DESCRIPTION:Join vocalist\, multi-instrumentalist\, and composer Amanda Ekery and her band for a songwriting workshop! This songwriting workshop will focus on using research and personal history to write music using techniques Ekery used to write Árabe\, her new album. Árabe is about Syrian and Mexican shared culture and history\, and covers everything from food\, gambling\, and evil eyes\, to immigration law\, biracial identity\, and the fraught relationship between immigrant entrepreneurship and workers’ rights. Participants will leave the workshop with a short song they have created\, along with tools and tips to continue songwriting. \nTickets are $30 and include complimentary admission to Amanda Ekery’s concert the following day. \nFAQs \nI have never written a song before\, can I come?\nYes! No previous musical experience is required. We will be focusing on lyric writing\, learning song forms\, and pairing your words to music together. \nI have musical experience\, is this for me?\nYes\, please bring your expertise to share with the group. If you play an instrument\, you are welcome to bring it to serve as your accompaniment and can play for others if interested as well. \nAge requirement?\nThis is for people of all ages! \nWhat do I need to bring?\nPlease bring something to write with and on\, this could be a journal or spiral notebook or loose paper to keep track of your ideas. Being willing to experiment\, to be vulnerable\, and to be respectful of the creative process for yourself and others is also needed.

SUMMARY:Library of Life
DESCRIPTION:The Library of Life Book Tour is designed to highlight both books and life resources as tools for healing and growth.\n\n\nThis event is free and open to the public. It will be held in Rooms 131/132 in the Heim Center. Registration is not required yet seating is limited. There will be an opportunity to purchase Ciara’s book after the presentation. \nRooted in my book Cliché Your Way Through Life REMIX\, each event blends storytelling\, therapy-inspired reflection\, and practical life tools. By connecting the metaphor of the library with real-life resources\, the program encourages participants to see both literature and community as guides for navigating challenges\, building resilience\, and creating lives they don’t want to escape. \nCiara Ward – Bio \nCiara Ward is a licensed clinical therapist\, conflict resolution specialist\, author\, and founder of Ci Notes\, a platform that provides tools for emotional healing\, life skills\, and authentic living. With over eight years of experience in hospitals\, courts\, schools\, and private practice\, she supports individuals and families through some of life’s toughest moments. \nKnown as the Librarian of Life\, Ciara blends her personal story with clinical expertise to help people heal the parts of themselves they were taught to hide. Her journey from trauma survivor to therapist\, mentor\, doula\, and educator is living proof that everything she needed\, she became. Ciara works with people of all ages\, cultures\, and backgrounds\, reminding us that therapy is not just for the couch. It is for the world.

SUMMARY:Philly Asian Futures
DESCRIPTION:Philly Asian Futures (PAF) is a community-engaged multi-disciplinary theatrical project that seeks to bring together local Pan-Asian artists and elders to dream about our community’s future in Philadelphia. Join us October 22nd – 26th for the theatrical presentation styled as a “Living Museum” at Asian Arts Initiative 3rd Floor\, featuring eight installation-style performances. These pieces were crafted through engaging with story circles with different Asian Diasporic Communities within Philadelphia\, including SEAMAAC\, Al-Bustan\, and the Chinatown Friends Senior Care Center; by attending and engaging these story circles\, our musicians\, writers\, dancers\, and actors seek to connect their own artistic and cultural backgrounds to the stories and experiences shared by our community elders. \nPlease note: our performance on Wednesday the 22nd will be a Preview performance!
