SUMMARY:Interwoven by Agathe Bouton - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Agathe Bouton’s latest solo exhibition “Interwoven”.\n\n\nInterwoven explores the deep histories and shared traditions of textiles in Southeast Asia and Africa. Through her new series Les Bleus à l’Âme (Blues of the Soul)\, Bouton creates a textile-driven conversation\, weaving together personal experience\, cultural exchange\, and artistic experimentation. Inspired by her time in Myanmar\, Côte d’Ivoire\, and Senegal\, she reflects on the significance of indigo\, a color that transcends borders\, linking diverse weaving traditions and everyday rituals. \nBy cutting and weaving her monoprints into modular compositions\, Bouton blends contemporary techniques with echoes of traditional craftsmanship. Gold and silver leaf shimmer across her works\, evoking the gilded pagodas of Southeast Asia and the precious metals of African artistry. Her work is both a tribute to the women who preserve these centuries-old techniques and a call to appreciate the beauty of cultural diversity\, resilience\, and artistic heritage. \n \nOpening Reception:\nFriday\, May 9\, 6-8 p.m.\n \nMusic Performance\nwith Youba Cissokho:\n Sunday\, May 18\, 5-7 p.m \n\nClosing Reception + Artist Talk\n: Saturday\, May 31\, 6-8 p.m.\n \n \nMore events TBD\, check our website. \n\nchimaeragallery.com\n \n \n3502 Scotts Lane #2113\n \nPhiladelphia Pa 19129 \n\nhello@chimaeragallery.com

SUMMARY:Earth&Sky by Roberta Tucci - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition by Roberta Tucci\, inviting viewers into a vibrant world where the natural and celestial collide.\n\n\nChimaera Gallery presents EARTH&SKY\, a solo exhibition by Roberta Tucci\, inviting viewers into a vibrant world where the natural and celestial collide in a consonance of color and form. Known for her abstract interpretations of the world around her\, Tucci’s acrylic paintings draw inspiration from her deep\, meditative connection to the outdoors. This collection captures the dualities of nature — the solidity of the earth and the expansiveness of the sky — through a body of work that spans large and small canvases\, along with intricately painted constructions on shaped wood panels. \n \nIn EARTH&SKY\, earthly subjects such as marigold flowers and the flowing rhythms of river water come to life in bold\, energetic compositions. These grounded scenes are juxtaposed with Tucci’s skyward explorations\, where whimsical flight patterns of birds and the gradual dance of an eclipse infuse the works with a sense of movement and mysticism. Each painting offers an interplay between groundedness and the ethereal\, inviting viewers to experience a balance between the tangible and the transcendent. \nGallery Hours:\nSat. 12-4 p.m.\, or by appointment\n \n3502 Scotts Lane #2113 \n\nPhiladelphia\, PA 19129\n \n \nchimaeragallery.com\n \nhello@chimaeragallery.com

SUMMARY:Gradients of Growth by Deirdre Murphy - Closing Reception and Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Closing Reception of Deirdre Murphy’s solo exhibition “Gradients of Growth”\, with a talk by the artist.\n\n\nJoin us for the closing reception and artist talk celebrating Gradients of Growth\, a solo exhibition by Deirdre Murphy. This body of work explores the effects of the Anthropocene climate on tree cavity-nesting birds and East Coast pollinator species through vibrant paintings and detailed monoprints. Murphy draws inspiration from her residency at the Lower Merion Conservancy\, where the natural beauty of nest cavities inspired her unique “portal” views in her paintings. Additionally\, her monoprints\, informed by the Lehigh University Tremblay Herbarium collection\, emphasize the vital role herbariums play in climate change research. \n \nMurphy’s work reflects a message of ecological hope and environmental healing\, highlighting the importance of collective awareness and action in restoring balance to our warming planet. During the artist talk\, Murphy will share insights into her process and the significance of her environmental focus\, offering an inspiring perspective on how art can intersect with nature and science. \n \nDon’t miss this opportunity to engage with the artist and experience the closing of an exhibition dedicated to environmental advocacy and renewal. \n \nRefreshments will be served. All are welcome! \n \nAs part of this special event\, Dance theatre artists Lyra Butler-Denman and William Acker perform in response to Gradients of Growth. Their work was made during a week-long residency at Chimera Gallery immersed in Deirdre Murphy’s imagery and objects. The performance explores migration\, portals\, and Murphy’s focus on the ecologies of hope. \nTickets for the performance are pay what you can\, $20 suggested\, no one turned away for lack of funds. \nThis event is held in conjunction with the Closing Reception for Gradients of Growth.

SUMMARY:Recklessly Optimistic by Adrian Hatfield - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Adrian Hatfield makes work addressing his anxiety about our current environmental crisis\, balanced by hope that humanity can rise to meet the challenge. The paintings convey those experiences in tension: dread\, splendor\, joy\, terror\, wonder and the absurdity of human inaction. Their iconography samples and ?recombines elements from art history\, scientific illustration\, pop culture and satire\, with a goal of existing somewhere between a requiem\, a science fiction fever dream\, and a call-to-arms. \nOpening Reception: Saturday\, July 13\, 6-8:30 p.m. \nClosing Reception: Saturday\, August 31\, 6-8:30 p.m. \nGallery Hours: Saturdays 12-4 p.m.\, or by appointment \nchimaeragallery.com \nhello@chimaeragallery.com \n3502 Scotts Lane\, #2113 \nPhiladelphia\, PA 19129

SUMMARY:Ravel by Krista Dedrick-Lai - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition by Philadelphia-based artist Krista Dedrick-Lai. \nFebruary 10 – March 23\, 2024 \nRavel is an interesting word. A contranym. It can be both a noun and a verb. It can mean both tangle and untangle. And isn’t that how life can be sometimes? We find ourselves in a great big mess. And the more we try to tease the mess apart and get everything back in order\, the more jumbled it becomes. In the end there is no reweaving the unraveled tapestry\, not really. There is simply taking the threads you have at your feet and starting again.
