SUMMARY:Clay Play Open Studio Making
DESCRIPTION:Come out and touch some clay!\n\n\nThis is an open session clay making workshop. Each person will receive 1-2 pounds of clay per session and access to our basic tools and supplies. Pieces can be glazed with color and will be once fired and ready for pickup in 3-4 weeks. We will have limited colors available and suggest that you purchase your own Stroke and Coat glaze if you’d like consistent color and control. You’re welcome to bring any of your own tools. \nThe instructor leading your session will have a basic project that you can build if you aren’t working independantly. Some sessions will be more guided than others. \n \nFor most people we recommend that you can complete your piece in the 2 hour session\, leave it at the studio to dry and be fired for you. Alternatively you can come to this session\, take your piece home to finish and dry it fully\, then bring it back in the future to have it fired. We will have a clay artist on site that can answer technical questions and get you started with a project idea. \nAny unfinished clay pieces should go home with you. We will do our best to provide you with plastic and wrap enough to walk out with your piece so you can keep it moist enough to complete it and dry it ahead of firing. Please plan ahead if you know you were looking to make something complex that you’ll want to take home and continue working on.This is an ongoing workshop offering every month except through the Summer \n \nSuggested age is adults but ages 7+up can attend along with a paying adult. \n \nAbout your instructors: \nCassie Jones (pronouns: She/They) is the craft coven founder and lead organizer. She has her hands in most crafts but has a great passion for anything scultping. When running open studio you can expect a concentration on non-funtional applications and decorative projects. Currently working on staff at Black Hound Clay studio Cassie has also worked many years at Painting with a Twist in Philadelphia\, run a leather brand CUSP by Cassie\, is building a line of chain stitch embroidered patches\, as well as many other ventures since graduating from The Savannah College of Art and Design in 2010. \n \n(on teaching haitus until March while building houses in MOAB) \nClay artist Sea Star (pronouns: they/them and she/her) has been making sculptures with clay since they were 2 years old. The material has been a great exercise in play\, design\, and patience. Over the years\, they have harvested and processed unique clays from Maine to Tennessee to Puerto Rico. In 2022 Sea earned a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from MICA and currently works as a Glaze and Decoration Technician for a Philadelphia pottery manufacturer. \n \nAbout the space:This event is located in the Starr Garden Playground rec center. When you enter the gates for the playground you will walk to the right of the building to the entrance that is facing Lombard Street. The rec center is mostly used for after school programs and kids camps but is empty in the evenings so they allow us to have adult programming. You’re welcome to bring your own water bottle or snacks\, and there will be light music and a social studio atmosphere rather than a classroom. \nOrganized by The Craft Coven\, this event is part of a community oriented series of creative enrichment projects focused on affordability for all. For more information on the group’s missions and to get involved more widely check out https://www.TheCraftCoven.org and become a Member for all the inside opportunities and classes. If you woud like updates on pieces that are in the firing process please watch the IG account @CassiesCraftCoven for updates\, or email Info@TheCraftCoven.org with the date you attended.

SUMMARY:Feedback Forum
DESCRIPTION:Bring your artwork to share with a group of like minded creatives for honest and caring feedback. For artists of all levels and mediums\n\n\nJoin other members of The Craft Coven to discuss our work as a supportive and caring group of creatives. Presenting artists will be cut off at a maximum of 6 presenters so that we can provide a solid 15 minutes of feedback to each artist. Presenting artists will also receive a full recap of the feedback provided\, so no need to take notes during your 15 minutes of time. \nPRESENTING WILL START AT 4PM ON THE DOT. Please arrive early\, parking can be tough\, public transportation gets you almost to our front door. I’ll have the doors open by 3:30pm so come get settled in with a bevy before we start \nIf presenting: Please email any specifics about your work as soon as you sign up to: info@thecraftcoven.orgNote that these first few events will be held in the Coven studio and we can only accommodate smaller works. The ideal presenters will have 2 or 3 dimensional pieces that we can place on a 6 foot table for attendees to view from all sides. You are welcome to bring easles to setup on the table\, a table cloth is optional. We are not yet equipped for video work (a projector is coming soon!) Auditory/ musical work can be played if already uploaded to a website or played from an emailed file. Presented work must be able to setup and breakdown in 5 minutes or less between presenters. If you have a more complicated setup please email ahead of time and we will confirm whether or not we can accommodate. In the future we will be hosting these events at other locations and private studios. Please email with thoughts or questions info@thecraftcoven.org \nIf attending: Never been to a crit or similar event before? This is a great trial step for you! Feel free to come and just watch\, understand the format and come back with feedback for the next event. If you’re looking for a way to more thoughtfully talk about art in general- this is a first lesson for you\, and your host will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Please keep your comments to constructive and informative feedback rather than only personal likes and dislikes. For example instead of saying ‘I really like your painting\, and would definitely hang it in my home’ you could say ‘I’m drawn to the bright colors and representational forms. I hang mostly modern art in my home and this piece would fit right into the theme’Please don’t take up too much of the artists time with your feedback. SUMMARY:Polymer Play
DESCRIPTION:Learn the process of sculpting miniature with polymer clay. New projects each month!\n\n\nIn this beginner-friendly workshop\, you’ll be guided through the full process of designing\, shaping\, detailing\, and finishing a structured polymer clay project. Each session focuses on one specific piece — such as bag charms\, magnets\, earrings\, matchbooks\, bookmarks\, keychains\, or button sets — allowing you to create a cohesive and polished final product. \nPlanned Project Suggestions:March: Lucky Charms- Bag CharmApril: Custom Magnets May: Statement Earrings \nAll materials are included. No prior experience is necessary. When you arrive your clay will be portioned for you\, tools supplied\, and the instructor will walk you through all the steps required. This workshop is designed to be approachable for beginners while still offering room for personalization and creative expression. You’ll learn foundational techniques for shaping\, adding texture\, creating structure\, and finishing your piece. Depending on the project\, we’ll also cover simple assembly methods using basic hardware. Throughout the session\, your instructor will share insights into materials\, techniques\, and resources for anyone interested in continuing their clay practice at home — or you can simply come for a relaxed\, creative night out. \nCome with ideas\, or arrive ready to experiment. Either way\, you’ll leave with a finished piece you designed yourself. \nAbout your Instructor:Grace Larivee is a designer with a love for storytelling\, nostalgia\, and the details that make a space or brand feel alive. Her work blends tactile and digital elements\, drawing from environmental graphic design to create experiences that feel warm\, intentional\, and a little unexpected. Grace believes design should feel personal — like a well-loved notebook filled with sketches\, notes\, and inspiration — and aims to craft work that invites people in and leaves a lasting impression. \nAbout the Location:This event is located in the Starr Garden Playground rec center.
I’ll have the doors open by 3:30pm so come get settled in with a bevy before we start \nIf presenting: Please email any specifics about your work as soon as you sign up to info@thecraftcoven.orgNote that these first few events will be held in the Coven studio and we can only accommodate smaller works. It is most helpful for makers to hear a range of different opinions and thoughts so that they can best form their next steps based on the feedback that resonates best with their goals.
This class will focus on copper foiling and soldering with no glass cutting. You can choose your web color from a combo of clear\, black\, and white glass. We will be wrapping the piece in lead (not toxic to work with) and adding a hanger or metal stick. \nThis workshop is simple enough for beginners but it is not recommended for anyone without interest in learning. The session will involve educating you on all the steps\, using the tools\, and assembling a stained glass spider web with all glass pieces already cut out. This is essentially an instructed work session to make your own spider web\, and will take the entire workshop to complete your piece. We will have a 30 minute break during the workshop session and there are many local shops to grab a quick lunch to eat in the studio. In the event that you’d rather hang out and chat while working and you don’t finish your piece\, you can come back during our open studio hours (most Friday nights) to finish your piece. \nYou’ll choose the glass\, wrap your pieces\, and spend a lot of time with a personal solder to attach them together. This is a beginners project but is very involved. We will be working to wrap our glass and solder for most of the workshop. \nWhile working\, your instructor is happy to share all the best websites and shops to help guide you towards building your own stained glass studio. Come with questions if you’re looking to continue the glass journey\, or show up just for the experience. No previous knowledge necessary\, but you should be committed to doing the process if you are completely beginner. \nAbout the Location: The coven studio is located in the heart of Olde City in a below ground storefront. There are 10 steps down to get into the space\, and our ceilings are not very high. Anyone over 6’4″ will have watch their head until they have a seat. Any more questions about accessibility-please reach out! \nNote about Payment: If you would like to save yourself some dollars (eventbrite fees can really add up!) you can reach out directly for info on paying with Venmo or Paypal. If you’d liek to send money directly please email info@thecraftcoven.org and we will confirm there is still space and add you to the attendees after payment is sent.
