SUMMARY:Artist Talk and Dinner: Yassi Deylami
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Yassi Deylami in a more intimate and relaxed setting. Following the talk\, dinner will be served allowing for more discussion with the artist and among guests. \nTrained as an architect\, Yassi Deylami approaches art as a form of spatial inhabitation. For her\, architecture is not merely structure but also a logic that allows space to be lived into and activated by memory\, imagination\, and presence. With a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Architecture\, Yassi creates work based on geometry and structural order\, which becomes the framework through which creatures emerge: shadow selves made visible\, ready to play.\nGrowing up between Tehran\, Iran and Sydney\, Australia\, Yassi learned to fragment and conceal aspects of her identity to survive this duality. Art became her way of unlocking her feelings of displacement\, and the demons she once believed she was fighting\, revealed themselves as exiled parts seeking recognition and belonging.\nWorking with charcoal\, pastel\, and printmaking\, Yassi allows spaces and forms to surface intuitively. Her large-scale works engulf the viewer\, drawing them into inner landscapes that house the unconscious and initiate self-discovery. Her smaller\, intimate monotypes invite viewers to be vulnerable and reflect upon the mysterious as a path toward wholeness.\nThrough her work\, large and small\, she creates surreal worlds that explore displacement\, belonging\, and the idea of home as a site of deep memory\, comfort and the universal desire for connection amid chaos. In a digital world defined by surfaces and distraction\, her work invites viewers inward – to confront the shared human truths of grief\, longing\, rage and the enduring desire for wholeness. \nMenu\n___\nCucumber\, red bell peppers\, tomato salad\n___\nBraised chicken with pomegranate glaze\nSaffron rice\n___\nOrange almond cake\n___\n*A GF vegan option of tagine with rice is available\, please inquire at time of reservation.

SUMMARY:Polymer Play
DESCRIPTION:Learn the process of sculpting miniature with polymer clay. New projects each month!\n\n\nIn this beginner-friendly workshop\, you’ll be guided through the full process of designing\, shaping\, detailing\, and finishing a structured polymer clay project. Each session focuses on one specific piece — such as bag charms\, magnets\, earrings\, matchbooks\, bookmarks\, keychains\, or button sets — allowing you to create a cohesive and polished final product. \nPlanned Project Suggestions:March: Lucky Charms- Bag CharmApril: Custom Magnets May: Statement Earrings \nAll materials are included. No prior experience is necessary. When you arrive your clay will be portioned for you\, tools supplied\, and the instructor will walk you through all the steps required. This workshop is designed to be approachable for beginners while still offering room for personalization and creative expression. You’ll learn foundational techniques for shaping\, adding texture\, creating structure\, and finishing your piece. Depending on the project\, we’ll also cover simple assembly methods using basic hardware. Throughout the session\, your instructor will share insights into materials\, techniques\, and resources for anyone interested in continuing their clay practice at home — or you can simply come for a relaxed\, creative night out. \nCome with ideas\, or arrive ready to experiment. Either way\, you’ll leave with a finished piece you designed yourself. \nAbout your Instructor:Grace Larivee is a designer with a love for storytelling\, nostalgia\, and the details that make a space or brand feel alive. Her work blends tactile and digital elements\, drawing from environmental graphic design to create experiences that feel warm\, intentional\, and a little unexpected. Grace believes design should feel personal — like a well-loved notebook filled with sketches\, notes\, and inspiration — and aims to craft work that invites people in and leaves a lasting impression. \nAbout the Location:This event is located in the Starr Garden Playground rec center. When you enter the gates for the playground you will walk to the right of the building to the entrance that is facing Lombard Street. The rec center is mostly used for after school programs and kids camps but is empty in the evenings so they allow us to have adult programming. You’re welcome to bring your own water bottle or snacks\, and there will be light music and a social studio atmosphere rather than a classroom. \nOrganized by The Craft Coven\, this event is part of a community oriented series of creative enrichment projects focused on affordability for all. For more information on the group’s missions and to get involved more widely check out https://www.TheCraftCoven.org and become a Member for all the inside opportunities and classes.

SUMMARY:Nature Hour: Discovering Our Spring Ephemeral Wildflowers
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this virtual presentation to learn all about these natural beauties that light up our woods in the springtime!\n\n\nAbout the Presentation\nSpring ephemeral wildflowers bloom in early spring before the forest canopy leafs out as part of their strategy to capitalize on sunlight availability. They do all of their growing and reproduction during the time when sunlight reaches the forest floor\, which is an ingenious survival and reproduction strategy. In the process\, they create beautiful landscapes of color that we get to enjoy! This presentation will explore the magical world of spring ephemeral wildflowers\, examine their survival and reproductive strategy\, and provide tips to identify our most common beauties. \n \nAbout Your Presenter\nKeith Williams is the Vice President of Engagement and Education for Lancaster Conservancy. Keith is an environmental educator\, naturalist\, writer\, and photographer. He has a BS in Environmental Biology from Kutztown University and MS in Ecological Teaching and Learning from the Lesley University Audubon Expedition Institute. He has served on the National Social Emotional Learning in Environmental Education Working Group\, was appointed to the Maryland Governors Environmental Literacy Committee\, and served on the Board of the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education for 12 years. \n \nAbout Nature Hour\nNature Hour is a lecture series presented by Lancaster Conservancy\, taking place on Thursdays throughout the winter. The one-hour virtual lectures\, which include a Q&A with the expert presenter\, cover a wide range of conservation\, environmental\, and nature-related topics impacting our community\, region\, and world to an audience of all ages of learners. \nTo find out about other events in the series please follow this link: Nature Hour Collection 2025/2026 \nTo see recordings of past Nature Hour lectures\, please visit the Conservancy’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LancasterConservancy \n\n\nThank you to our generous sponsor Brookhills Investment Group for making educational programming about Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve and the native plants it protects possible.\n\n\n\nThank you to our incredible Annual Sponsors for their generous support!

SUMMARY:The Maternal Imprint
DESCRIPTION:This Women’s History Month\, you’re invited to a thought-provoking presentation where leading gender and science scholar Sarah S. Richardson charts the untold history of the idea that women’s health and behavior during pregnancy can have long-term effects on their children’s health and welfare. \nThe Maternal Imprint\, Richardson’s groundbreaking book\, offers a critical analysis of conceptual and ethical issues—in particular\, the staggering implications for maternal well-being and reproductive autonomy—provoked by the striking rise of epigenetics and fetal origins science in postgenomic biology today. \nRichardson examines what we might take for granted about human pregnancy\, and invites us to challenge our values and assumptions that have guided science’s perspectives on the maternal body and infant health. Shifting scientific views throughout history have influenced medicine\, ethics\, and public perceptions of motherhood highlighting the complex interface of science and society.

SUMMARY:Women in Horticulture
DESCRIPTION:Join Jenny Rose Carey as she unveils the forgotten contributions of pioneering women in horticulture!\n\n\nWomen have tended and loved their gardens for millennia but their contributions are largely forgotten. In this lecture\, Jenny Rose Carey takes a small slice of time\, 1900 to 1940\, and explores the key women who founded gardening organizations including The Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women; The Woman’s National Farm and Garden Association; and The Garden Club of America. Other women discussed include authors\, garden designers\, conservationists\, dig-in-dirt gardeners\, and influential women from Chester County who participated in the horticultural movement during that time. \n \nJenny Rose Carey is a renowned gardener\, educator\, historian\, and author. She is the former senior director at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Meadowbrook Farm in Jenkintown\, and previously worked at Temple University for over a decade\, first as an adjunct professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture and then as director of the Ambler Arboretum. Jenny Rose has been lecturing nationally and internationally for many years. \n \nPenn State Great Valley strives to host inclusive\, accessible events that enable all individuals in our community to engage fully. The campus includes accessible and gender neutral restroom\, dedicated parking spaces\, elevators\, lactation room\, step-free access\, and a complimentary wheelchair. SUMMARY:Return to the Sky: The Reintroduction of the Bald Eagle
DESCRIPTION:Hear from author Tina Morris about her book\, Return to the Sky.\n\n\nTHURSDAY\, MARCH 19 \nReturn to the Sky: The Reintroduction of the Bald Eagle \n7:00–8:30 PM \nTina Morris\, Author of Return to the Sky \nIn 1976\, as the bald eagle faced extinction in the continental U.S.\, Tina Morris began her graduate work at Cornell University. By chance\, she was chosen to reintroduce the species to New York State\, hoping to repopulate eastern North America. Young\, female\, and inexperienced\, she navigated the challenges of saving this iconic bird while gaining acceptance in the male-dominated world of raptor biology. Raising seven eagles helped her overcome the isolation of fieldwork\, rescuing an endangered species—and herself in the process. \nFree of charge | Virtual event (a Zoom link will be emailed to participants prior to lecture date) \nThis virtual lecture is a part of our Third Thursday Lecture series \n__________________ \nInterested in reading Return to the Sky?
