Then this tour is for you.\n\n\nTheme: WHAT IS\, WAS\, and NEVER WAS. \nMeet inside 30th Street Station at the angel statue on the east side of the main hall. Bathrooms are nearby. Event lasts roughly 2 hours. Begins at 30th Street Amtrak Station\, ends at 69th Street Terminal. \nLove exploring subway history? Then this tour is for you. \nAfter meeting at the angel statue\, we will walk outside the station to understand the reason for submerging the original elevated structure back in the 1950s. After riding the underground trolley eastbound\, we see where the El originally circled City Hall. Continuing on the Market-Frankford Subway/El east\, we emerge from the subway at Spring Garden Station and learn about the elevated line that went directly to Penn’s Landing 100 years ago. Returning west\, we end at the enormous\, multi-modal 69th Street Terminal filled with subways\, trolleys\, buses\, and interurbans. \nGuide Jerry Silverman was born to give this tour. Then join longtime Wissahickon steward David Bower and his dedicated team of Crew Leaders and Trail Ambassadors for a variety of stewardship projects!\nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities:\n• Plantings: bending over\, crouching/squatting\, carrying up to 20 lbs\n• Invasive plant removal: bending over\, using long handled tools\n• Litter clean-up\n• Graffiti removal\n• Repetitive motions\nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! DESCRIPTION:Philadelphia Folksong Society presents the 2nd Annual Gene Shay/Founders’ Awards Benefit Concert. We will be honoring David Bromberg\, “the Godfather of Americana\,” along with Folk Legend Tom Rush! It is happening on the evening of Tuesday\, March 11\, 2025 at The Colonial Theatre\, 227 Bridge Street in Phoenixville. Tickets on sale now at: https://pfs.org/geneshay \nThe musical acts for the evening include Jay Ungar & Molly Mason (perhaps best known for Ashokan Farewell from Ken Burns’ Civil War series)\, the wonderful Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams\, and yes\, Tom Rush! In lieu of a performance by David Bromberg\, the night will feature a musical tribute to his iconic catalogue. \nIn addition to presenting our two Founders’ Awards to David Bromberg & Tom Rush for their lifetime musical achievements\, the Society will present our Gene Shay Awards to two Folk Festival volunteers\, Mike Flagg and the late Ellen Superfine\, the Folk Festival’s Wonder Woman\, for their long and dedicated service. DESCRIPTION:** Registration is limited for this event. Please only register if you feel sure you will come and please cancel your ticket if you are no longer coming**\nIt’s that time of year again when Mycopolitan treats us to the only mushrooms to be found in winter in the greater Philly region!🙏🔔🍄 \nJoin Mycopolitan Mushroom Farmers for a tour of their facilities. You’ll see first-hand the basics of mushroom farming: substrate prep\, sterilization\, inoculation\, incubation\, and harvest. Have your burning mushroom questions answered! After the tour there will be an opportunity to purchase grow kits\, plug spawn\, lions mane\, shiitake\, and many more fresh mushrooms. \nIf you are unable to attend to on the 11th another tour of the farm will be held on Thursday\, March 20th @ 6:30 – 8 PM. If you or another member of your party end up not being able to attend after you have registered for a ticket please cancel said reservation(s) or let us know\, so we can mush lovingly pass them on to someone else. \nAlso please do not come unregistered! We have to respect our fungi farm friends’  facilities LIMITED SPACE. \nThe entrance for this event is around the side of the building on D street\, at the end of the dead end. There are 2 SEPTA buses that stop at the cross street of the facility for folks who are unable to drive. The parking is limited for the facility\, but there is ample off street parking across Erie Ave. If you have extra space and are willing to take a fellow mycophile\, please consider signing up to carpool. \nThis event and others like it are free for everyone.
