SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Cavin Jones
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, September 26\, 2026 at 2 PM in the Art Department for a talk by Philadelphia artist Cavin Jones. \nCavin Jones is a painter\, muralist\, and collagist whose figurative work is inspired by American history\, particularly the African American experience. Jones has said that his work is “a catalyst to stimulate thought and promote discussion about various issues prevalent in society.” His dynamic compositions often feature contrasting elements that as he says\, “infuse the paintings with layers of meaning and associations.” \nCavin will talk about his art journey\, including his public mural work. After the talk in the Art Department\, we’ll visit the Print and Picture Collection to view the original drawings for Cavin’s reimagined Alice in Wonderland. Cavin will have copies of his books available for purchase.

The Art Department and Special Collections invite you to come by the library with supplies that you no longer want or need and pick up something else in exchange. You do not need to bring materials to take something. \nJoin us at Parkway Central in the Heim Center room 131/132 from 1:00 – 3:30 PM. This event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Join artist Natasha Guy for a workshop that will use collage as a way to explore historical images. \n2026 marks not just the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence\, but also the 200th anniversary of photography. In honor of these celebrations\, participants will use historical images from the Print and Picture Collection to compose a collage and discuss what they’ve made as a group\, exploring topics like how a city pictures itself\, how photographs build collective memory\, and the ways that history can be reopened through collage. The workshop will be held in the Art Department at Parkway Central Library and will run from 5 pm to 7:30 pm.
