SUMMARY:Nature Hour: Stream Health & Delisting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual presentation celebrating collaborative efforts underway to bring our streams back to health!\n\n\nAbout the Presentation\nAt its core\, the delisting strategy is a microcosm of the Lancaster Clean Water Partners vision – collaboration in action for clean water. Partners come together to share information about needs and plans and to drive action with the common goal of cleaning up a particular section of stream. This requires trust and a high degree of collaboration. Success requires a diverse set of partners to conduct outreach\, design projects\, provide funding\, plant trees\, and build conservation practices. Today we’ll share how it’s working! \nThe Zoom link to join this presentation will be sent to attendees in the lead up to the event. \n \nAbout The Presenters\nMegan Blackmon is the Director of Projects for the Lancaster Clean Water Partners. There\, she serves as the project lead for a unique and collaborative Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) project that addresses conservation practices to meet agricultural priorities and improve stream health in Lancaster County. She also strengthens and coordinates the tracking\, management\, and reporting aspects of multiple grants that support the Partners. \nAmanda Goldsmith is a Watershed Specialist at Lancaster County Conservation District. \n \nAbout Nature Hour\nNature Hour is a lecture series presented by Lancaster Conservancy\, taking place throughout the winter. These one-hour virtual lectures\, that include a Q&A with the expert presenter\, cover a wide range of conservation\, environmental\, and nature-related topics impacting our community\, region\, and world for learners of all ages. \nTo see recordings of past Nature Hour lectures\, please visit the Conservancy’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LancasterConservancy \n \nThank you to our incredible Annual Sponsors for their generous support!

SUMMARY:DAG Spotlight: The Clay Studio by DIGSAU
DESCRIPTION:Join DIGSAU to discuss their project with The Clay Studio at 1425 N American St.\n\n\nSince 1974\, The Clay Studio has been one of the world’s leading ceramic arts institutions\, providing a unique learning and exhibition environment for diverse audiences. Philadelphia’s early 20th century warehouses provide the language for the building’s simple but expressive façade\, connecting the building to the city’s tradition of masonry\, manufacturing\, and craft. Traditional brickwork elements such as raking and corbelling are reinterpreted at a monumental scale to create a richly textured\, undulating façade that is highlighted by vivid shadows throughout the day. Generous windows showcase the wide range of activities taking place within the building. \nAt street-level\, pedestrians see into a gallery space\, demonstration studio\, and retail shop. An emphasis on display continues at the upper stories where the rhythmic and varied windows suggest a “curio cabinet” of activity\, revealing artist studios\, state-of-the-art prototyping spaces\, ceramic studios\, and kiln rooms. Across the façade\, textural buff-colored bricks reference the unglazed bisqueware pottery produced after a single kiln firing. This neutral backdrop is punctuated by bright accents of orange glazed bricks marking important public spaces within the building. \n \nJoin DIGSAU to hear about their project. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A. \n \nThis event will be hosted on Zoom. \n \nFor more information\, click HERE!

SUMMARY:GOOD NEWS CAFE for First Saturdays at The People's Gallery Project
DESCRIPTION:For the first Saturday of 2025\, we will transform our gallery into a cafe filled with art and uplifting current events and news on display.\n\n\nWelcome to the GOOD NEWS CAFE at The People’s Gallery Project! Join us for a cozy evening of good vibes\, great music\, and delicious food. The event kicks off on Sat Jan 04 2025 at 6:00 PM at 1034 Pine St. Our first Saturdays are all about bringing the community together to celebrate art and creativity. Let’s start 2025 on the right foot together! \nFor the First Saturday of 2025\, we are doing something different. We will transform the gallery into an evening cafe filled with music\, specialty tea and coffees\, non-alcoholic cocktails\, books and games\, and printed news and current events to browse! Here’s the twist: we will only be displaying positive and uplifting positive events. As we bring in the new year\, this event is meant to serve as a reminder of the good of humanity and the beauty that exists in the world\, even when the timeline seems to be filled with bad news. \nPerformances to be announced! \nThe People’s Gallery Project is an Occupational Therapy initiative to increase advocacy and accessibility for creative entrepreneurs. We believe that art is conducive to healing and that all individuals should have the opportunity to work and sustain themselves through fulfilling entrepreneurial ventures. We are holding a series of unique community events and showcases which combine visual and performance arts in collaboration with a range of local artists and creatives. Our purpose in hosting these events is to foster community-centered healing by creating safe spaces for all individuals to come together for a shared experience. All artwork is for sale and 100% of the profits of anything sold goes directly to the artists in an effort to minimize the barriers that artists face in reaching professional and financial independence. \nLearn more at www.peoplesgalleryproject.com

SUMMARY:Philadelphia Mid-Winter Bird Census
DESCRIPTION:Now running in its 39th year\, this census will gather data on wintering birds all over Philadelphia.\nThis is an all-day event that\, for some teams\, starts and ends with a search for owls. In the last few years\, this has resulted in around 107 species (typically besting all Christmas Bird Counts in the area). \nIf you are interested in participating\, please contact phillybirdcensus@gmail.com. \nYou can do this on your own (if you can ID sparrows\, you are good to go)\, or join one of the many teams at your favorite Philly birding location or while exploring a completely new area. \nThe individual territories largely overlapping with the city’s green spaces can be found here.\nWe are always open to including new locations that can be surveyed for many years.
