SUMMARY:"A World in the Making: The Shakers" Opening Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening “A World in the Making: The Shakers”\n\n\nJoin us on Friday\, January 30th\, as we celebrate the opening of A World in the Making: The Shakers. \nDon’t miss this special opportunity to explore our new exhibition alongside artists\, curators\, and other ICA community members. \nThe evening will feature live music and light refreshments throughout\, with an opening set by Hudson Rivers\, a performance by The Foundation Singers\, and a closing DJ set by Rashid Zakat. \n7:00 PM | Opening Set by Hudson Rivers \n8:00 PM | Performance by The Foundation Singers \n9:00PM | DJ Set by Rashid Zakat \n \nNote: ICA will be closed to the public until 7 PM on Friday\, January 30th. Our regular visitation hours will resume on Saturday\, January 31st at 12 PM. \n\nAccessibility\nICA is committed to creating a welcoming environment for all visitors. For more notes on accessibility\, including accessible parking nearby\, visit our Accessibility landing page. If you require any accessibility accommodations or have any questions about the program\, contact us at hello@ica.upenn.edu. \n \nAbout the exhibitions\nA World in the Making: The Shakers explores the design legacy of the Shakers\, a religious group whose values of community\, labor\, and equality shaped their furniture\, architecture\, and everyday objects. Through works by contemporary artists influenced by the Shakers\, alongside original Shaker-made pieces\, the exhibition considers how their design principles remain relevant today. \nFounded in 18th-century England and later established in the U.S. across more than twenty distinct communities\, from Kentucky to Maine\, Shaker communities developed a distinctive visual language—marked by simplicity\, innovation\, and purpose. While often celebrated for their aesthetic\, Shaker designs were rooted in spiritual practice and collective life. \nBy pairing historical artifacts with newly commissioned works\, the exhibition invites reflection on how Shaker ideals continue to inform conversations around inclusion\, gender\, and intentional living in the 21st century. \nThis exhibition was organized by the Vitra Design Museum\, the Milwaukee Art Museum\, the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia\, and the Wüstenrot Foundation in collaboration with Shaker Museum. \nEntryways: Xenobia Bailey continues the collaboration between ICA and New York-based textile studio Maharam which invites artists to reimagine the windows of ICA’s façade. For the 2025-26 edition\, Philly-based artist Xenobia Bailey created a design characterized by her “Funktional” aesthetic and rooted in her decades-long fiber arts practice. Entryways: Xenobia Bailey is organized by Denise Ryner\, Andrea B. Laporte Curator. \n \nSupport\nProgramming at ICA is made possible in part by the Emily and Jerry Spiegel Fund to Support Contemporary Culture and Visual Arts and the Lise Spiegel Wilks and Jeffrey Wilks Family Foundation. Public and Student Engagement at ICA is supported by the Bernstein Public Engagement Fund\, Suzanne Weiss Doft & Jacob W. Doft\, Stacey & Robert Goergen Jr.\, Hilarie L. & Mitchell Morgan\, the Nash Family Foundation\, Joline & David Stemerman\, Dana McDonald Strong & Mark W. Strong\, and the John Wind Student Engagement Endowed Fund. \nSupport for Entryways is provided by Maharam Digital Projects.

SUMMARY:Variety Pack
DESCRIPTION:After its debut in 2025\, VARIETY PACK is back and leveling up. Philadelphia’s festival dedicated to the chaotic\, theatrical\, unclassifiable corners of alt-comedy returns January 22 – 31\, 2026 with two weekends of shows\, twenty acts\, and even more gloriously unhinged performances.\nWhat started as a one-time experiment has now officially become its own producing entity: Variety Pack\, an independent festival committed to giving Philly’s strangest comedic minds a home… \n12:00 PM\, WORKSHOP: Acting in Stand-Up (Encore)\nA repeat of the popular daytime workshop blending acting technique with comedic performance.\n2:30 PM\, Kidprov! The Musical!\nAn encore performance of the family-friendly improv show\, but this time with MUSIC! Featuring cast members from Philly’s beloved musical improv show\, Thank you\, Places!\n7:00 PM\, The Kings That Are Really Truly True: The King\, The Show\nThey say you can’t pick your family. Who ‘they’ are is up for debate. They also say you can’t pick your King. We say otherwise (who ‘we’ are is also unclear). Devised by an actual teenager\, this show features kings – fictional and self-proclaimed – competing through feats of strength and stupidity so you\, the people\, can decide! Leave your peasantry at the door because it’s about to get royal around here. Featuring Charlotte Northeast & friends.\n8:30 PM\, The Futuremores\nFake awards for real shows that haven’t happened yet. Here in Philadelphia\, we celebrate the hard work and artistic achievements of our theater scene with the annual Barrymore Awards. These awards recognize outstanding performances and contributions to the previous season’s plays. This is not that. The Futuremores is part award show\, part Squid Games\, part March Madness bracket. Don’t know what the rest of the 2025-26 Philadelphia theatrical season has in store? You don’t need to! The Futuremores is a way to get to know what your theater neighbors have coming down the pike and preemptively honor them with awards that mean less than nothing but sure are fun!

SUMMARY:Equal Exchange Tasting Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a delicious adventure exploring Fair Trade products with Equal Exchange!\n\n\nEqual Exchange Tasting Event \nEqual Exchange began with a simple yet powerful idea: What if food could be traded \nin a way that is fair and honest\, empowering both farmers and consumers? Since \n1986\, we have been creating people-centered supply chains that prioritize producers\, \nconsumers\, and our planet. Unfortunately\, our food system is increasingly dominated \nby a select few\, often to the detriment of many. At a time when so many want our \nfood to be both convenient and to reflect our values\, can we challenge ourselves to \ncreate something different? \nJoin Frankie Pondolph for a journey into our small farmer model. We will be highlighting our partners around the globe\, through tasting a variety of our products.

Join us on Sundays at 11:00 AM for some time dedicated to self-care and relaxation. This event will take place at Black Lotus HHC at 206 Rittenhousetown Lane\, where you can unwind and focus on yourself. \nTake part in yoga sessions\, meditation exercises\, and mindfulness activities to rejuvenate your mind and body. See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane.
