During the Herbal Aid Ed course\, students will care and support those garden beds over the 9-month course of study. \nThe program covers an introduction to 40+ plants from a range of cross-cultural traditions. Each class includes hands-on time in the Many Hands Community Apothecary garden on site at Awbury Arboretum where we will cover various growing methods\, seasonal medicine processing methods including infusions\, decoctions\, tinctures\, salves\, incense\, powders\, and more! \nThe program hosts ongoing opportunities for wider community engagement during garden volunteer days and medicine making sessions. By the end of the course\, students will walk away with medicines they’ve made\, which include extras for them to share through community distribution days\, and a deep knowledge of the power of plant medicine and aid. DESCRIPTION:An introduction to Screenprinting at the Soapbox Community Print Shop & Zine Library in West Philadelphia.\n\n\nAbout this Event \nIn this beginning course you will learn the basics of screenprinting. Participants will bring a prepared image and we will provide all the materials\, tools and training. Learn the protocol of our printshop and darkroom\, as well as health and safety standards for screenprinting. Turn your one-color image into a screen and print an edition of posters\, greeting cards or even t-shirts! With the completion of this beginner course\, students will be prepared to take more specialized\, intermediate courses. Students may also choose to take this beginner course again with a personalized emphasis on multilayer printing. Our classroom environment is welcoming to all skill levels and we strive to make our shop accessible to new and experienced printers alike. A materials fee covers paper\, ink\, use of a screen\, and other consumables. Starting at Germantown Avenue\, we’ll see the ruins of the barn of Buttercup Cottage and where Lake Surprise once was. We’ll take note of what some of our favorite and least favorite plants look like in late autumn as we hike ~4-4.25 miles. We’ll be sure to point out two interesting tulip trees on our route! Some of the trails are rocky\, so come prepared in sturdy\, close-toed shoes.\nChildren 12 years of age and older are welcome to attend when accompanied by an adult\, but please\, no dogs except for service animals.\nDistance: 4-4.25 miles\nLevel: Difficult (many inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Start your Friday off right with a brisk\, one-hour hike through Tyler’s gardens and natural areas beyond the deer exclusion fence. This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout\, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However\, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers. Be prepared for a mix of asphalt\, gravel and natural surfaces. Hikes are not suitable for those with limited mobility. We recommend bringing along a reusable water bottle.
