DESCRIPTION:Become a co‑creator of “Afro-Sankofa / In Flight”\, a new public artwork by Gary L. Moore at the Broad\, Germantown\, and Erie triangle.\n\n\nCreative Philadelphia invites you to a special community poetry workshop hosted by Kerry Kennedy\, creative partner to artist Gary L. Moore\, whose proposal “Afro‑Sankofa / In Flight” was recently approved for the Broad\, Germantown\, and Erie Percent for Art commission. \nThis workshop offers a rare opportunity for residents to help shape the language that will be incorporated into Moore’s upcoming public artworks—three coordinated pieces featuring mosaic planters\, mosaic bench seating\, and an iconic metal sculpture inspired by the Sankofa and the stories of Nicetown‑Tioga. \nParticipants will craft poetry rooted in the neighborhood’s history\, memories\, and future. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of two Black History Month exhibitions: “My Skin is Black” and “Counter Narratives” on view through April 24!\n\n\nCreative Philadelphia and Councilmember Nicolas O’Rourke are proud to present two new Art in City Hall exhibitions celebrating Black History Month. Join us for light refreshments and remarks during a special opening reception on February 20\, 5-7 p.m. \nMy Skin is Black\, curated by Debra Powell-Wright\, features19 Black women artists working in the mixed media fiber arts whose artwork focus on first-person narratives. \nCounter Narratives – Resistance and Resilience\, organized by the Sankofa Artisans Guild\, features 24 members of the collective whose artworks feature Black founding ancestors\, pathfinders\, and activists. \nArt in City Hall’s Black History Month exhibitions are on on view in Creative Philadelphia’s gallery (City Hall Room 116) and on the first\, second\, and fourth floor cooridors\, northeast corner through April 24\, 2026. \nPlease arrive early to go through security.
