SUMMARY:Winter Gulls at Glen Foerd with BirdPhilly
DESCRIPTION:Last chance to see some wintering gulls in Philly!\n\n\nGlen Foerd mansion sits along the Delaware River in the northeastern-most corner of Philly and is one of the best places in the city to study gulls during the winter. While there is no guarantee\, we are hoping to see a rare gull such as Iceland or Glaucous Gull. There should also be a good amount of waterfowl out on the river and we can discuss how to distinguish Double-crested Cormorants from the Great Cormorants that visit the area in winter. \nWe plan this as a stationary event overlooking the river\, but if folks want\, we can also explore the parkland surrounding the mansion. Please dress according to the expected weather. We will meet at 10.30 am at the flagpole along the river. Folks can join at any point during the event. \nThere is limited parking on-site and along the surrounding roads so please share a ride if you can. The location is also reachable by bus lines 19 and 84. The Torresdale regional rail station is a 15 min walk away. \nNo binoculars? No worries! Birding backpacks with binoculars and field guides are on loan at all Philly Free Library branches. \nFor questions\, please reach out to birdphillywalks@gmail.com.
