SUMMARY:The Land Alchemists - Elevated Stage Reading & Ritual* POC Affinity Space
DESCRIPTION:A consent-based-immersive performance where we journey with a laid off farm manager to heal global grief and remember our role in liberation\n\n\nThe Land Alchemists – Elevated Stage Reading & Ritual \nThe Land Alchemists follows Sunny\, a Black genderqueer farm manager who was laid off for their teach-in on Palestine and the Congo. They return to a childhood home where they hope to heal and figure out what’s next. They have the unconventional guidance from Shadow\, Spirit\, embodied aspects of Sunny\, as well as revolutionary ancestors like Patrice Lumumba\, Mahmoud Darwish\, and Katherine Dunham. Most importantly\, they have YOU\, the audience. You are casted as “The Light Orbs” to Sunny. Together\, through rituals of stillness and dance\, rest and release\, and even a foot soak\, you journey with Sunny through several portals to refuel our collective spirit for political resistance. \nThis is a fundraiser where all proceeds will be split between the Panzi Foundation of the Congo\, and Camp Breakers of Gaza\, Palestine. \n \n************************************************************************************************************* \n \nAs the container is anchored in ritual\, please honor how we are curating spaces that are culturally relevant for the audience: \nThis evening is a POC affinity space. Please join us this evening if you identify as a person of color. It will be an intimate experience of 40 people. \nSaturday\, November 1\, the space is open to the whole public\, regardless of how you identify. \nSince we will be in ritual together\, including a foot soak ceremony you are encouraged to wear white/light colored clothing\, wear comfortable attire\, and be prepared to remove your shoes.

When industry moved downtown\, the area was preserved to protect the water supply for the region\, producing an environment that became world renowned for its beauty and inspired the works of Walt Whitman\, John Greenleaf Whittier\, Edgar Allen Poe\, Christopher Morley\, and Currier and Ives. Forbidden Drive is so named for its prohibition of all motor vehicles. The Wissahickon Valley has a stillness untouched by time\, strange for one of the world’s larger cities\, and is surely Philadelphia’s best kept secret\, offering as appealing a walking route as is available for a hundred miles around. \n“The Wissahickon is of so remarkable a loveliness that\, were it flowing in England\, it would be the theme of every bard.” — Poe \n \n“Some of my happiest hours have been spent there\, some of my freest hours.” — Whitman \nOur journey begins at 30th Street Station\, with convenient connections to Septa\, NJ Transit\, Amtrak and Megabus. The walk ends in the tony main-street neighborhood of Chestnut Hill\, where we shall meet for eats and libations\, with two train stations available to carry us back to 30th Street. Easy gravel and paved terrain\, with very few road crossings after one leaves Center City. Two snack bars with nearby bathrooms assist along the way. \n \nThe half-marathon route is a shortest-distance trek along the Schuylkill and Wissahickon. The full route provides a broad and meandering treatment of all of the many highlights of sprawling Fairmount Park\, along with visits to the places of debate and worship of our founding fathers\, the site of the 1876 Centennial Exposition\, the world’s tallest masonry building\, dozens of works of public art\, and the nation’s most pioneering and pedestrian-friendly cemetery\, replete with graves of countless war heroes\, inventors\, tycoons and even local icons like Harry Kalas and Rocky’s Adrian Balboa. \n \nMARATHON WALK Highlights\n\nUniversity of Pennsylvania\nSchuylkill Banks Boardwalk\nRittenhouse Square\nWashington Square\nIndependence Hall\nCarpenters Hall\nSpruce Street Harbor Park\nPenns Landing\nChrist Church\nCity Hall\nLogan Circle\nBen Franklin Parkway\nArt Museum steps\nFairmount Waterworks\nBoathouse Row\nKelly Drive\nMemorial Hall\nJapanese House and Garden\nBelmont Plateau\nStrawberry Mansion Bridge\nLaurel Hill Cemetery\nFalls Bridge\nWissahickon Creek\nBattle of Germantown\nForbidden Drive\nValley Green Inn\nMagarge Dam\nCovered bridge\nChestnut Hill\n\nHALF-MARATHON Highlights\n\nFairmount Waterworks\nBoathouse Row\nKelly Drive\nFalls Bridge\nWissahickon Creek\nBattle of Germantown\nForbidden Drive\nValley Green Inn\nMagarge Dam\nCovered bridge\nChestnut Hill\n\n \nPartners: \nThe East Coast Greenway Alliance is a non-profit organization developing a public multi-use 3\,000 mile trail from Canada to Key West through New Jersey and New York. Donations and memberships help make this dream trail a reality. \nCircuit Trails is 800 miles of interconnected trails in Greater Philadelphia in the making\, already one of America’s largest trail networks. Once connected\, the Circuit Trails will be one of the nation’s premier urban trail networks and it will provide multiple benefits to neighborhoods\, communities and the region as a whole. \nMore about FreeWalkers: \nOur calendar of walks and hikes | About FreeWalkers | Walker stories | Walking tips \nNew Jersey walks | Pennsylvania walks | New York City walks \n \n \n–

SUMMARY:Nature as Healer: A Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:“The people cannot be healed until the land is healed. The land cannot be healed until the people are healed by the land.” – Martin Prechtel  \n  Nature can be a great healer for the heartaches we all experience along our journey. Join Naila Francis\, founder of This Hallowed Wilderness\, for a writing workshop to explore the restorative power of nature.   \n Together\, we will walk through the shady woods and sunny meadows of Gwynedd Preserve\, listening to our inner voices\, on this inspiring nature immersion that also invites us into reciprocal relationship with the land and our more-than-human kin.    \n Bring a notebook and a writing instrument for this workshop. (We will also have some available.)    \n You will be invited to share whatever you wish in a “sacred circle\,” but this is not required. The intent of this event is to bring people together\, whatever their losses and struggles\, and to connect with others and the natural world at their own comfort level.   \n Our stroll through the woods will be silent\, followed by some meditative time in the Betz Memorial Garden\, and quiet reflection.   \n Please save the rain date in the event of inclement weather: Sunday\, November 2\, 1:00 – 3:00 PM.   \n About our instructor: Naila is a grief coach and death midwife who companions people on their grief journey through multiple spaces and practices\, including meditations in nature and the written word.

SUMMARY:The Land Alchemists - Elevated Stage Reading & Ritual
DESCRIPTION:The Land Alchemists follows Sunny\, a Black genderqueer farm manager who was laid off for their teach-in on Palestine and the Congo. \nSince we will be in ritual together\, including a foot soak ceremony you are encouraged to wear white/light colored clothing\, wear comfortable attire\, and be prepared to remove your shoes.
