DESCRIPTION:This fall\, Awbury’s AdventureWoods is the place to be for hands-on outdoor fun! Children ages 8–11 can join Intro to Archery & Wilderness Survival on Thursdays\, Sept 25–Oct 30\, 2025\, from 4–6 PM\, where they’ll learn the basics of archery\, try their hand at carving\, cook over a campfire\, and practice core survival skills like foraging\, knot-tying\, shelter-building\, and first aid. For older adventurers ages 11–15\, the Intermediate Wilderness Survival program runs Tuesdays\, Sept 23–Oct 28\, 2025\, from 4–6 PM\, taking things to the next level with advanced archery drills\, tool carving\, matchless fire-starting\, cooking\, and more complex survival challenges. Both 6-week sessions meet at AdventureWoods\, 6060 Ardleigh St.\, and cost $150 ($140 for Member Families)\, with space limited to 16 participants per group.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Awbury Arboretums Francis Cope House on Wednesday June\, 19th from 5:00pm – 8:00pm to celebrate the legacy of Juneteenth! \nCome celebrate and learn about the history of Juneteenth and the continued fight for liberation. The evening will consist of a Q&A led by Germantown Infohub’s Rasheed Ajamu with speakers Gwen Ragsdale of the Lest We Forget Slavery Museum\, journalist Cassie Owens\, and Juneteenth Festival Founder Cornelia Swinson! Following the talk\, Chef Gail will provide a delicious meal inspired by the Juneteenth era infused with a rich history of Black culture! And to close out the evening\, multi-dimensional jazz musician Koof Ibi will serenade guests with Jazz renditions taken from both past and present! \nWe hope you’ll join us for an evening honoring the important legacy of Juneteenth!

SUMMARY:Black History: Resistance\, Renewal\, Resiliency – Goat Walk and the Harriet Tubman Living History Experience
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Black History Month\nwith a dynamic afternoon at Awbury Arboretum presented by Awbury\, The Philly Goat Project\, and Black and Planted\, and sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Africana Studies. \nRegistration is now FULL for the speaker and planting activity\, but all are welcome to attend the goat walks – no registration required! \n\n\n\n\nDetailed Schedule:\n\n\n\n\nOPEN – NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED\n1:00PM – 1:30PM – Goat Walks at the Cope House – The Philly Goat Project goats will be available for walks around the Cope House\, story book reading\, goat cuddles and fun. \n\n\n\n1:30PM – 2:30PM – The Harriet Tubman Living History Experience – Millicent Sparks\, Actor\, Writer and CEO of Millicent Sparks Productions\, Inc. will present her portrayal of Harriet Tubman. \n\n\n\n\n2:30PM – 3:00PM Microgreens Workshop – Black and Planted will lead a mini-workshop about healthy greens. Participants will have the opportunity to plant and take home their own microgreens.

SUMMARY:Wild Wisdom: a multi-season\, hands-on foraging series
DESCRIPTION:Wild Wisdom is a program designed to introduce participants to some of the most common\, under-utilized\, wild edible\, medicinal\, and craft plants of the Philadelphia bio-region\, the ancestral homeland of the Lenape / Wingohocking.\n\nIn 2023\, Wild Wisdom is being offered in a new model of as 4\, 3-hour workshops representing each season’s bountiful harvest: spring\, summer\, fall\, and winter. Each class can be taken as an independent one-off class or discounted as a 4-part series.\n\nEach monthly 3-hour class will include in-class and in-field time to botanically I.D.\, gather\, and harvest useful plants with in-depth sharing on plants’ ecological\, nutritional\, medicinal\, and cross-cultural usage\, as well as hands-on time to prepare some of the plants to sample and for participants to take home.\n\n\nRegistration for the full 4-season Wild Wisdom 2023 is full.
