DESCRIPTION:Help reforest 2.5 acres in Neshaminy State Park\, PA. Just north of Philadelphia.\nRemove invasive plants\, tend\, native trees and shrubs\n\n\nNeshaminy State Park Reforestation\nWe have ongoing volunteer opportunities tending this 2.2 acre area in Neshaminy State Park along the (River Trail). \n \nDates of volunteer events:\n(Spring/Fall 2025 Tree Tending)\n \n\nSaturday 4-5-25 9am-12pm\nSaturday 6-28-25 9am-12pm\nSaturday 7-5-25 9am-12pm\nSaturday 7-19-25 9am-12pm\nSaturday 8-2-25 9am-12pm\nSaturday 11-29-25 9am-12pm\n\n \nTo signup for volunteering\, please click “Select A Date”\n1236 Native Trees and Shrubs were planted in Neshaminy State Park from 2020-2022 by volunteers for Nonprofit Excel Events funded by Treevitalize and in Partnership with Keystone 10 Million Trees. \nThis is a Reforestation project remediating 2 acres covered by invasive plants back into native habitat. First we remove invasive plants then plant native trees and shrubs that can handle both drought and wet conditions. The funding came initially from a riparian buffer grant to help divert storm water in a priority flood zone. This will provide natural habitat for wildlife and migrating birds while native flowering shrubs feed pollinators and flowering native trees help feed other insects. \n \n\nMore about this project\nPhoto Gallery / History\n\nSpecies totals \nWe planted 961 Trees of 14 native to Pennsylvania species from 2020 to 2022. \n225 trees in 2020\, 325 trees in 2021 and 411 trees in 2022. \n275 Shrubs from 8 native berrying species were planted between 2020 and 2022. 100 shrubs in 2020\, 25 in 2021 and 125 more 2022. \nTrees: \n\n183 Sycamore\n150 River Birch\n130 Pin Oaks\n125 Tulip Poplar\n100 Paw Paw\n47 Swamp White Oak\n50 Sassafras\n20 Sweet Bay Magnolia\n25 Black Gum\n25 Black Willow Oak\n25 Red Oaks\n8 Red Buds\n6 Sweetgum\n5 White Pine\n\nShrubs: \n\n50 Elderberry\n50 Winterberry\n50 Black choke berry\n25 WitchHazel\n25 Red Choke Berry\n25 Grey dogwood\n25 Red Dogwood\n25 Spice Bush\n\n \nHistory and Progress of this project:\nWe continually need help tree tending the weeding 1236 Native Trees and Shrubs \nFirst\, in September 2020\, we planted 100 Native trees / 22 Native shrubs with a fancy metal cage and large tree riparian grant from Tree Vitalize. \nIn October 2020 we planted an additional 125 trees and 75 Shrubs from a different grant from 10 million trees in the 2nd phase of the project. \nIn Spring 2021\, in our the 3rd Phase of the Neshaminy State Park Reforestation Project we planted 125 nice larger trees in fancy deer protection metal cages from TreeVitalize. \nIn the 4th Phase also in the spring of 2021 we planted another 200 bare root trees (Sycamore \, Tulip Poplar) in Tubex from a different grant from Keystone 10 million trees. \nIn the 5th Phase in Spring of 2022 we planted 2 areas in Neshaminy State Park with an additional 655 trees. 30 larger trees for a separate grove funded by Excel Events while an additional 600 trees and shrubs were provided through our partner Keystone 10 Million Trees (Chesapeake Bay Foundation). \n\n\n* Project update 5-11-22\nOn Saturday 5-28-22 we are still planting trees and Shrubs. After this shipment\, we will have planted over 1200 trees and Shrubs in Neshaminy Sate Park. \nTrees \n\n50 Swamp White Oak\n25 Sweet Bay Magnolia\n\nShrubs \n\n50 Elderberry\n25 Red Choke Berry\n25 Spice Bush\n\n\n\n\n* Project Update 3-8-2022\nWe removed hundreds of trash bags of mile a minute raking preparing the Spring 2022 planting area. \nVideo and article: \nhttps://excelevents2.godaddysites.com/f/neshaminy-state-park-reforestation-spring-2022-trees-ordered \n\n\n\n* Project Update: (10-30-2021)\nCome join us planting another 125 native trees and berrying shrubs in the Spring of 2022. In February we need to clear the rest of the area by removing the Mile a Minute by raking the invasive into trash bags. Help make room for more trees and native shrubs on Earth Day weekend in our next season of planting which should fill in the rest of the invasive overrun area. \nFor a full article: \nNeshaminy State Park Reforestation Project Update \n\n\n\nProject Update (6-13-2021)\nAs of this past weekend 6-12 and 6-13\, we have finally completed our second grant season in Neshaminy State Park.  \nAn additional 16 volunteers helped install metal cages around the 5 foot nursery trees planted last month. \nWe removed all the mile a minute that had grown back in the area of these 100 trees. \nOver all we planted 130 nursery trees and 200 bare root trees this spring. (That is next to last years 300 trees planted in the summer of 2020.) \nMore Info Here: \nNeshaminy State Park Reforestation Spring 2021Project Complete as of (6-13-2021) \n\n\n\nProject Update (4-16-2021)\nOne Weekend of planting left this Spring 2021 \n130 trees 4-5 ft native trees planted in 2 weeks funded by Excel Events and a few Volunteer donations. \nIn progress\, 115 or 200 bare root trees from 10 Million Trees. \nArticle update: \nhttps://excelevents2.godaddysites.com/f/neshaminy-state-park-spring-2021-week-3 \nYoutube Video update: \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSzh3SwH13c&list=PLuJimFhun-y9cUo2xCAXQfs1FBz2dD9qz&index=2 \n\n\n\nProject Update 12-8-2020:\nWe are pursuing 2 grants for Spring 2021 in Neshaminy State Park. \nOne from Treevitalize and another grant from 10 million trees. \nWe are going to remove invasives then plant trees. \nhttps://excelevents2.godaddysites.com/f/neshaminy-state-park-spring-2021?fbclid=IwAR3Z0c4J537VIqDsLUixRIi9wbYjPjDXeZ28iTfOLfEMkpphm2CE4_uvO90 \n\n\n\n* Project Update: (10-27-2020)\nThanks to the hard work of 15 volunteers and funding from Chesapeake Bay Foundation and 10 Million trees we acquired 225 more native saplings and were able to plant 75 more trees and shrubs this past Saturday 10-24-2020 in Neshaminy State Park. \nFor a full article: \nNeshaminy State Park Reforestation Project Update \n\n\n\n* Project Update: (9-11-2020)\nUpdate This Labor day weekend Saturday 9-5-2020 and Sunday 9-6-2020\, volunteers planted 88 trees and 6 shrubs in Neshaminy State Park as part of a Treevitalize funded Raritan Grant. \nNote as of 12-16-2021: As a Keystone 10 Million Trees Partner\, Excel Events can now help facilitate the planting of free trees in Bucks County and Philadelphia. If you are a landowner and want to reforest your property\, we can help plant any project of 50 trees or more with Tubex deer protection and stakes. \n Find out more \nSpecies totals \nWe planted 961 Trees of 14 native to Pennsylvania species from 2020 to 2022. \n225 trees in 2020\, 325 trees in 2021 and 411 trees in 2022. \n275 Shrubs from 8 native berrying species were planted between 2020 and 2022. 100 shrubs in 2020\, 25 in 2021 and 125 more 2022. \nTrees: \n\n183 Sycamore \n150 River Birch\n130 Pin Oaks\n125 Tulip Poplar\n 100 Paw Paw\n 47 Swamp White Oak \n 50 Sassafras\n 20 Sweet Bay Magnolia\n 25 Black Gum\n 25 Black Willow Oak\n 25 Red Oaks\n 8 Red Buds\n 6 Sweetgum\n 5 White Pine\n\nShrubs: \n\n50 Elderberry\n50 Winterberry\n50 Black choke berry\n25 WitchHazel\n25 Red Choke Berry\n25 Grey dogwood\n25 Red Dogwood\n25 Spice Bush\n\nHistory and Progress of this project:\nWe continually need help tree tending the weeding 1236 Native Trees and Shrubs \nFirst\, in September 2020\, we planted 100 Native trees / 22 Native shrubs with a fancy metal cage and large tree riparian grant from Tree Vitalize.
