SUMMARY:Penn Climate Seminar: Shelley Welton
DESCRIPTION:Join Penn Climate for a discussion by Shelley Welton titled “New Experiments in Public Power.”\n\n\nPenn Climate welcomes Shelley Welton\, Presidential Distinguished Professor of Law and Energy Policy at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy\, for a seminar titled “New Experiments in Public Power.” \nIn leading jurisdictions\, the “easy” part of the clean energy transition has been achieved. What remains to be accomplished—constructing energy systems that emit no carbon\, rather than just substantially less carbon—will be harder and more expensive. In recognition of these challenges\, both New York State and the United Kingdom recently passed laws creating state-owned clean energy companies: New York by giving a new mission to its “New York Power Authority\,” and the UK by creating “Great British Energy.” \nProponents of these new state-owned clean energy entities hope that they might deliver the energy transition more affordably\, fairly\, and quickly than privately owned counterparts. Critics suggest that they are a distraction from solutions capable of mobilizing and deploying private finance at necessary scales. This presentation will discuss and assess these new public power entities\, considering their theory\, politics\, and promise alongside their early implementation challenges and limits.

SUMMARY:The Secret Lives of Spring Wildflowers (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Skunk cabbage\, bloodroot\, and trout lilies are among the first signs of spring and warmer weather ahead. Spring ephemerals and wildflowers must complete part of their life cycles before the tree canopy leafs out\, reducing light levels at the forest floor. These plants face many challenges\, including unpredictable weather and pollinator availability. Spring wildflowers have special adaptations to overcome these challenges and intricate relationships with pollinators and seed dispersers. Learn more about these wildflowers\, their life histories\, and plant-insect interactions. \nJoin live to participate in our online learning community or watch after as your schedule allows. All registrants will receive a recording of the class with access to view the class for 30 days after the live session. \nThis program takes place online Wednesday\, March 25\, 2026. \n About the Instructor: \nEllen Lake\, PhD\, is the Director of Conservation and Research at Mt. Cuba Center. She taught environmental education and was the Education Director at the Brandywine and Red Clay Valley Associations. Ellen has a master’s degree in Entomology and Ph.D. in Entomology and Wildlife Ecology from the University of Delaware\, where she researched biological control of mile-a-minute weed and how to integrate weed management techniques to restore plant communities. Ellen has extensive experience researching insect-plant interactions\, including work for the USDA in the Greater Everglades ecosystem. \nREGISTER NOW: \nGeneral Public \nIndividual+ & Dual+ Members \nSupporter\, Advocate & Conservator Members \n

SUMMARY:Philadelphia After Dark: Designing a City That Works 24/7
DESCRIPTION:As Philadelphia gears up for 2026\, Raheem Manning explores planning\, design\, and nightlife policy shaping a safe\, inclusive 24-hour city.\n\n\nAs Philadelphia prepares for an unprecedented moment in 2026—welcoming the FIFA World Cup\, America’s 250th anniversary\, and other global events—the city is actively rethinking what it means to function as a true 24-hour city. This presentation will explore how nightlife\, culture\, design\, and public policy intersect to shape a safe\, vibrant\, and economically inclusive nighttime environment. \nDrawing from Philadelphia’s Nighttime Economy strategy\, the talk will highlight how intentional planning\, cross-sector collaboration\, and thoughtful design can support businesses\, residents\, and visitors after dark. The discussion will also touch on how architects\, planners\, and creatives play a critical role in shaping spaces that balance energy\, safety\, and quality of life—ensuring that the city doesn’t just shine during major moments\, but functions better every night. \n \nThis event will be held at the Philadelphia Ethical Society\, 1906 Rittenhouse Square\, Philadelphia\, PA 19103. \nRegistration is not required for in-person events\, however it is helpful for our planning. Light refreshments will be served. \nFor more info\, please CLICK HERE!
