Blake\n\n\nLocation: 20*20 House\, 20 Lansdowne Court. Admission: $5 donation suggested. Space is limited; RSVPs are highly recommended. Light refreshments will be served. With each harvest\, their vision of self-sufficiency was affirmed and grew stronger. \nNow the garden’s very existence is being threatened by the combined forces of wealth\, power\, and politics\, and these life-long friends – along with Mathew’s granddaughter Akiba – must battle a City Hall that considers their community treasure an impediment to progress. \nBlack Magic Woman Productions grew out of a need to create opportunities for theatre artists of color. Since 2006\, BMW Productions has promoted an appreciation for the African-American theatre canon. Led by playwright Renee Lucas Wayne\, this group of actors\, playwrights\, and directors continues to develop new works\, re-imagine the Classics\, and provide access to theatre for underserved communities. \nBlack Magic Woman Productions Facebook \n \nThis programming is supported by the LEDC’s Art Committee\, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the Lansdowne Arts Committee is to create\, foster\, and promote Lansdowne’s identity as a vibrant and inspiring artistic community. SUMMARY:Philly Unwrapped Community Waste Reduction Engagement Session
DESCRIPTION:Philly Unwrapped\, come let your voice be heard about waste reduction and reuse in Philadelphia! \nPhiladelphia spends millions every year managing waste. Almost nothing prevents it. At the same time\, food and beverage businesses are required to purchase single-use packaging that increases operating costs and contributes to pollution that disproportionately impacts Black and Brown communities where waste is processed and incinerated. \nThere may be a better\, less wasteful way — and it saves money and protects public health. \nPhilly Unwrapped is bringing together restaurant owners\, cafés\, caterers\, corner stores\, food trucks\, event venues\, hospitality operators\, community leaders\, and public officials to explore practical waste prevention strategies that work in Philadelphia. \nWhat This Is\nJoin ECHO Systems\, The Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia\, Rethink Disposable’s Clean Water Fund and Trash Academy in this informative and engaging community event. \nLearn How to Use the Philly Unwrapped Community Waste Reduction Toolkit — a free\, practical resource designed specifically for local food-sector businesses.\nCase studies show that businesses implementing reuse and waste prevention strategies save between $3\,000–$22\,000 annually\, while reducing trash volume\, improving operational efficiency\, and strengthening customer loyalty. Attendees will be able to join a funding consortium to demonstrate business need and interest in supporting a just transition toward reuse and waste prevention.\nThis event includes a community listening session. We want to hear directly from residents and business owners about concerns\, barriers\, and opportunities as we work to attract funding and build a just transition. \nWho Should Attend \nRestaurant\, café\, and food truck owners\nCaterers and event operators\nCorner store and grocery operators\nHospitality managers\nCommunity leaders and residents\nInstitutions and neighborhood organizations\nWe warmly invite City Council members\, local representatives\, community development corporations\, business improvement districts\, and neighborhood organizations to join this conversation. Advancing waste prevention presents an opportunity to strengthen fiscal stewardship\, support local businesses\, and protect public health — and we look forward to working together to explore what that can look like for Philadelphia. \nWhat You’ll Walk Away With\nClear\, implementable cost-saving strategies\nAccess to the free Philly-specific Toolkit\nEarly information about upcoming grant opportunities and how to participate in the funding consortium\nConnections to a growing network of local businesses and partners\nAn opportunity to help shape future funding and policy priorities\nThis is not a lecture. SUMMARY:Historical Society of Frankford April Meeting and Lecture
DESCRIPTION:The Historical Society of Frankford (HSF) today announced that Roger Turner\, curator of instruments and artifacts at the Science History Institute of Philadelphia\, will speak at its monthly meeting on April 14\, 2026 at 7:30 PM. Doors open at 7:00 PM. His topic will be “Weird\, Wonderful\, Playful and Profound: Treasures of the Science History Institute”. The venue is the HSF library/museum\, located at 1507 Orthodox St\, Philadelphia. The event is free and open to the public\, and parking is available across Orthodox Street at the Frankford Friends School. Light refreshments will be served after the lecture. \nThe Science History Institute is a free museum in Old City Philadelphia with some fascinating stuff. This talk explores surprising stories behind a few remarkable things from the collections. Why did Beatrix Potter draw mice around a Bunsen burner dreaming of toasted cheese? What can we learn about the history of plastic from a washed-up Lego dragon\, an ESPN producer’s vuvuzela\, and a song by Shel Silverstein? Added together\, these stories illustrate some of the ways that science and technology have created the world we live in today. \nRoger Turner is the curator of instruments and artifacts at the Science History Institute in Philadelphia\, USA. He studies the role of science in our daily lives\, from chemistry labs to pollution control to weather forecasting. Among his recent exhibits are “How to Read a Plastic Bag\,” and “Astroturf: Field of Contention.” His favorite scientific instrument is a spectrometer that has a label warning users about its “emotional crisis detector”.

SUMMARY:Uncle Bobbie's X Ericka Hart: Nasty Work Book Tour
DESCRIPTION:Black queer non-binary femme activist and award-winning sexuality educator\, Ericka Hart joins us for the release of her book\, “Nasty Work”.\n\n\n“Free your mind / And the rest will follow…” – En Vogue \nWe are so excited to welcome Black queer femme activist\, writer and award-winning sexuality educator\, Ericka Hart for the release of her new book\, Nasty Work. \nEricka will be in conversation with organizer\, advocate and the Deputy Executive Director for Strategy & Culture at the ACLU\, AJ Hikes. \nGet ready for a powerful discussion around sex\, sexuality and gender and how we can liberate our world\, just as well as our bodies and minds\, from harmful rhetoric\, systems and traditions to experience a new kind of pleasure. \nQ&A will follow the discussion. \nAll copies of Nasty Work will be signed. \nYou’re also in for a real treat. Your ticket will also grant you access to PAFA’s incredible museum and you can experience their captivating Bodies & Souls exhibit. \nYou will regret missing out! \n—– \nAbout the author: \nEricka Hart\, M.Ed. (she/they) has been teaching comprehensive\, trauma informed\, consent and pleasure-based sex-ed at the elementary\, high school\, undergraduate and graduate level for the past 15 years and is now the founder of her own sexuality education training program\, Sex Ed as Resistance. She is the co-host of the critically acclaimed podcast\, Hoodrat to Headwrap with her partner Ebony and mom to East Francis Coltrane (and cockapoo Baguette). \n \nAbout the moderator: \nAJ Hikes (they/them) is a social justice advocate\, community organizer\, TED Talk Speaker\, and unapologetically queer and Black. As Deputy Executive Director for Strategy & Culture\, AJ is chief counselor and principal partner to the Executive Director\, overseeing the critical functions of organizational strategic planning and priority setting nationwide\, while providing executive leadership across the ACLU. \n \nAbout the book: \nAn award-winning sexuality educator takes down society’s deeply entrenched colonial views on sex and gender throughout history in this accessible\, candid\, and revolutionary exploration of how we can—and should—reclaim our minds and bodies for a more pleasurable existence for all. \nWhen you think about sex ed\, your mind likely goes back to those uncomfortable school desks and the stifled laughs of your teenage years. But what we’ve been socialized to believe about sexuality actually hinders our own pleasure well into adulthood. Whether we know it or not\, even the most progressive among us are often using 400-year-old inherited thoughts and belief systems in the twenty-first century. Why are we still carrying forth these ancient values that have never served the vast majority? \nAs a Black\, queer\, non-binary\, disabled femme\, Ericka Hart believes that sex ed done right can actually be a tool for liberation. In Nasty Work\, she breaks down the ways that social implications keep us from experiencing pleasure\, particularly for marginalized communities across race\, gender\, sexuality\, and ability\, and how we can dismantle these oppressive myths. From examining what guides our attraction to others to the history of consent\, Ericka Hart takes the blinders off and reveals a more empowering view of sex and sexuality. \nNasty Work blends eye-opening research with powerful\, poignant personal narrative that disrupts everything you thought you knew about sex and society\, offering a liberatory framework that makes pleasure accessible for all. \n \n… \nDoors open at 6:30pm. \nStreet/garage parking available. Wheelchair accessible entrance available. \nAll ticket sales are final and non-refundable. \nBags larger than a handbag will not be permitted

SUMMARY:PA Fibershed Meet The Makers: Holly Guertin
