SUMMARY:A Closer Look by Yassi Deylami Opening Cocktail Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening cocktail reception on First Friday for our new exhibition featuring Yassi Deylami! \nRooms for the Unconscious \nIn a world of constant change\, where identity is often defined through otherness in the pursuit of uniqueness\, Yassi Deylami asks how spaces of safety and unity can still be found. Her mythological explorations strip away surface logic to connect with a deeper human narrative—one that repeats across time and geography. By removing cultural and societal conditioning\, the work seeks to uncover the fundamental forces that have sustained communities for generations. \nWith a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Architecture\, Yassi presents continuous worlds of characters navigating their place within society. Chaos breaks free at one edge while foundations are rebuilt at another\, held together by a central order that offers grounding. Rather than reinforcing binary thinking\, the work challenges the idea that experience is simply black and white. Internally\, multiple truths coexist\, yet externally we are conditioned to define opposition as “other” in order to give ourselves the illusion of being right. \nIn a world that demands differentiation to succeed\, Yassi’s sacred spaces search for belonging without sacrificing individuality—imagining community as something that can be rebuilt through shared human connection. \nOpen to the public between 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

SUMMARY:First Friday March 6th @ Arch Enemy Arts
DESCRIPTION:Arch Enemy Arts invites you to join us on March 6th from 5 – 9 pm for the opening reception of five new solo exhibitions\, alongside ELIXIR II\, our March group show that’s sure to quench your thirsty imagination. All of our solo artists will be in attendance\, and Graham Yarrington plans to do a short acoustic set of music to accompany his work early on in the evening. \nExhibitions: \nIMPRESSIONS by J L King \n2/21/26 – 3/15/26 \nBay Area artist J L King combines trompe l’oeil finesse with early surrealism\, recalling painters like Magritte\, Kay Sage\, and de Chirico. As if that weren’t enough\, each piece in the series makes a protagonist of one or more composite creatures—featuring fat-bottomed pears\, potted green-people\, and one giant strawberry-fly—adding a contemporary pop humor that’s an absolute joy to behold. \nDREAMER’S CLUTCH by Aunty Beast \n2/21/26 – 3/15/26 \nLocal puppet-master-extraordinaire Aunty Beast creates meticulously crafted plushies\, puppets\, pups\, and beasts. Each is hand-sewn\, wrought from another world\, and imbued with their own life and personality. \nASHES OF THE ASTRAL by Brian Serway \n3/6/26 – 3/29/26 \nBrian Serway illustrates black and white fantasies inspired by the mystery\, mysticism\, and folklore of his home in the Appalachian mountains. With stylistic details practically carved into (or out of) the negative space\, his drawings traverse the page with momentous shifts of darkness and scale in relatively small and contained compositions. \nINTO THE VOID by Mike Gamble \n3/6/26 – 3/29/26 \nPhilly-based painter and master printmaker\, Mike Gamble debuts his first solo exhibition of hyperrealistic and mystical oil paintings\, a number of which have been used as official posters for the band TOOL. A legend among the TOOL Army\, Gamble’s art is a lot like the band’s music—inspired by a consciousness that exists within emptiness. \nTHE CHERISHED UNKNOWN by Graham Yarrington \n3/6/26 – 3/29/26 \nRochester-based artist Graham Yarrington illustrates translucent dreamscapes in ink and acrylic that effortlessly glow from pristine white paper. An emerging artist\, tattoo apprentice\, and poster illustrator\, this is Yarrington’s first solo exhibition of new work\, and it is an absolute triumph of skill and vision.

SUMMARY:Nature Hour: Butterfly Persistence in the Face of Human Influence
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this virtual presentation on current research about the effects of ecosystem changes on pollinators.\n\n\nAbout the Presentation\nWe live in a time of unprecedented human influence\, where climate change and biodiversity loss are reshaping ecosystems worldwide. Pollinators are among the most affected\, with their decline threatening both the stability of ecosystems and human food supply. Through the stories of the cabbage white butterfly\, an invasive species that flourishes in cities\, and the great spangled fritillary\, a native species potentially threatened by habitat loss\, this presentation will offer insights into the future of butterflies in a changing world. We will explore questions such as: Which species can survive\, and even thrive\, in this human-dominated world? What traits give them an advantage\, and what happens to the species that lack those traits? \n \nAbout Your Presenter\nKatie McManus is a 5th year PhD candidate at Temple University in the Spigler lab where her dissertation research focuses on the response of butterflies to human land use. She has a BS in Biology from University of Scranton. Before her PhD\, Katie researched the effects of climate change on plant physiology at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the impacts of agriculture on milkweed health for monarch conservation at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. \n \nAbout Nature Hour\nNature Hour is a lecture series presented by Lancaster Conservancy\, taking place on Thursdays throughout the winter. The one-hour virtual lectures\, which include a Q&A with the expert presenter\, cover a wide range of conservation\, environmental\, and nature-related topics impacting our community\, region\, and world to an audience of all ages of learners. \nTo find out about other events in the series please follow this link: Nature Hour Collection 2025/2026 \nTo see recordings of past Nature Hour lectures\, please visit the Conservancy’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LancasterConservancy \n\n\nThank you to our incredible Annual Sponsors for their generous support!

SUMMARY:The Rise of the Kleptocrats? Corruption in an Age of Disruption
DESCRIPTION:A conversation on the current state of global anti-corruption efforts.\n\n\nThroughout the world\, corruption props up dictators\, energizes criminal organizations\, diverts resources from economic development\, and corrodes public trust. Corruption contributes to leaving millions around the world insecure and impoverished. In today’s globalized world\, corruption crosses borders: billions of dollars flow illicitly through the international financial system\, bribes pass between countries\, and authoritarian regimes—from Russia to China to Iran—weaponize corruption to achieve their objectives. \nUS administrations for decades have paid attention to fighting the problem of global corruption. For example\, in 2021\, the Biden administration called fighting corruption a “Core United States National Security Interest” and developed a strategy to implement it. The second Trump administration has effectively dismantled many of the programs designed to fight corruption\, kleptocracy\, and bribery abroad. \nWhat is the current state of global anti-corruption efforts? How does today’s corruption affect global democracy? Do efforts to combat corruption—like sanctions—help\, or do they exacerbate problems? What steps should government and civil society take to push back on corrupt actors without the U.S. in the lead? \nPanelists \nPhilip Nichols is the Joseph Kolodny Professor of Social Responsibility in Business and a Professor of Legal Studies and Business Ethics at the University of Pennsylvania. His research and teaching generally deals with emerging economies\, but for the last thirty years he has specifically studied corruption\, and has worked with polities and organizations around the world to understand corruption and to develop strategies for its control. Professor Nichols has served as the President of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business\, as Co-Chair of the American Society of International Law’s Anti-Corruption Group and its Economic Law Interest Group\, and as Co-Chair of UNCEFACT/LG\, a United Nations experts committee on electronic commerce. \nCasey Michel is the director of the Combating Kleptocracy Program at the Human Rights Foundation. He has written multiple books on international corruption and foreign influence\, including American Kleptocracy and Foreign Agents. His third book\, United States of Oligarchy\, will be published by St. Martin’s Press in August 2026. His writing regularly appears in The New York Times\, Wall Street Journal\, Financial Times\, Foreign Affairs\, and many more outlets. He is currently sanctioned by the Russian regime for his work.. \nDani Schulkin is the Director of Democracy Initiatives at the law-and-policy journal Just Security\, based at NYU School of Law. She co-leads “When Guardrails Erode\,” an anti-corruption series and accompanying Anti-Corruption Tracker cataloging the systematic weakening of U.S. oversight and accountability mechanisms designed to police corruption.Schulkin previously served as Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice and as Senior Advisor to the Homeland Security Advisor at the White House National Security Council during the Biden Administration. Her previous roles include the White House Office of the Staff Secretary\, Administrative Conference of the United States (ACUS)\, the New York Attorney General’s Bureau of Internet and Technology\, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. \nModerator \nRichard Nephew returned from a public service leave of absence to the Center on Global Energy Policy and Faculty of the School of International and Public Affairs on 1 July 2024. \nDuring his most recent leave\, he was the inaugural U.S. Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption at the Department of State (2022-2024).
