SUMMARY:Profs & Pints Philadelphia: America's Erotic Past
DESCRIPTION:Profs and Pints Philadelphia presents: “America’s Erotic Past\,” a journey back through surprisingly queer and kinky centuries\, with Rebecca Davis\, professor of history and of women and gender studies at the University of Delaware and author of the acclaimed book Fierce Desires: A New History of Sex and Sexuality. \nWhen Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring the existence of two biological sexes\, he not only was putting his stamp on scientific errors\, he also was contravening four centuries of American history. \nWe might assume that we live with a “puritan” legacy of repression. But America’s sexual history is full of gender-bending rebels\, passionate queer lovers\, and convention-defying radicals. \nJoin Dr. Rebecca Davis\, the award-winning author of a definitive new history of sexuality in America\, for a look at our nation’s complex sexual past and realities that get in the way of the Trump administration’s calls to delete any mention of “gender\,” “queer\,” and “transgender” from federal websites and historical markers. \nShe’ll bring to light the fascinating people\, surprising intimacies\, and iconic moments that illuminate this country’s erotic past\, showing that the history that the administration wants to erase is too unpredictable—and its legacy too durable—to be undone by any executive order. \nAmong the things you’ll learn: What happened when a gender nonconforming servant shared a bed with an unmarried woman in the Virginia colony in the 1620s. How nineteenth-century Americans responded to same-sex intimacies. And what\, exactly\, was going on in Betty Dodson’s living room during her all-nude “Bodysex” workshops in the 1970s. \nPrepare to be surprised by what happened behind the bedroom doors of yesteryear. (Advance tickets: $13.50 plus processing fees. Doors: $17\, or $15 with a student ID. Doors open at 3:30 pm. Talk starts at 4:30.)

SUMMARY:TERRA: Bodies and Territories
DESCRIPTION:The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education presents TERRA: Bodies and Territories\, an immersive performance staged outdoors on forested land. This innovative theatrical work is the creation of Silvana Cardell\, an acclaimed choreographer whose work contends with social struggles. TERRA: Bodies and Territories confronts the profound shared vulnerabilities between women’s bodies and the natural environment. In this highly experimental work\, a multi-generational ensemble of women and femme dancers enact a sequence of symbolic narratives.\nComposer Devin Arne amplifies the drama of the forest with a sound score that blends field recordings and musical instrumentation. Sculptural set pieces by visual artist Sarah Kavage and costumes by Vasi Zivanic visually complement the natural environment\, the dancers’ movements\, and Cardell’s conceptual themes.\nTERRA will be performed outdoors on June 13\,  20\, 21\, 22\, 28 and 29. Online ticket sales will close at noon on the date of the performance. Unless the show is sold out\, tickets will be sold at the door.\nPurchase Tickets\nPerformance Space\nTERRA is performed outdoors in a forested space with open seating. Please arrive a half hour before showtime for check in and to walk to the performance site. Audience members are invited to sit on natural log “seats” and stand or move freely in the performance space. Audience members can bring a blanket or a camping chair if desired. If you need assistance with accommodations due to mobility limitations or if you require guaranteed seating\, please check “yes” on the registration form when you purchase tickets. In case of severe weather\, ticket holders will be contacted via email about rescheduled performances.\nClick here for a PDF of what to expect when you attend TERRA: Bodies & Territories at the Schuylkill Center. \nGetting to the Schuylkill Center\nThe Schuylkill Center is located in Upper Roxborough\, Northwest Philadelphia\, at 8480 Hagy’s Mill Road\, Philadelphia\, PA 19128. There is a parking lot and Visitor Center and restrooms on site. Please see our Directions and Maps page for information about getting here via car\, bus\, train\, or bike.\nOn June 15 and 21 a shuttle service is available to the Schuylkill Center from Taller Puertorriqueno (2600 N 5th St\, Philadelphia\, PA 19133) and from the corner of Ridge Ave and Port Royal Ave. For more information about shuttle service\, check the indicated box when you purchase tickets.\nSupport for TERRA\nMajor support for TERRA has been provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage\, with additional support from Georgian Court University\, and the 2025 Creative Sector Flex Fund\, a program by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

SUMMARY:Self Care Sundays
DESCRIPTION:Black Lotus Holistic Health Collective presents Self Care Sundays with meditation and yoga classes.\n\n\nWelcome to Self Care Sundays! Join us on Sundays at 11:00 AM for some time dedicated to self-care and relaxation. This event will take place at Black Lotus HHC at 206 Rittenhousetown Lane\, where you can unwind and focus on yourself. \nTake part in yoga sessions\, meditation exercises\, and mindfulness activities to rejuvenate your mind and body. Treat yourself to healthy snacks and refreshments while connecting with like-minded individuals. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to prioritize your well-being and practice self-love. See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane.
Sculptural set pieces by visual artist Sarah Kavage and costumes by Vasi Zivanic visually complement the natural environment\, the dancers’ movements\, and Cardell’s conceptual themes.\nThis is a rain-date performance rescheduled from Saturday\, June 14. Tickets purchased on June 14 are automatically transferred to this date. Tickets are also available to the general public. SUMMARY:Death & Life at Mt. Moriah Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:Mount Moriah is the largest cemetery in Pennsylvania\, and home to some of our city’s finest grave architecture.\n\n\nMount Moriah is the largest cemetery in Pennsylvania\, and home to some of our city’s finest grave architecture. Trees and vines have engulfed the gravestones in some areas\, giving the place the atmosphere of a lost city in the jungle. Almost every style of tomb can be found here\, from Egyptian Revival to Art Nouveau. Guests will learn about the role of cemeteries as a place for leisure in the Victorian era\, as well as the influence of the Freemasons. Part wilderness and part sculpture-garden\, this city of the dead is by turns eerie and poignant. Join Hidden City as we peel back the canopy and reveal the wonders below. \n \nIMPORTANT DETAILS \nWe’ll meet at the main gate\, where Kingsessing dead-ends at 62nd Street.***If you’re using Google Maps type in 6191 Kingsessing Avenue*** \nThis tour requires significant walking\, so practical shoes and water are a must. There are plenty of ticks\, especially as the weather warms\, so we recommend long pants\, socks\, and most of all a careful check of oneself after the tour is over. \nTour guide John Vidumsky has been exploring abandoned spaces for as long as he can remember. He has an MA in history from Temple University\, where he studied 20th-century Russian history. John was Hidden City’s first intern! \nHidden City Members\, remember to use your promo codes for discounts! \nQuestions\, concerns\, conundrums?
