More info + RSVP. \nHUNTING PARK HUSTLE:\nJoin the Bicycle Coalition for a day of family-friendly fun in Hunting Park! SUMMARY:Safe Streets Statewide Advocacy Call
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \n\n\nJoin Bicycle Coalition Policy Director Julio Rodriguez on April 30th for a virtual call about Parking Protected Bike Lanes (PPB)\, Jay Alert Pilot\, Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA)\, and our upcoming advocacy day in Harrisburg\, PA\, June 9\, 2026. A link to the Zoom Meeting will be provided with your registration email. \nThere are only 15 Parking Protected Bike Lanes in Philadelphia as a result of a pilot BCGP advocated for with OTIS and PennDOT in 2017. Passing the PPB would give municipalities in Pennsylvania the ability to install PPB\, which would result in more Parking Protected Bike Lanes. \nThe Jay Alert Pilot would create a notification system in Philadelphia where autobody shops would receive details of vehicles involved in a hit and run. In 2026\, 29 people have lost their lives to traffic violence\, four of which were hit and runs. \nSpeed kills: One of Ten People survive if they are hit at 40mph\, whereas nine of ten people survive if they’re hit at 20mph. The Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) program would offer an alternative for drivers facing license suspension for excessive driving by installing a device limiting speed on their vehicle in lieu of driver suspension. Here is a video of how this policy is working in Virgina.

SUMMARY:World Day of Remembrance Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:Remember. Support. Act. \n\n\nThe World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is a global event held every third Sunday of November to honor those who have lost their lives or been impacted by roadway crashes. This year on November 16\, communities across the globe\, including several dozen in the United States\, will gather together to demand actions towards improving roadway safety and to uplift proven strategies\, including redesigning dangerous roads\, reducing speed limits\, and improving vehicle design. \nWe will hear from local elected officials\, city staff\, community leaders\, and families who have lost their loved ones to traffic violence. \nSlowing Down Saves Lives. With the recent expansion of the Automated Speed Cameras to 5 new corridors\, more communities will benefit from slower speeds along roads like Broad St. However\, because the legislation only allowed for 5 additional corridors\, roads like Lehigh Avenue are missing out on life saving enforcement technology. We will remember the 109 people lost in Philadelphia since last November\, talk about solutions that could save more lives around Fairhill Square Park\, improve the livability of the neighborhood\, and allow the already vibrant area to thrive. \n11 am press conference followed by lunch at 12 pm.

SUMMARY:Remembering Billy McWilliams: Ghost Bike Dedication
DESCRIPTION:Billy McWilliams had the biggest heart and loved riding his bike\, playing video games\, playing sports\, hanging out with his friends and family\, and overall just being outside. He had the biggest smile that lit up any room he walked into. His energy was vibrant and warm\, he made everyone around him comfortable and happy\, and his laugh was contagious. He is forever loved and missed more than words could ever describe.\nBilly McWilliams was 16 when he was hit and killed by a hit and run driver on July 28th\, 2023. The intersection where Billy was killed lacked protected bike infrastructure and because of the proximity to the highway\, the roadway design encourages the driver to go so fast that when they hit McWilliams\, the 16 year old was flung 200 feet away from the site of the crash.\nPlease join the McWilliams family to remember Billy as we set up a ghost bike in his memory.\nAt 2pm on 3/29th we will place a bike at the corner of Byberry Rd. and Woodhaven Rd. near 3380 Byberry Rd.

SUMMARY:SPEAK UP for Parking-Protected Bike Lanes
DESCRIPTION:SPEAK UP for Parking-Protected Bike Lanes\n\nWhat do we want? Parking-protected bike lanes!\nWhen do want them? NOW!\n\nJoin the Bicycle Coalition and Families for Safe Streets Greater Philadelphia as we head back to Harrisburg on Tuesday\, June 4th to talk to elected officials about the benefits of Parking Protected Bike Lanes and why it’s urgent they be legalized across the commonwealth.\nCurrently\, PennDOT does not allow for the installation of parking-separated bike lanes on state-owned roads. Amending state legislation is an issue that the Bicycle Coalition\, the City of Philadelphia\, and our partners have been working on since the 2017-2018 legislative session. As an interim solution\, PennDOT has permitted a pilot program to demonstrate protected bike lanes on selected state roads in Philadelphia. An interim solution is not enough — we need this program to be made permanent.\nJoin us in calling on our state legislators to save lives by passing HB1283.\nAdditional information & sign-up available here.\nIf you can’t attend on June 4th\, you can still SPEAK UP — send a letter to your state legislators using our easy template: bit.ly/yes2ppbl
