogue shared between artists who approach their practice with intention and love—both for their craft and for the community.” \n

SUMMARY:First Friday Opening Reception: Echoes of Change and Origin
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the opening of Echoes of Change and Origin at The National Old City Apartments\n\n\nJoin us for the Opening Reception of Echoes of Change and Origin! Featuring work by Deborah Moss Marris and Demetra Tassiou. \nFriday\, February 7th\, 6p – 8p \n \nAbout the Exhibition: \nEchoes of Change and Origin presents a compelling exploration of humanity’s complex relationship with the natural world. Featuring the works of Deborah Moss Marris and Demetra Tassiou\, whose layered approaches uncover profound narratives of transformation\, memory\, and connection. \nMarris delves into the urgent themes of climate change and pollution. Through meticulously layered images of nature and animals\, her work juxtaposes the beauty of the natural world with its fragility in the face of atmospheric and environmental degradation. Her pieces evoke a visceral sense of how external landscapes mirror the internal\, the shifting climates within us shaped by a planet in flux. \nIn contrast\, Tassiou\, a Greek-American artist\, turns inward to reconstruct her ties to her homeland. Her abstracted\, memory-driven compositions layer impressions of natural scenes\, offering a dreamlike reimagining of a place both lost and retained in her psyche. Her work invites viewers to consider how landscapes are not merely physical spaces but repositories of identity\, nostalgia\, and cultural heritage. \nTogether\, these artists illustrate the dualities inherent in our interaction with nature: external versus internal\, global versus personal\, degradation versus preservation. Their shared use of layering serves as both a technique and metaphor\, symbolizing the interconnected strata of memory\, identity\, and environmental impact. \nThis exhibition not only highlights the unique approaches of these artists but also asks critical questions about our shared future. How do we reconcile the past with the rapidly changing present? What responsibilities do we hold as stewards of the environment? Through their layered visions\, the artists prompt us to reflect on the imprints we leave on the earth\, and the imprints it leaves on us. \nLearn More: \nhttps://www.inliquid.org/satellite-events/echos-of-change-origin

SUMMARY:anamnesis - January 2nd Thursday Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Reception for ‘anamnesis’ at InLiquid Gallery in conjunction with the Crane Arts Building’s 2nd Thursday!\n\n\nJoin us on 2nd Thursday at Crane Arts in celebrating the group exhibition anamnesis. \n \nIn anamnesis\, we delve into the intricate tapestry of the human experience\, exploring the profound themes of existence\, memory\, and the interplay of technology with our intimate lives. Featuring five artists: Doug Bucci\, williamCromar\, Zach Mellman-Carsey\, John Singletary\, and Chris Vecchio\, this exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the cyclical nature of life\, the inevitability of mortality\, and the ways we navigate our connections with one another and the world around us. \nThe term “anamnesis\,” derived from ancient Greek\, signifies the act of remembering and recalling past experiences. Each artist engages with the echoes of memory—personal and collective — with a unique connection to technology. John Singletary highlights our origins and the roles we play for each other and ourselves in Traces\, while williamCromar and Doug Bucci interrogate how our recollections influence our interactions with the present and the past through the reimagining of historical art objects. \nIn the other sense of “anamnesis\,” referring to a patient’s medical history\, Bucci’s work dives into the endlessness of living with chronic illness. Zach Mellman-Carsey and Chris Vecchio draw from the physicality of anatomy and its integration with technology through interactive\, and in some cases functional\, sound objects that are only activated by the proximity to one’s body. Depicting infinite cycles\, repetition\, life\, and death\, this intimate exhibition ultimately challenges us to confront our shared humanity and the myriad ways we remember and relate to our existence. \n \n \nThe InLiquid Gallery is located within the Crane Arts Building\, which is wheelchair accessible. There is limited accessible parking at the front of the building and a ramp leading to the main entrance. The main building door is not automated. Two all-gender bathrooms with multiple stalls are available for use — one with urinals\, one without\, and both with 1–2 wheelchair-accessible stall(s).

SUMMARY:Voter Registration at InLiquid Gallery
DESCRIPTION:About the event:\nOne PA is joining InLiquid Gallery for one final push to get Philadelphians registered to vote! Join us on Saturday October 19th from 12p – 6p to register to vote\, enjoy light refreshments\, and get a first look at InLiquid’s newest exhibition The Voice of The People. This exhibition highlights work by InLiquid Member Artists that are creating pieces about the current political landscape in our country. All participating artists have unique voices and perspectives on how this landscape affects them\, their lives\, and their loved ones. We’re partnering with One PA\, an organization that has been mobilizing Pennsylvanians and getting their voices heard since 2011\, to host a Voter Registration event in conjunction with our political show. What better way to activate our community than with powerful art\, and powerful actions. \n—- \nAbout One PA:\n“One PA is a base building organization led by community members\, creating a powerful voice for racial\, economic and social justice in pennsylvania.” \nMission:\nWe are building a movement for political representation that stands for racial\, economic and environmental justice and against profits over people and voter disenfranchisement. OnePA members endorse political candidates and mobilize to elect them.\nOnePA works to challenge discouragement that comes up in communities about our political system while we fight to protect and expand democracy and voting rights. We know that meaningful change comes from everyday people coming together to have a voice in our political system and we are deeply committed to doing this work. \nHistory:\nOne PA was founded in 2011 as a part of SEIU’s Fight for a Fair Economy\, originally called One Pittsburgh. We fought for working families in Allegheny County and worked to change the conversation about injustice and the U.S. economy. We recognized the need to build the political power of working families\, and launched grassroots efforts to knock on tens of thousands of doors. We built a robust member base and directly took on structural inequality. By 2015 the pieces had come together merging the best traditions of labor\,community organizing and civic engagement into a vision of a new independent organization. A year later\, we expanded to Philadelphia and became One PA. \nToday\, One PA is a formidable membership organization dedicated to building a movement for progressive\, multiracial working class power with a deep focus on Black liberation. We are building a powerful political movement led by people from communities impacted by racial\, economic and gender injustice. We prioritize deep leadership development and political education with our member leaders\, canvassers and organizers\, to center frontline experiences and build a strong movement leadership pipeline.. We fight for policy reforms that improve the lives of working families\, strengthen the community\, and grow our political power. \nAbout InLiquid:\nInLiquid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to creating opportunities and exposure for visual artists through exhibitions in the InLiquid Gallery and satellite exhibition spaces\, all while serving as a free\, online\, public hub that showcases Philadelphia’s vast visual arts culture. We actively promote artists’ work online by constructing public\, searchable high quality pages that include contact information\, artwork\, resumes/bios\, statements\, relevant links and exhibit history. Through our numerous ongoing exhibition programs distributed throughout the city in galleries and alternative spaces\, meaningful partnerships with cultural organizations and corporate clients\, unique community-engaged events\, and the nurturing of relationships with art collectors\, we introduce and connect the quality\, diversity and magnitude of our region’s visual art culture to broader audiences\, thus directly impacting Philadelphia’s cultural community and economy. \nAbout The Voice of the People:\nThe Voice of the People is a juried open-call exhibition featuring 12 InLiquid Member Artists. This exhibition invited current InLiquid artist members to submit works that explore American Politics. Each artist brings a unique artistic perspective on the political choices we make\, the systems we exist within\, and portrayed security within our political environment.

DESCRIPTION:One PA is joining InLiquid Gallery for one final push to get Philadelphians registered to vote!\n\n\nAbout the event:  \nOne PA is joining InLiquid Gallery for one final push to get Philadelphians registered to vote! \n \n—- \n \nAbout One PA:  \n“One PA is a base building organization led by community members\, creating a powerful voice for racial\, economic and social justice in pennsylvania.”  \n \nMission:  \nWe are building a movement for political representation that stands for racial\, economic and environmental justice and against profits over people and voter disenfranchisement.  OnePA members endorse political candidates and mobilize to elect them. \nOnePA works to challenge discouragement that comes up in communities about our political system while we fight to protect and expand democracy and voting rights.  We know that meaningful change comes from everyday people coming together to have a voice in our political system and we are deeply committed to doing this work. \n \nHistory:  \nOne PA was founded in 2011 as a part of SEIU’s Fight for a Fair Economy\, originally called One Pittsburgh. \n \nToday\, One PA is a formidable membership organization dedicated to building a movement for progressive\, multiracial working class power with a deep focus on Black liberation. \n \nAbout InLiquid:  \nInLiquid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to creating opportunities and exposure for visual artists through exhibitions in the InLiquid Gallery and satellite exhibition spaces\, all while serving as a free\, online\, public hub that showcases Philadelphia’s vast visual arts culture. \n \nAbout The Voice of the People:  \nThe Voice of the People is a juried open-call exhibition featuring 12  InLiquid Member Artists. This exhibition invited current InLiquid artist members to submit works that explore American Politics. Each artist brings a unique artistic perspective on the political choices we make\, the systems we exist within\, and portrayed security within our political environment.

SUMMARY:Capturing the Surreal
DESCRIPTION:Capturing the Surreal highlights the work of three artists inventing bright and new realities. Vibrant\, color-forward\, and an explosion of energy\, each artist’s work is a commentary on society that begins with the question: what is real and what isn’t? Through photography\, artificial reality\, and animation\, the artists evoke dream-like fantasies that intertwine their lived experiences with their interaction between the physical and the virtual world. Immersive and powerful\, their work dives into a space of light and color that threads humorous narratives of the visually and conceptually surreal. Kelli Williams and Charmaine Caire bring puppets\, dolls\, and figurines to life in their photography\, Williams with a certain familiarity with the so-present social media space\, Caire in the absurd scenarios she stages\, both existing in the in-between of reality and fiction. Eva Wu’s potent and saturated use of color and textures extorts intimate otherworldly dimensions reminding us we are somewhere idyllic\, somewhere unfamiliar.

These stories will help audiences better understand the work and the conversations within. Doors will open at 1:30 pm\, and the performance will start at 2:00 pm. \nWe will continue with two mini-artist talks from Kimberly Camp and Emilio Maldonado\, the featured artists of Dolls\, Idols\, and Ideals. For the past 20 years\, her stage performances and training “playshops” have promoted and cultivated Sacred Feminine Practices and techniques. Saundra is the founder of Femininely Free!\, and the current co-chair of the Philadelphia Folklore Project. \n \nDolls\, Idols\, and Ideals features Kimberly Camp and Emilio Maldonado\, two Black artists investigating their identity\, label\, lineage\, and how they create their own power while stranded in a “new world.” Camp and Maldonado artists use symbols – made or found – that reference their ancestry and spirituality. Rather than working from a notion of unchanging traditions\, they engage with aesthetics and amalgamated cultural practices that have been adapted in order to survive. Each artist finds strength\, magic\, and power in these shapeshifting\, resilient elements in full embrace and exploration of their individual and shared heritages.
