SUMMARY:20/20 Opening Night with InLiquid
DESCRIPTION:Programming partners InLiquid and TILT present exhibits on our opening night party at the Crane Arts Building while also celebrating Second Thursday\, a monthly event where galleries and artist studios open their doors to the public for an evening of celebrating art. \nInLiquid No Other Place to Go featuring Anita Allyn\, Richard Boutwell\, Laura Krasnow\, Kaitlin Pomerantz\, and Emma Ressel curated by Katie Tackman \nNo Other Place to Go considers how photography reflects the psychological weight of climate change\, shaped by collective anxiety\, grief\, and uncertainty. The featured work exemplifies photography’s capacity to show what is happening in a world undergoing rapid climatic and ecological change. These images affirm that evidence and emotion are not opposing forces\, but complementary forms of knowledge—together shaping how environmental realities are seen\, remembered\, and acted upon. \nTILT Institute for Contemporary Image Eco-Social Realism: Historic Mural Activations \nMural Arts Philadelphia and TILT present Eco-Social Realism: Historic Mural Activations. The exhibition takes as its starting point four murals within the larger neighborhood around TILT that were produced in the early years of Mural Arts Philadelphia. Those murals include: Forest Green (1996) by Ras Malik\, Cinema Verde (1998) by Dennis Haugh\, Tropical Landscape (1999) by Diane Keller\, and Tropical Landscape with Waterfall (2000) by Ana Uribe. As with many murals of that time period\, these four engaged in the representation of pastoral and garden scenes\, often mixing fantasy with landscapes familiar to both nearby Pennsylvania and the Caribbean\, where many neighbors originally migrated from.

SUMMARY:Penn's Woods
DESCRIPTION:For all who love trees and want to know them better.\n\n\nPennsylvania is the only state named for its extensive forests—and that legacy lives on today. With 135 native tree species and more than 60 additional species that have become naturalized\, trees are a defining part of our landscape. They offer beauty\, shade\, and a sense of calm and connection to nature. \nFor anyone who loves trees or wants to better understand them\, join retired botany professor Gary Emberger for an engaging and informative program. This presentation will introduce key botanical terms and concepts to help sharpen your observational skills and build confidence in identifying trees. \nThe program will feature slides of many common tree species\, along with a helpful handout. Leaf and twig samples will be available to bring the terminology to life. \nFollowing the presentation\, participants are invited to join the presenter for a guided walk around the library grounds\, using the handout to help identify approximately 12 different tree species in real time. \nWhether you’re a beginner or a nature enthusiast\, this program offers a wonderful opportunity to deepen your appreciation for the trees around us.

SUMMARY:Priority Hoarding: A Retrospectacle
DESCRIPTION:“Where our baggage is yours!” \nWelcome to the Bearded Ladies’ Hairport\, an interactive installation & performance series built on 16-years of accumulated baggage from a queer cabaret company devoted to art\, care\, mess\, and community. While you’re waiting for a flight that may never take off\, unpack your baggage and rifle through some of ours. You may recognize something as your own\, or find something you never knew you were carrying. \nMade for anyone who has ever lost a bag\, gotten stuck\, or missed a (metaphoric) flight\, this trans(formational) installation asks: how do you know it’s time to move on when you don’t know where you’re going? \nProduced by The Bearded Ladies Cabaret\nPart of FringeArt’s 2026 Festival & Collective Futures \nInstallation on view September 10-December 20\, 2026\nat The Hairport | 444 N 3rd Street\, Philadelphia PA 19123 \nInstallation hours:\nWednesday\, Thursday & Friday 4-9PM | Last timed entry at 8:15PM\nSaturday & Sunday 11AM-3PM| Last timed entry at 2:15PM \nLive events at The Hairport | Saturdays at 8PM \nThe Hairport is an interactive\, immersive installation filled with costumes\, cardboard props\, and other ephemera from the Bearded Ladies Cabaret’s 16-year performance history. Visitors will make their way through a sprawling multi-room space made to look like a fantastical\, metaphorical “airport”. Visitors will be invited to interact with components of the installation and may encounter docents in guiding roles. The experience will culminate in a “lounge” space full of “Bearded baggage” which will also serve as the performance site for the Now Hoarding: In-Flight Entertainment live event series. \nIt will take visitors approximately 60-75 minutes to view the entirety of the Priority Hoarding installation. Groups of 6 will enter the installation\, at 15-minute timed entry intervals. An opportunity to ride a Surrey bike is offered but not required.

SUMMARY:Curators in Conversation: Revisiting the Story of the Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Join curators Bill Ewald and David Brigham for a gallery talk conversation that revisits the American Revolution through the exhibition Paths to Independence. Moving beyond a simple Patriot versus Loyalist framework\, they explore how revolutionary ideals intersected with the practical realities of war—provisioning\, militias\, governance\, and daily decision‑making. This discussion opens the story wider\, asking how curators can reintroduce historical complexity and include many voices in telling the nation’s founding moment. Discover how ideas\, operations\, and lived experience shaped the Revolution we continue to interpret today.

SUMMARY:Building Hope in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion with Dr. David Hasan on what support might look like for children facing the humanitarian situation in Gaza.\n\n\nSince October 7\, 2023\, UNICEF reports that over 20\,000 children in Gaza have been killed and at least 40\,000 injured. With estimates that almost all schools in Gaza have sustained damage or been destroyed\, over 600\,000 children remained out of school as of early 2026. Some 800\,000 children have been displaced from their homes\, and in the first six months of this year\, UNICEF treated just under 20\,000 children for acute malnutrition. Child protection indicators\, like those around child labor and psychosocial distress\, are worsening amid these conditions. \nWhat might support look like for children facing this devastating humanitarian situation? \nIn 2024\, Palestinian American neurosurgeon David Hasan took it upon himself to try to answer this question after traveling to Gaza on one of the first international medical missions in the territory. He responded by founding the nonprofit Gaza Children’s Village (GCV). Its flagship program\, the Academy of Hope\, provides education\, meals\, healthcare\, and emotional support to thousands of orphaned and displaced children. GCV\, in coordination with international partners\, the Board of Peace\, and with approval from the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT)\, is also setting up a mobile hospital to address the critical lack of pediatric care. GCV also runs a women’s center\, an “educational city\,” and is working to deliver fresh food aid. \nJoin Perry World House for a discussion with Dr. David Hasan\, moderated by journalist Deborah Amos\, who has reported from war zones for decades\, to learn more about this initiative\, what it has taken to build it amid ongoing strife\, and what he believes needs to happen next. \nGuest Speaker \nDr. David Hasan is a Professor of Neurosurgery\, Neurology\, and Biomedical Engineering at Duke University\, where he has built an international reputation as a cerebrovascular scientist-surgeon\, having treated more than 2\,500 brain aneurysms and authored over 270 peer-reviewed publications. He was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2024. Since founding the Gaza Children’s Village\, he has led its growth into a multi-site operation supported by figures like José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen and donors from both Palestinian and Israeli communities\, and he now oversees its expansion into pediatric medical care alongside education and psychosocial support. \nDeborah Amos is a Ferris Professor of Journalism in Residence at Princeton University.
