SUMMARY:TIMELINE
DESCRIPTION:Philadelphia Sculptors\, in partnership with Women for Greater Philadelphia\, announces the outdoor sculpture exhibition TIMELINE at historic Laurel Hill Mansion in East Fairmount Park. The show opens with a free public reception on Friday\, July 18\, 2025\, from 6-8 pm. \nTIMELINE is a dynamic group exhibit that offers a wide-ranging look at the Laurel Hill site and its layered history along the Schuylkill River. Artists\, selected by jurors Nancy Agati and Rachel Zimmerman\, proposed works that respond to the complex timeline of the property\, the mansion itself\, and the many individuals who have lived on\, cared for\, and shaped the land. Laurel Hill Mansion sits on lands that were inhabited for millennia by the Lenni Lenape. \nThe land was acquired by William Penn in 1682\, and the mansion\, built in 1767\, has undergone numerous changes in structure\, ownership\, and use\, from the colonial era to the present. With a focus on the past\, several works in the exhibition address aspects of women’s rights to property\, labor and farming\, trade and commerce\, slavery\, and the abolitionist movement. Artists have engaged with broader themes\, creating works that integrate and connect contemporary viewpoints with historical concepts\, including the passage of time\, displacement\, resilience\, stewardship\, and our human relationship to the land. \nThe property is currently managed by the nonprofit organization Women for Greater Philadelphia. This exhibition marks the kickoff for the series of events at Laurel Hill Mansion that will celebrate the nation’s Semiquincentennial in 2026. \nParticipating artists: Laura Frazure\, Peggy Hartzell\, Brenda Howell\, Sam Horowitz\, Carole Loeffler\, Linda Lorrie Gross\, Jessica Mungekar\, carrie R\, Holly Smith\, Simone Spicer\, Julia Way\, Marisa Williamson. \nExhibition Dates: July 18 – October 17\, 2025\nOpening Reception: Friday\, July 18th\, 6 – 8 pm\nSite hours: Thursdays – Sundays\, 10 am – 4 pm\nLocation: Laurel Hill Mansion\, 3487 Edgley Drive\, East Fairmount Park\, Philadelphia

SUMMARY:Summer Fridays in the Field
DESCRIPTION:Practice your scientific skills of observation\, identification\, and questioning with local flora and fauna in the Wagner’s Teaching Garden!\n\n\nExplore your local ecosystem this summer at the Wagner’s Fridays in the Field! Beginning June 20th\, the Wagner Teaching Garden will be open for independent educational exploration every Friday from 1 – 3:30pm. \nThe Wagner’s Teaching Garden is our most valuable classroom. Not only is our green space full of pollinator gardens\, but it is also a certified Wildlife Habitat\, Bird Habitat\, and Monarch Waystation—our milkweed plants provide valuable nutrients for Monarch butterflies during their cross continental migration. \nVisitors of all ages may borrow hand lenses for close observation of our urban ecosystem\, use nature guides to help identify the different animals\, trees\, and rocks found in our yard\, or take time to relax in the shade and draw from nature. Wagner staff will be available to facilitate use of materials\, but Fridays in the Field is a mostly unguided opportunity to experience the Wagner Teaching Garden. \nVisitors looking to attend Fridays in the Field must enter the museum through the front entrance on Montgomery street and check in with the front desk. Visitors who walk-in and visitors who preregister\, here or through the 2025 Visit the Wagner Eventbrite\, will have full access to the museum and access to the yard from 1pm – 3:30pm on Fridays. \n \nThings to Know Before Your Visit\n• Walk-in visitors are welcome. Advance registration is appreciated and will speed up your entry to the museum. \n• There is no coat check or place to stow personal items – please travel light. \n• The museum is located on the second floor of the building. There are 5 steps at the entryway and a flight of stairs to access the museum. It is not wheelchair accessible. \n• To protect the specimens and our historic interiors\, photography is not allowed in the museum. Open containers of food and drink are not permitted in the building. \n•The Institute does not have a parking lot. Street parking on Montgomery Avenue and 17th Street is free. There is 2-hour free parking on Bouvier Street and on many blocks near the Wagner and metered parking on Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The nearest parking garage is at the Liacouras Center on 15th Street and Montgomery Avenue. \n \nA dream that keeps growing… \nIn 1855\, William Wagner had a dream of providing free science education to anyone who wanted to learn\, regardless of background or ability to pay. Today\, the Wagner offers more programs to more people than ever before! Your support helps us provide free education\, not only through the museum\, but through a wide range of courses\, lectures\, field trips\, and children’s science programs. Donations also assist us in caring for the museum and library collections and in preserving our wonderful building\, which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990. To learn more about what we do please visit our website. \n \nRegistration Information\nIn keeping with its original charter\, admission is free—donations are suggested to ensure the future and quality of Wagner’s free education programs and to preserve its National Landmark building and collections. \nSuggested Donations \n$25/Family \n$10/adult \n$5/student \n$0 – Wagner members \nFor any questions\, please email tickets@wagnerfreeinstitute.org or call 215-763-6529 x17. \nIf you would like to check your membership status or become a member\, please email KellyT@wagnerfreeinstitute.org or call 215-763-6529 x11.

SUMMARY:LEGACY: A Community Mural Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Explore legacy through mural-making\, storytelling & bold color in Germantown with artist Diego Mendoza-Ramos. Art as memory\, power & protest\n\n\nRooted in Germantown’s layered history\, this workshop will explore personal and neighborhood legacies through collaborative mural-making by blending storytelling\, typography\, and public art in celebration of legacy as collective power.  Led by muralist Diego Mendoza-Ramos\, the session will center around the word LEGACY\, stenciled across a gridded mural inspired by quilts\, protest posters\, and early print blocks. \nParticipants will paint freely within and around this grid—mirroring the physical and symbolic fabric of Germantown—using bold color and shared memory. The final reveal will uncover clean type at the mural’s center\, paying homage to the neighborhood’s role in early American printing and visual activism. * \n \nThis workshop is part of a broader community series offered through the collaboration between Ourchive and visual artist Levester Williams and supported by Monument Lab. It aims to deeply engage the Germantown neighborhood around the powerful and resonant story of the late Hercules Posey\, George Washington’s enslaved cook who courageously escaped. Germantown\, known both for its painful legacy of slavery and its landmark role in America’s first recorded anti-slavery protest\, offers a potent space for exploring themes of historical preservation\, social justice\, and creative resistance. \n \nAt the heart of these events is the belief that individual narratives are powerful tools in safeguarding historical truth\, especially during a time when censorship and revisionist pressures threaten collective memory. Participants will not only create personal artifacts\, but also contribute to a collective effort to creatively preserve and honor untold stories that shape our communities. \n \nFree and open to all. Light refreshments provided. \nSpots are limited—please register in advance to reserve your place. \n \n*By attending this event\, I consent to OHCC/6S\, Monument Lab\, and Ourchive photographing or filming me and my guests\, and I authorize them to use these images for any lawful purpose\, including publicity and digital or print media\, with or without my name.
