SUMMARY:Open Studio at STITCH AND DESTROY
DESCRIPTION:Sew\, craft\, mend and more during our open studio! Reserve access to sewing machines\, a cutting table\, and our workspace with expert guidance\n\n\nDo you love sewing\, textiles and fiber arts? But\, you don’t have a good workspace? \nCome work at STITCH AND DESTROY! During our Open Studio\, you will have access to sewing machines\, a cutting table\, an ironing station\, and our expert guidance. Unlike our typical workshops\, Open Studio allows you to work on your own project\, whether that is mending\, sewing garments\, cutting patterns\, or creating soft sculptures. \nOur studio offers access to Singer Brilliance sewing machines (one per person). Additionally\, there is shared access to our cutting table with a 24″x36″ cutting mat and iron and ironing board. Scissors\, universal machine sewing needles\, all purpose sewing thread\, and hand sewing needles will also be available. Please bring your own supplies\, patterns\, fabric\, and projects. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine\, but we will not be reviewing sewing machine basics. \nOpen Studio is a supervised studio with no instruction. You must be comfortable using a sewing machine. We are happy to provide guidance\, suggestions\, and answer any sewing related questions. \nSpace is limited to 4 attendees per hour. You are welcome to reserve the space for 1-3 hours\, just choose the time(s) that you will be attending. This workshop is open to folks 16+. \n\n\n\n\nLocation and Accessibility: \nSTITCH AND DESTROY is located right off of South Street on 4th St in Philadelphia. Our address is 523 S 4th St. Philadelphia\, PA 19147. \nThere is limited metered street parking on our block and in this area it can be difficult to find parking. We suggest taking public transportation- Bus 40\, 57\, 12\, 47\, 42 and 21 are nearby. The Market-Frankford Line 5th St stop is 7 blocks away. The Broad Street Line Lombard-South stop is 10 blocks away. \nPlease arrive on time for your reserved hour block. If there is available space\, you are welcome to stay longer but you must purchase another hour. \nWe do have a bathroom available to attendees. The studio/workshop space is up 4 steps of stairs\, making this workshop not wheelchair accessible. Email stitchanddestroyclothing@gmail.com with any questions. \n \nWorkshop Policy: \nTicket refunds are available through eventbrite 7 days before the workshop. Please request refunds through eventbrite or email stitchanddestroyclothing@gmail.com. Please be mindful that space is limited in our small studio and there is a waitlist. Ticket processing fees are non-refundable. \nAfter the 7-day refund window\, STITCH AND DESTROY will not offer attendees a “Workshop Credit” for Open Studio. Last minute cancellations make it difficult to fill the space. Please email stitchanddestroyclothing@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. \nIn the event that STITCH AND DESTROY cancels this workshop\, an alternate date will be chosen and ticket refunds will be available to all that are unable to attend the alternate date.

SUMMARY:Meditation Monday: Community Sit Circle
DESCRIPTION:Join us each Monday in collective practice — arriving in our bodies\, grounding in the present moment\, and meeting ourselves with curiosity\,\n\n\nMeditation Monday at One Art – Community Sit Circle \nDate: Every Monday\, Starting October 13th \nTime: 6:30 – 7:30 pm \nLocation: One Art – 4139 N 52nd St. Philadelphia \n\nWith over twenty-five years of shared meditation and mindfulness practice\, Malaika Gilpin and Noelle Warford invite you to gather in stillness at One Art Community Center in West Philly. \nEach week\, our community sit becomes a gentle return—to posture\, to silence\, to the steady rhythm of breath. Together\, we practice arriving in our bodies and in the present moment\, meeting whatever we find with curiosity\, compassion\, and care. \nWe do not sit to escape the heat of the world\, but to sharpen our collective focus\, to be more fully here—awake and embodied—in a time that asks everything of us. \nBring a journal\, water\, or a cushion if you wish. No experience is needed. No equipment required. Donations are optional.

SUMMARY:Tofu: A Culinary History
DESCRIPTION:The history of tofu is anything but bland! \nSpend an engaging evening with the Science History Institute’s Jesse Smith and food historian Russell Thomas\, author of “Tofu: A Culinary History.” In this lively talk\, Thomas traces tofu’s remarkable journey from its ancient origins in East Asia to its global rise as a staple of modern plant-based cuisine.
