SUMMARY:Root Song – World Premiere I Performance
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nPremiering at Bartram’s Garden\, Root Song blends live vocal chamber music by Roomful of Teeth—an eight-voice “singing forest”—with Indigenous storytelling by Tchin\, transforming the unseen realities of the woodland into a musical conversation.  \nInspired by ground-breaking research on the connection and communication of trees and rooted in Indigenous Knowledge\, Root Song explores the mysteries of our interconnected natural world. Presented by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and directed by Jazimina Creamer-MacNeil\, the work is composed by Christopher Theofanidis with a libretto by Melissa Studdard. \nThis is the first of two identical performances at the Garden\, the second taking place on May 31. \nNATURE WALK – Forest ecologist Suzanne Simard will lead a nature walk at Bartram’s Garden before the performance\, from 6:30-7:10 PM. \n TICKETS – Root Song concert tickets are $35. A limited number of $2 tickets are available on a first-come\, first-served basis to Southwest Philadelphia neighbors as well as all ACCESS cardholders. ACCESS tickets will be available for sale starting on May 1. Directions\, parking\, and shuttle information will be provided to ticket holders. DESCRIPTION:Join the Heartwood Trio for an all-ages\, participatory journey through story and song. The Well Tree is a three-person musical\, illustrated with a ‘crankie’—an illuminated\, papercut\, hand-cranked scroll. It is an original ‘singing story’ about a young woman moving beyond the fog of isolation and shame to meet songbirds\, snails\, and ancient trees as she finds her way home. \nTICKETS – Tickets are FREE and seating is limited. DESCRIPTION:Guided by Robin Wall Kimmerer and We Are the Seeds of CultureTrust\, participants will learn about the wisdom and ecology of several native plants\, with the opportunity to plant these seeds in a shared act of restoration—nurturing seedlings at home that may later be returned to an Indigenous Listening Garden. This event is supported by Plant Baby Plant.
