SUMMARY:Garden Building Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:Raised beds and raised awareness! Volunteer to build the new learning and market garden at the new county park in Southeast DelCo.\n\n\n \nVolunteer to build DelCo’s newest garden.\n \nJoin us for a hands-on volunteer day as we build a new garden at the county park in support of our two emerging programs\, Grow and Walk Delco and Gardeners Without Borders. Together\, we will construct raised garden beds that will serve as both an educational learning garden for community members and a youth-supported market garden producing fresh\, locally grown food for the farmers market. \n \nVolunteers will help assemble garden beds and prepare them for planting by filling them with soil and organic amendments—laying the groundwork for a thriving garden ecosystem that will nourish both people and place. This garden is an important step in increasing access to locally grown food in Southeast Delaware County\, strengthening regional food systems\, and reconnecting communities with the sources of what they eat. \n\n\n\nAll ages are invited to build the new garden beds!\n \nThis volunteer day will be hosted in collaboration with youth participating in the Gardeners Without Borders program\, offering an opportunity for intergenerational learning and shared stewardship. Together\, we are planting more than seeds—we are cultivating connection\, care for the land\, and pathways to long-term community wellness. \n\n\n\nBeyond food production\, the creation of an organic garden contributes to the health of our shared watershed. Healthy soil supports water absorption\, reduces runoff\, and helps restore ecological balance in our local environment. Just as importantly\, time spent outdoors—touching soil\, breathing fresh air\, and working alongside neighbors—has meaningful benefits for physical health\, mental wellbeing\, and a sense of belonging. \n \nThrough this volunteer project\, we will all act as environmental and community stewards\, tending to the soil that nourishes the natural world and our place in it. \n\n\nRefreshments provided. \n \nBYOB…water bottle that is!\nIn being good stewards of our planet\, we will not be providing individual plastic water bottles\, although water will be available. \nIf you don’t have water bottles\, we will have Black Girls With Green Thumbs water bottles available for sale.

SUMMARY:Earth Day at the Library
DESCRIPTION:Raised beds and raised awareness! Volunteer to clean up the West Oak Lane Library garden and do some early Spring planting.\n\n\n \n \nEarth Day is Everyday!\n \nVolunteer to prepare the West Oak Lane Library garden for the 2026 growing season. \n \nUrban gardens provide a wide range of benefits for the people who tend them and the communities they nourish. These productive green spaces support climate resiliency\, a healthier environment\, and health & wellness. Urban gardens like the one at the West Oak Lane Library are an integral part of a healthy neighborhood providing an avenue for food sovereignty. \n\n\n\nAll ages are invited to help prepare the West Oak Lane Library garden for the 2026 growing season!\n \nEarly Spring is an ideal time to prepare the garden for a season of successful growing. Volunteers will help refresh the garden at the West Oak Lane Library by building new garden beds\, removing weeds\, replenish soil nutrients\, loosen the soil and more! \nImproving soil health by increasing its organic matter (by introducing compost or adopting no-till methods) is critical. The United States is losing soil 10xs faster than it is replenished. Philadelphia has lost much of the organic matter\, minerals\, sand and clay that make up natural soil due to hundreds of years of urban development. Beneath our feet is lots of “rubble\, debris and the history of the city”. \n \nThrough this volunteer project\, we will all act as environmental and community stewards\, tending to the soil that nourishes the natural world and our place in it. \n\n\n\nRefreshments provided.

Volunteer to clean up the West Oak Lane Library garden and some early Spring planting.\n\n\nEarth Day is Everyday!\n \nVolunteer to prepare the West Oak Lane Library garden for the 2025 growing season. \n\n\n\nAll ages are invited to help prepare the West Oak Lane Library garden for the 2025 growing season!\n \nEarly Spring is an ideal time to prepare the garden for a season of successful growing. \n \nBYOB…water bottle that is!\nIn being good stewards of our planet\, we will not be providing individual plastic water bottles\, although water will be available. \nIf you don’t have water bottles\, we will have Black Girls With Green Thumbs water bottles available for sale.
