DESCRIPTION:Brittany Ann Tranbaugh\, 2021 winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest\, will open Hansberry Garden & Nature Center’s 2025 Summer Concert Series on Thursday\, May 29\, at 6 p.m. with a performance in the garden’s Dr. Edward Chun Amphitheater. Brittany Ann Tranbaugh (pronounced TRAN-baw) is a Philadelphia-based songwriter whose queer Americana heartbreaker “Kiss You” won Song of the Year in the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. A favorite at the Philadelphia Folk Festival and WXPN’s World Cafe Live\, she tours from the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters. Critics praise her arresting turns of phrase\, keen powers of observation\, effortless\, soaring vocals and irresistible musicality. This show is the first event in Hansberry Garden’s 2025 Summer Concert Series. \nComposed of of five diverse shows\, the concert series will happen on the final Thursday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. Admission is on a pay-what-you-wish basis. DESCRIPTION:A variety of vendors will join Hansberry Garden volunteers to offer plants\, plant-related items and home-baked treats at the annual Hansberry Garden & Nature Center Plant Fair and Bake Sale on Saturday\, May 10\, 2025\, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Garden (5150 Wayne Avenue\, in Philadelphia’s Southwest Germantown). \nIn keeping with tradition\, the event will happen the day before Mother’s Day\, and it’s a great place to pick up some cut flowers at Megan’s Bouquet Bar\, a houseplant from Plant and People\, or a perennial\, herb or tomato seedling from Hansberry Garden volunteers. \nWeavers Way Farms will offer a wide variety of top-quality vegetable seedlings\, Basement Growing will offer numerous varieties of tomatoes and peppers (and a few eggplants)\, and St. Bernard Seedlings will focus on herbs and blooming annuals. \nAs always\, our talented home bakers will make sure you don’t go away hungry — and there are sure to be a few surprises! Don’t miss this annual Germantown event.
