SUMMARY:Mount Vernon Cemetery FOUNDER'S DAY TOUR & GREEN INFERNO VINE MAZE
DESCRIPTION:Who’s ready for a fine time amongst the vines! Philly’s first ever VINE MAZE! Brings new meaning to the term DEAD END!!\n\n\nOn Saturday August 23\, from 11:00am – 1pm and again from 1:30pm – 3:30pm\, come get (responsibly) lost in Mount Vernon Cemetery’s Green Inferno!! \nThis is a SUPER RARE chance to visit Mount Vernon Cemetery (MVC) during the height of its regrowth season – seriously\, we are never in here this time of year. As Darth Vader is more machine now than man\, during the summer\, MVC is more jungle than it is cemetery. You won’t believe what you can and cannot see inside this almost paradise: ivy-covered tombstones; lush meadows; groundhogs and deer running wild; angel statues popping out of tangled vines and GIANT MYSTERIOUS BALLS (no\, we’re not joking)!! \nOur event is a once-a-year opportunity to visit MVC during what we call\, the GREEN INFERNO. It also allows us to celebrate the birthday of one of our founders\, Jacob Monk (who will turn 120 on August 25!). This year’s first ever Founder’s Day event consists of a guided history tour that will stop at a number of newly revealed tombstones and plots. We will also be offering Philly’s first ever VINE MAZE – a specially curated and expertly mowed meandering path that gyre and gimble through the chest high vegetation. Imagine a hedge maze in the middle of the rainforest – that’s what you’re in store for!! Complete the tasks within and make it to the end to get special treats!! \nTICKETS ARE AVAILABLE FOR TWO TIME SLOTS \n11:00AM – 1:00PM AND 1:30-3:30PM \nPLEASE NOTE: For this event we are offering a Founder’s Day discount option. 20% off the purchase of 2 tickets ($24 instead of $30). Be sure to click on the 20% off option at checkout. ONE of those tickets reserves you 2 spots. \nCome see the Green Inferno for yourself and make your friends green with envy! \nThis tour is sponsored and conducted by members of the Friends of Mount Vernon Cemetery. \nContent warning/Reminders: \n\nPlease meet at MVC’s main gate. Located at the corner of Ridge and Lehigh Avenues.\nThe tour will be going offroad. Regardless of weather\, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable closed-toed shoes and long pants.\nIt is essential to arrive on time. Tour leaves at precisely 11 & 1:30. If you arrive late\, once the gate is closed and locked\, there is no coming back for you.\nAll visitors will need to sign an access waiver. Paperwork will be provided to you upon arrival.\nAll visitors are required to follow all rules and guidelines set forth by the Friends of Mount Vernon Cemetery. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in immediate expulsion from the grounds without refund.

SUMMARY:Twilight Tour at Mount Vernon Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:Come tour the cemetery at NIGHT! Hear stories of those buried here. Watch a spiritual rite of purification. Listen to amazing opera LIVE!\n\n\nReady yourself for a walk on the (literal) dark side of Mount Vernon Cemetery (MVC). Closed to the public for almost two decades\, on May 31 we open its gates for ONE NIGHT ONLY to venture on a unique journey through MVC’s overgrown grounds and mysterious past. \nRacing against the setting sun\, this adults-only early-evening tour showcases the more macabre aspects of MVC’s history; tales of murder\, suicide\, and hoodoo. Who knows who or even what we’ll find? Spoiler alert: Be prepared for the uncanny as MVC is covered in\, as the New York Post declared: “creepy stuffed animals that inexplicably appear overnight.” \nTo kick things off the right way\, our night begins with a LIVE MUSICAL performance in front of our incomparable GARDEL MONUMENT by Logan Laudenslager (soprano) and Kyle Chastulik (baritone/guitarist)\, members of the Philly chapter of OPERA ON TAP! \nOnce darkness falls\, we’ll switch on our flashlights and stumble through the pitch black of the night – seriously\, we have no electricity\, it gets crazy dark – to the center of the 28 acre property. There\, we’ll participate in an epic on-site spiritual rite of purification\, conducted by members of SOUTH STREET CIRCLE\, Philadelphia’s own Neo-Pagan ritual group. \nAnd who knows what else is in store? \nMaybe a Civil War-era ghost story? \nCookies? \nAnything can happen! \nIt’s a night like no other! You bring the flashlights. We’ll bring the good times!! \n \nThis tour is sponsored and conducted by members of the Friends of Mount Vernon Cemetery. \nContent warning/Reminders: \n\nMVC’s Twilight Tour will include discussions of an adult nature that may be distressing to some visitors. Topics include tales of murder\, suicide\, death\, and infant mortality via disease.\nThis tour is for ADULTS ONLY. Anyone under the age of 18 will be turned away.\nPlease meet at MVC’s main gate. Located at the corner of Ridge and Lehigh Avenues.\nThe tour will be going offroad. Regardless of weather\, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable closed-toed shoes and long pants.\nIt is essential to arrive on time. Tour leaves at precisely 6:40. If you arrive late\, once the gate is closed and locked\, there is no coming back for you.\nMVC is in a court-appointed conservatorship. As such\, all visitors will need to sign an access waiver. Paperwork will be provided to you upon arrival.\nAll visitors are required to follow all rules and guidelines set forth by the cemetery’s conservators and by the Friends of Mount Vernon Cemetery. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in immediate expulsion from the grounds without refund\, and you will be banned from participating in future MVC public events.
