SUMMARY:Free art show-Absurd Spectaculars
DESCRIPTION:The artists in this wide embrace seek to manifest a one-of-a-kind fantastical world\, percolating in metaphors by means of commingling artistic disciplines and subjects. These detractors of traditional norms and expectations wrote their own rules in an unapologetic way amidst a culture enamored with aesthetics. Because the roots of such visionaries is often steeped in the underground culture there is always a core of rebellion and being provocative shining thorough. The obscure messages are oft based on dreams and the unconscious\, on renegade concepts and provocative symbolism. At times imagery can be poking fun at the conventional matters of any kind\, using humor and sarcasm as its strongest device. Compositions are filled with abstract imagery and dreamy cartoon characters painted and drawn with impressive technical ability that candidly blurs the line between low and high art. We hope you will come join us in this journey of intrigue.\nStop in the gallery 5 days a week to view and add to your collection. All works are also available for sale online through our site www.blackmothgallery.com. You will not want to miss out on experiencing these one of a kind works in person. \nArtists Featured Work:\nWes Benscoter\nMichael Camarra\nWilly Cutlip\nCzr-Prz\nHengone\nGreg Hergert\nBriana Hertzog\nHanna Jaeun\nJoKa\nJesso Lange\nGrelin Machin\nNoseGo\nBruce Parker\nJohn Rego\nDebbie Rich\nPaul Vavarone\nAlyssa Young

SUMMARY:Portrait Photography Workshop with Donald E. Camp
DESCRIPTION:Donald E. Camp joins us at Maja Park to lead attendees through a portrait photography workshop.\n\n\nDonald E. Camp joins us at Maja Park to lead attendees through a portrait photography workshop. Using thermal printing cameras\, Donald will lead guests through the stages of portrait photography\, and guests will get to take their work home with them. Audience members should plan to arrive at 5:30 and stay for the entirety of the workshop\, as Donald will be leading guests through a step by step process. \n \nDonald E. Camp is one of the photographers featured in the InLiquid Exhibition\, Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection. On view from August 8th – September 27th at the InLiquid Gallery at 1400 N American St. Learn more here. \n \nAbout the Exhibition: \nTwenty years ago\, New Orleans underestimated the impact that Hurricane Katrina would have. Once Katrina hit land\, aging infrastructure failed\, and an entire city was thrown into an unimaginable hellscape of flooding waters and crumbling humanity. The United States Government proved institutional neglect and systemic inequalities were\, and are still\, very much a part of the American way of life – especially for people of color. Donald E. Camp and Clarence Williams\, two acclaimed Black photojournalists with Philly roots\, who experienced the devastation first-hand\, alongside poet and spoken word artist\, Ursula Rucker\, reflect on that history in Revelations: An Evolution of Introspection. The exhibition curated by accomplished artist/photographer and cultural activist Lonnie Graham recounts\, photographically and poetically\, the experiences of those who endured Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.  \n \nRevelations: An Evolution of Introspection includes a haunting series of images captured by Clarence Williams in the days and weeks immediately following Hurricane Katrina’s landfall and the subsequent failure of levees. His photos highlight the sheer chaos of the time for those seeking shelter among the bodies of the deceased who were abandoned. In a more subtle approach\, Donald E. Camp uses mud washed inland from the event for his non-traditional photographic techniques\, using the residue of the disaster to create his photographic portraits. Williams’ and Camp’s different approaches illustrate how artists understand and contextualize the world around them to communicate their ideas. Finally\, Ursula Rucker lends her words in a series of poems\, originally published in her and Clarence Williams’ book “Drown the Devil\,” to convey the anguish of those who experienced Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. \n \n——- \nThis workshop is part of the Parkway to Park Festival. SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesdays in West Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a meditative and reflective program in the greenspace of West Fairmount Park!\n\nDATE\nWednesday\, August 27 \n\n\n\nTIME\n6:30 pm – 8:00 pm \n\n\n\nLOCATION\nParkside Edge \nParkside Avenue & W Memorial Hall Dr\nPhiladelphia PA 19131 \n\n\n\nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and Coach Shay of Inner Sanctuary Wellness on the last Wednesday of every month from 6:30–8 PM* for a wellness program set in the beautiful greenspace of West Fairmount Park. \nCoach Shay will blend together restorative yoga and sound healing practices\, allowing for gentle movement and meditation throughout. Participants will leave each program feeling rejuvenated and grounded. \n*Wellness Wednesdays are May-September. (Please note\, September’s program is from 5:45-7:15 PM to account for an earlier sunset.) \nABOUT COACH SHAY: Coach Shay is a fierce self-care/mental health advocate who educates and inspires others on best practices for living an easeful\, more balanced life. After years of working in high-demand corporate roles\, being deprived of rest and experiencing burnout\, she found healing and restoration in practicing yoga and mindfulness. Her journey ignited a passion to help others and in addition to teaching yoga\, she uses her gifts as a sound practitioner and holistic health coach as tools to help others destress and connect with their bodies and breath to find deep rest and healing. Her desire is to help all beings discover balance and vitality\, and as the founder of Inner Sanctuary Wellness\, she mindfully curates experiences and services that allow rest and offer rejuvenation for the mind\, body\, and soul. You can learn more about her work on Instagram at @coachshay2020. \nTICKETS: Free**\, donations appreciated. Registration is required. \n**We are proud to be able to offer these events for free. However\, there is limited capacity for the event. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows can take away tickets from others. We ask that you be mindful of this and please only register if you plan to attend. \n\n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO: \n\nWe will meet at Parkside Edge\, located along Parkside Avenue in between East and West Memorial Drive. It shows up as ‘Parkside Park’ in most navigation apps.\nWe will walk from Parkside Edge to the program location – roughly a 1/4-mile walk on flat sidewalks.\nClasses will take place in a grassy field.\nPlease bring your own yoga mat.\nWe recommend you bring something to place under your yoga mat\, such as a towel\, to keep it protected from “the elements” (grassy surface\, sometimes damp after recent rain\, etc.).\nAn eye mask/pillow is optional but nice to have for the sound bath portion.\nPlease note that this program is gentle\, restorative\, and slow\, focusing on stillness and relaxation. It may not be a perfect fit for those looking for more of a high-impact yoga class.\nAppropriate for adults and mature adolescents (minors must be ticketed and accompanied by a guardian).\nThis event is held entirely outside so please dress according to weather conditions.\nBring your water (drinking water is not available in the park).\nUnfortunately\, there are no bathrooms nearby so please plan accordingly.\nBring sunscreen and bug spray.\nSpace is limited in each program and registration is required. If you cannot attend an event\, please show courtesy to fellow parkgoers and try to cancel your registration with advance notice so that someone else can participate. Repeat no-shows may not be able to register for future free events.\nImportant pre-event information and any event updates are sent out via email. Please make sure the email address entered is correct and that you check it before coming out to the event.\n\n\nPARKING/GETTING THERE: Parkside Edge is located along Parkside Avenue\, between East and West Memorial Drive.
